I hope you can help me with this one:

I'm a smoker and like to be able to open a window in the hotel room, to get some fresh air in and the smoke out. But not at every hotel it is possible to open a window in your room. For example at Flamingo the windows in the rooms are shut and there is no way to open them, not even an inch. On the floors where the smoking rooms are, everything smells of heavy smoke, all the way from the rooms to the elevators. At Monte Carlo you can open the window a few inch, just enough to keep the room fresh. I'm happy with that. At the former Imperial Palace you even had a private balcony with your room. That was just perfect!

So, from the following hotels, would you be able to tell me if you can open a window in the room? I don't mean the suites or rooms with terras etc, but the lowest price range rooms:

    Planet Hollywood
    Paris
    NYNY
    Bellagio
    Caesars Palace
    The Mirage
    MGM
    Bally's

    Thank you!

    Mirage and NYNY

The windows at Mirage and NYNY both open up just enough to let a little fresh air in. Neither opens far enough to facilitate having a cigarette, in my opinion.

Planet Hollywood and MGM you cannot open the window. There is a metal plate you can slide that allows some outside air in because you can hear the wind when open plus there is a warning to keep shut at certain times to avoid a problem with moths. The Cromwell has a small balcony but I'm not sure you can open the window. It looks like you can but I didn't try two weeks ago.

I always figured it was to keep the jumpers in the room.

NYNY and MGM are also no. I didn't get close enough to determine if the rooms had the two vents there, but as others have said, it's not enough for fresh air after a smoke.

Plus, I'm pretty sure most, if not all, of the MGM properties have done away with smoking rooms, or are in the process of phasing them out.

The Bellagio doesnt have windows that open, but at the room that I stayed it had a ventilation function, where you push a slide and outside air comes in.

plenty places to jump or just get a hotel with a balcony

now I was at harrahs and the windows opened inward, not far but it was enough that I could get through it if I wanted

I think that must be about the same as at MC then. There I can stick my hand (and arm I think?) out of the window and at least the cigarette smoke can get out of the room and my clothes.

I think you're too late for MGM hotels as they've gone non-smoking already. Unless you're planning on smoking out of a window in a non-smoking room.

I was already afraid of that. I knew it would be coming one day and of course I understand why. But I am a bit sad, because for me it is one of the "charmes" of sin city.

So I wonder, do they give the former smoking rooms to non-smokers now?

I haven't got a clue but if I had to guess, they are/will be renovating them and turn them into normal non-smoking rooms.

Paris does have the sliders on the bottom of the windows that allow air in. Not much air, but some.

It's not on your list but the room we had at Harrah's in January had a window that opened. I was pretty surprised it opened as wide as it did,

This is why I stay downtown now. Smoking rooms and windows that open at most hotels.
I do like the sound of these wide opening windows at Harrahs. May have to do a comp night reccy...

Thanks again all for your tips and info!

I have always stayed around the center Strip, because that's where I mostly hang out at night and then I can just walk back to my hotel alone. And as I'm traveling from Amsterdam, I usually stay for a longer period. That's also a reason for staying on the Strip, because I wouldn't want to be stuck at a remote resort or even Downtown for the entire trip.

I do really love the Downtown area though and will at least go there ones or twice every trip. But now with all the changes again on the Strip (fast rising resort fees and non-smoking policy etc), I really consider to stay Downtown in the future. Or maybe just part of the trip, I don't know.

So if MGM properties have gone non-smoking already, does anyone know when CET will follow? I hope I can still do one more trip staying on the Strip, before the non-smoking policy hits CET.

    Thanks again!

Ex Caliber still has the 28th floor as smoking. Don't know if the windows open, didn't try it. They might slide for an inch maybe.
