OK, I admit I wouldn't know what a hipster was if they bumped into me. I did look it up in Urban Dictionary and still am not sure.:confused2:

Anyway, hipsters seem to draw a lot of dislike on this board, so I thought some of you might get a laugh, or a groan, out of this.

We were staying at Suncoast and needed to walk to Target, which is about a mile away. One of the stores we passed on Rampart was named Hipster Emporium. I'd say it was about the size of a Walgreen's.

As far as I can tell, a Hipster is:

Anyone younger and wealthier than the person complaining about them.

Ha ha. I remember seeing that place while on the WAX over to Suncoast in November. I got a chuckle out of it.

Everyone hates hipsters. Even hipsters hate hipsters because they're too deluded to believe that they're hipsters as well. Or maybe they just love the irony of hating themselves. If there's one thing hipsters love its manufactured irony.

    Not even close.

Joe - It's tough to know what a hipster is anymore, because everything/everyone is being branded as such. The stereotypical male hipster sports skinny jeans, buddy holly glasses, odd facial hair, a silly hat, and accessories (bowtie, suspenders, scarf). Some would argue that it's more of an attitude: listening to independent music, a fetish for the obscure, and a sometimes ironic appreciation for mainstream things.

Too much info, but I find it funny PBR is making a resurgence with these people.

PBR is what we drank in the 60s when we were underage. And Red White & Blue.

The bar my brother and I owned was one block from the Pabst Brewery and headquarters here in Milwaukee. Both long gone but they are trying to turn the old brewery buildings into retail and residential.

I've been called out as a hipster for drinking PBR. Whatever. I grew up in the midwest and it was a cheap buzz when I was poor.

    :haha: You guys are bad.

I think the aspect of the hipsters that they won't identify themselves as hipsters would make a place called "Hipster Emporium" a bad business plan. I didn't call this place Degenerate Gamblers, Incorporated. :wink2:

That's because they aren't targeting actual hipsters, they're targeting people out in the middle of nowhere who think hipsters must be cool. Or maybe they are targeting hipsters. Because hipsters might find it ironic to shop at a store called Hipster Emporium. And remember, hipsters love irony.

For all the real urbanites tired of these underemployed and unkempt man-babies moving to their cities from the exurbs and raping the culture this site offers some good venting (and laughs): http://diehipster.wordpress.com/

Up here we have folks who roll in kinda Thursday afternoon and kick around being self-important through mid-Sunday. We just laugh and call 'em "LAs."

Classic Joe!!! I grew up in Milwaukee and in high school when me and my buddies were short on cash we'd pool all our change and get a case of Red White & Blue for about seven or eight bucks. PBR, Schlitz, Blatz, Old Milwaukee and Old Style were also good for the el cheapo high school budget.

    :peace:

Schiltz brand, now owned by Pabst, has supposedly gone back to their old brewing process and the beer is pretty good.

History: Back in the day, Schiltz was the #1 brewer in the country, then the owner, Bob Uihlien switched to a faster aging process. and tweaked the ingredients. Make beer faster, make more money, but it killed the flavor and started Schiltz on a downward slide they never recovered from.

Just a little trivia for the hipsters. :wink2:
