How do slot tournaments at Orleans work?

I keep getting mailers. 3 nights free is tempting. But, how do these things work? Are you expected to spend a fortune during the tournament? Are they worth signing up for?

Can't speak to the Orleans specifically, but I spent the entire summer of 2013 heading to Vegas every other week for a slot tournament. That kind of frequency means I didn't gamble a lot each trip, but I'm still getting invites and free room offers on a regular basis.

The whole thing is very simple: you arrive, check in with the registration desk and get your playing times. Then you show up at those times, they assign you a machine, and you mash a button real fast for 10 minutes. After 2 or 3 sessions, they add up everybody's points and dole out the prizes.

We found them a wonderful way to spend the summer. YMMV.

    Hey Now!!!!

I did one this past summer. They had them set up in front of the Irish Pub. The one I was in was a separate tourney every day, they posted results each day. If you earned free slot play, it was automatically added to your card. If you won cash, you had to go by and pick it up. I didn't win either! As far as play, My wife-Sweet Ti- and I both play on my card so we put lots of points on my card during the tourney days.

How much time did it take out of your trip? My fear is that I accept the deal and then we don't have time to do anything else because we have to jump through hoops.

Do they expect you to drop a certain amount each day in their casino?

There are no expectations for your level of play. The process is pretty simple and most of the time you play for two 15mns periods in back to back days. It's pretty mindless but, you might get lucky and win something.

We can get rooms comped there anyway so the entry fee for the tournament isn't really worth it for us. (I think typically you pay $99 for entry to the tournament plus three nights) If you have a companion, there is another fee of about $50 and it is unlikely you will make that back so you are spending $50 for 30mns worth of play. They used to offer a decent level of refreshments...not that has been cut back.

All in all, it's a fun diversion and we enjoy the Orleans although we like the Gold Coast much better.

    Good luck.

I believe the Op is referring to the free tournaments that the Orleans have every few months, the next one being January 27-29. The invitations do include three free nights. There will be three 15 minute sessions, the first two on January 28 and the third on January 29.

The invitation is normally based on your previous play. If you accept and hardly have any action besides the tournament, you probably will not get invited again. I have not participated in the Orleans tournament, but have been receiving the invitations. I did a few at the downtown Boyd casinos.

I drew the 9:30 am slot, so it only took half an hour tops. I agree with the other posters as to expected play. They probably don't expect that much. But the O is my home base casino, and being an East Coaster, I only have one trip per year to keep my status, so I tend to hit it hard.

Yea, I just did one at Venetian. That's pretty much it. The ploy is, the timing, needing to be there twice in a day, keeps you on the property spending money. It's fun, but it's pretty pointless. But if the free rooms are worth it to you then go for it! But if you don't really wanna spend time at the Orleans or stay there, then don't do it.

I just gambled my normal amount on the side. You aren't playing with "real" money during the slot tournament if that's what you are asking. It's fake machines set up with a timer and you accumulate points.
