So I will be coming to Vegas for my birthday next week. My plan is to actually go see the Hoover Dam on Monday the 10th. I've been to Vegas many times but have never seen the Hoover Dam in all my trips and decided I'll knock it off the bucket list, unless I end up in some 13 hour poker tournament which I promised I wouldn't do this trip even though the WSOP is going on.

Anyway I was wondering are there any must see's on the way to or back from the Dam. I have a rental car so I plan to drive and not do a bus tour. So are there are cool casino's or really anything of interest I should see? Or even a must eat?

Last year was the first time I actually seen the Freemont Light Show. Only had been downtown 2 times before staying down there last year. Always playing poker at Binion's before when the shows were going on. So I thought I should knock off the Hoover Dam this trip since I promised myself no day long poker tournaments.

    Thanks for the help.

On the way to the Dam you'll pass Lake Mead.

If you are going by way of Boulder Highway you can stop at the oldest casino in Nevada, the Railroad Pass www.railroadpass.com. There is a small museum area in the casino. It is part of the MGM Resorts family.

While at the dam make it a point to go up on the new bridge. The views are spectacular!

Besides the dam, drive up to the new bridge. Park your car on the NV side and get out and walk. There is a pedestrian walkway. Here is what the view looks like from up there:

Stop in the town of Boulder, neat little area, some cool little cafes, breweries, etc.

Thanks I will stop at pub for sure. What about the Haciemda casino, a friend said I should stop by there too. Sometimes his advice isn't the best but he lived in Vegas so I always ask him about stuff.

    Rent a Car

If you want to really take in the Dam. Take your own car. Last trip, finally talked Trophywyfe into the dam tour. Using a bus service, we were shuffled so quick through dam, felt ripped off. A stop at RRPass is a must for historical purposes and a little gambling. AVOID the buffet. "think cousin Eddie w/ a sack"
