This may be a stupid thread, but I'm bored, so here goes:

Do you use and/or take home with you the complimentary items left in your hotel room - shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap, note pads, pens, etc.?

We often take the pen and note paper home. It makes us think of our great Vegas trips every time we write the grocery list.

We also often take the shampoo, conditioner and lotion home. We belong to a club that packs care packages for US troops overseas and these are highly prized items for those.

    Any other items?

When I was a kid I used to take a key card for every hotel I stayed in. Other than that, the only thing I take is a few Keurig K-Cups at my local casino.

We do the same thing, without fail.

We usually end up with an excess of the little shampoo bottles and soap and will regularly give them to out church's homeless ministry.

Our children get the little bars of soap in their stockings at Christmas in lieu of pieces of coal, as well. :wink2:

Love the scratchpads. Our business associates quite giving our scratchpads some years ago, so I treasure every one of them.

Now, if only they'd supply towels in colors that matched our bathroom's decor!

All these items cost money. If enough people start taking more than they need, the next thing you will see is a toiletries fee added to your bill.

I always take the laundry bag and shoe bags from Cosmo, when I stay there. I just always assumed I could take them.

What if the little bottles are partially used? They aren't going to leave them for the next customer and will likely throw them out. I would imagine some hotels replace them regardless because who knows what a previous guest can slip into the bottle for the next unsuspecting guest. Not a contingency one probably thinks about. I have never understood why people speak out against taking the little mini bottles of shampoo. I consider that an amenity of my $200/night room charge at Cosmo.

Lately, I’ve started taking the shaving cream when I stay in a Wynn Tower room. Am I the only one who can never figure out when a can of shaving cream is about finished? And it always seems to run out on a Monday when I haven’t shaved all weekend. Now I have a backup plan!

I’ll usually grab a pen as well, along with all the newspapers that have been delivered to my room during my stay and do the crosswords on the way home.

OK. This is getting a little more interesting. I had no idea anyone would be against taking complimentary consumables like shampoo and note paper.

Now there are lots of items I didn't think about that may or may not be complimentary for us to take, but people do - towels, etc.

Are the slippers considered takable or not? What about robes? What else?

I, also, love to have some of the items at home to remind me of the great trips we've taken to Vegas. I understand that these items cost money, but with an average resort fee of $25 per/day plus tax for a lot of services that I don't utilize, I don't think it's being inappropriate.

Slippers are definitely takeable...I'm not going to be wearing you guy's old slippers...lol! Robes, I always thought they would charge you. Tell me I am wrong about the robes and I will be sure to take them with me next time...lol.

We have kept a few of these from some hotels that we stay at often because we have found regularly enough that there isn't one in the room when we get there, housekeeping doesn't have any extra on their cart for some reason and we prefer to leave it on our door during our entire stay. We don't keep them as souvenirs, though.

As a joke, I often fill out hotel comment/survey cards with the following.....

Your towels are too big and thick, I can't close my suitcase!

That was you!?! Thanks for the early wake-up from housekeeping. :nono:

I will admit that a thousand years ago I fell in love with the soap at TI. I mean LOVE!!! I would hoard it like it was made from gold bars or something. They were good soaps.

Pens and notepaper are pretty much all I take these days and I love the reminder of Vegas when I use them. I used to take the shampoos etc. but since we do carry on luggage only, it's not worth the hassle of bagging them up and presenting at security.

I'm reminded of a story I read about a guy who flew to Vancouver and stayed in a high priced hotel before picking up his cheque after winning 10 million from the lottery. When they asked him just how his life would change, he replied the only thing he'd do differently is leave all the soaps and shampoos behind! It's almost compulsive to take them.

At the Mansion they have these little white linen placemats embroidered with the Mansion logo that they put under your toothbrush and stuff on the bathroom counter. I've taken a couple of these and use them to put stuff on in my closet at home.

I always take note paper and pens. I like having the pens (I have over 200 Las Vegas pens in my jar) and can always use some note paper. Some of the pens (the metal ones from Venetian, the fancy ones from Wynn, the big ones from Palazzo) are pretty nice, most are just basic "Bic" pens.

For the bathroom stuff (shampoo, soap, conditioner, moisturizer) I used to bring that stuff home and would give it to our nieces with some excess ending up in our bathroom... but got to where we just wound up having so much of the stuff that we stopped taking it - we haven't stayed at Luxor since November 2007 and I still have about a dozen bottles of their shampoo in the bathroom cupboard...

We don't take anything like bathrobes, slippers, towels, etc... just the consumable stuff.
