I looked at Budget, Dollar, and Hertz for August 27-31.
    Rates are sky high!

Same 4 days at May, and barely $100

    What's up????

Couple big conventions in August. Have you tried Costco?

According to LVA, there is only 1 convention, and it leaves on the 27th.

It's not just the end of August. We are going August 7-11 and the rates are over $200! First time we will not be renting a car in Vegas in a long, long time. Don't see any big conventions either, so have no idea why they are so high.

Keep checking back daily and rebook if you find a lower rate. Rates fluctuate regularly so best to check daily or sometimes even a couple times a day for lower rates. Look at sites like Costco and carrentalsavers.com to see if prices go down. Dollar also has a "city special" where you can click to see if they have lower rates for your city.

You are only a few months away, hopefully prices will drop but lately I find prices to be high and will drop for a few days a month or two before your trip but then the prices will go back up very quickly so best to check regularly.

MAGIC is mid-month. Close to 100,000 attendees. There are shows appurtenant to that, too. Lotsa attendees come in early or leave late when it's a mid-week several-day show. And isn't there some UFC expo early-mid August?

We have found that the rates have skyrocketed in the last two years no matter what coupons or discounts we use. The only moderate prices we've found (for the major companies) are at off airport locations like Budget on W Tropicana and that's who we've been renting from lately. Doesn't seem to matter when we book. I check several times a day and it doesn't seem to make any difference. You'd think that the rental facility would have been paid off by now with the high fees they're charging.

Keep looking for codes. There is a chance things could improve as it's still kinda early. That being said, I've almost never gotten good quotes from Budget or Hertz. Expand your parameters.

I have been watching for Aug 14-17 for a few months. It went from over $200 down to $190 and now back up again. I will keep watching, and go car less for the first time in 10 years if it doesn't go down below $100.

You may want to take an uber to an offsite location, Budget on Trop with USAA is under $100...

I've always got the best rates somewhere around a month to two weeks out. I just keep rebooking whenever I see a lower price.
