After a bit of dissapointing visit to Excalibur in October, I will be back in Vegas in Januari/February. Thinking about Monte Carlo now to stay. Any thoughts? It looked nice when I was there, and the rates seems fair.
    Thanks for all comments!

It's better than Excalibur haha. It's a little outdated and dingy. But it's fine if you get a great deal. But first I would check MGM and Mandalay and see if you can get a deal there.

It's saving grace right now is the tram to CityCenter otherwise it is a pretty boring property. Certainly wouldn't be my first choice unless it was extremely cheap.

Nothing wrong with Monte Carlo at all. Just your basic place to stay. Great location with several casinos in walking distance. Usually the best table limits on that end of the strip. We stayed there last month and every day from noon to early evening they had 5 dollar blackjack and craps.

I've never stayed there, but I enjoy playing there. Good games with low minimums = me happy.

I think it gets a bad rap from some. I'd certainly rather stay there than somewhere like Ballys or the Flamingo, which so many people seem to enjoy on these boards.

I think Monte Carlo can be a good bargain. The rooms are comfortable and I love the location. I think you'll be happy there after Excalibur.

I stayed at MC about 5 times over the last several years, it's fine. Decent rooms, good table limits and game selection, food court, and decent variety of restaurants. I like the smaller casino size and accessibility to both the south and mid strip properties. Its not extravagant like Bellagio or Cosmo but its a step up from Luxor and Excalibur. The elevators are on the same end of the property as the tram so Aria and Bellagio are very easy to get to same for NYNY and MGM just outside the front door. The Downside is they are stickers about the resort fee even if your staying on a comped offer.

As most know on here I'm a huge Monte Carlo fan. I do stay at Hotel32 (top floor of Monte Carlo) but I do like the casino. It is not too big and and easy to navigate. Food court is good for a quick bite, I do find myself going to other locations for nice meals as Andre's and Brand is the only two nicer places to eat at Monte Carlo. I don't care for Brand so I go other places for steak. I however like the Pub with its great beer selection and food choices.

It is a clean comfortable hotel/casino with a great location and has the tram at the back of the hotel for easy access going north. Monte Carlo is my home base and has been for years.

Haven't stayed there. Does anyone find their rooms drab/boring? I like a splash of color.

I have to agree with the assesments. I miss their brewpub which was very nice.( When they had their own beers).

It's not a particularly colorful place. If that's important to you, look somewhere else.

    I still like their brewpub.

MC is an okay place. The rooms are not the best. The casino is descent. The location is great, you are near the center of the strip and next door to a CVS.

I would stay else where such as Mandalay Bay, MGM, or Mirage if you want somewhere nice that is not too costly. If there is a good deal at MC, not a bad decision to stay there.

The special hamachi (Hot Cha Cha Hamachi?) roll at Dragon Noodle is amazing, and I enjoyed the other specialty rolls as well. The sashimi was pretty good. The rest of the menu is average.

Well in comparison to Excalibur, you should be very pleased...
It's been a while since I stayed there, but I thought it was a pleasant stay. Nice location, the casino, while not extremely exciting was comfortable. In fact that would be the best overall description. Not exciting, but comfortable. I think it's a good value.
I do enjoy the Pub. Good food and drinks.

I'll be staying there for the first time over NYE. Main reason is because I want to stay at as many Strip resorts as possible so it's next on my Been There Done That list.
I like the casino. It's one of those places you say oh I'll just stop in for an hour and end up staying much longer. There was a thread about bathrooms a while back and
I'm pretty sure this will be the first place I've stayed on the strip that has a Tub/Shower combo in the regular non Hotel 32 rooms - sort of like at a Holiday Inn correct?
I'm not really looking forward to that but once again it's a bucket list thing.

If you are staying their Deluxe or Deluxe High Floor rooms yes you will get the Tub/Shower combo. If you stay in the non-Hotel32, Spa Suite, Monaco Suite or Diamond Suite you will have a separate Tub & Shower and various other upgraded amenities (i.e. 1.5 bathrooms, etc.).

This isn't true. The Studio Room, which is the lowest end of the Hotel 32 rooms, has a shower, no tub. That's the reason I'm not going back to it -- my wife likes a tub.

Yes you are correct, I was only addressing the non-Hotel32 rooms.

My mistake -- I think I misread what you were saying.

I do agree with you on dragon noodle, too. Stupid name for a restaurant, but the food was good.
