OK folks….here’s the deal. My wife and I are headed to Vegas for 5 nights in October for our 10th anniversary. We’ve already made our flight reservations (took advantage of the Southwest fall sale), but have yet to make our hotel reservations. We’ve been to Vegas twice in the past two years and have stayed at Paris both times. We both enjoy the laid back atmosphere of the Paris and would prefer to stay there again if the price is right.

Here’s where the dilemma comes in. I am Platinum with Total Rewards and have just over 50,000 rewards credits from the Great Race promotion last year. Being our 10th anniversary, I would like to use these points for nice meals and spa visits. Using them up on room rates would limit the amount of this kind of stuff we could do. Currently, the rates offered by the Paris using my Total Rewards account would be about $80/night, which would use up most of these points. However, a stay at Bally’s would only be $90.00 total (one night at $90 and the other 4 comped). This would be either a South Tower room or a North Tower Pet Stay (do you think this could be switched to non-Pet Stay?). From what I’ve read, the North Tower rooms are fairly nice. However, I’ve been in the Bally’s casino several times and haven’t been overly impressed. How is Bally’s as a whole? I know the 2 hotels are connected, but how easy would it be to get from the elevators at Bally’s to the coffee shops, etc. in the Paris? My wife loved the cobblestone walkways in the Paris and just being able to go down in the morning for a coffee at one of the shops.

What do you folks think? Being our 10th anniversary, we definitely don’t want to stay in a trashy hotel. We’re comfortable in the Paris and are happy with that hotel; it’s just that we’d like to make better use of our Rewards Credits. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks,
    Rob

I stayed at Ballys on my last trip, really enjoyed the whole stay. We stayed in the North Tower and it was a breeze to get to Paris, it was just like staying at Paris other than we slept at Ballys.

I highly recommend Ballys and one of the reasons is because of the connection to Paris and ease of getting around.

Paris is a notch above Bally's as far as being nicer.

I prefer Paris. But, IIRC there isn’t a huge difference in room quality between the two. And it is an easy and quick walk between the two casinos. So, if it were me, I’d rather spend that money on a nice dinner than on a slightly nicer room and shorter walk back to the room.

I think that Ballys for close to free is better than using up your points at Paris. The biggest difference to me is the actual casino vibe, I like Paris better but has been stated it's not much of a walk to Paris for breakfast or your late night drink.

Ass far as Pet Stay rooms go just say that you are very allergic.

If it was me, I'd take the $90.00 Bally's room, ask for a complimentary upgrade to the north tower, and use the TR credits for the nice meals and spa.

I appreciate all of the insight....I knew this would be the right place to pose our question! It's sounding like the consenus is that Paris is nicer (which I knew), but the pros of saving over $300 and staying at Ballys outweigh any cons of the property itself.

In terms of actually making the reservation, do you guys think it would be better to reserve the South Tower room and ask for an upgrade to a North Tower room upon arrival, or reserve the North Tower pet room and just hope to be switched to a regular? We definitely want to be in the North Tower, but don't want to take the risk of our room smelling like a dog!

    Thanks......

I would just book the South Tower room and politely ask for a North Tower room at check-in. The odds of being upgraded are very good and if somehow they're completely full and can't move you, I'd prefer the fountain views of the South Tower to the potential dog stink of a Pet Stay room as a fallback.

But, of course as johnvic pointed out, if you book the Pet Stay North Tower room and insist that you have a serious pet dander allergy, they wouldn't dare put you in a Pet Stay room, but would likely keep you in the North Tower.

If the North Tower is important, just reserve the Pet Stay room, I had no problem upgrading upon check in to a N Tower mini suite for $20, obviously there are no guarantees. Ask the clerk if a room on the Platinum floori is available, they are nice rooms.

    Macfisto -

Have you checked your offers online? I believe they have an offer for 5 nights right now.

I'd hate to see you use your reward credits for a room. Stay at Bally's, let the clerk know it's your anniversary and maybe she/he will upgrade you!

Thanks captainron. Could you give me a little info on the Platinum floor? Is this only for people who are Platinum or better with TR? Is it a suite-only floor?

    Thanks....

I am not Platinum, just Gold, I stayed in April 4 nights COMP, at check in I put a $20 on the table and asked if she had anything amazing for me and my friends, my buddy was not COMP and paying rack rate for his room. She searched around and said I will put you in a mini-suite on the platinum floor, its also a totally no smoking floor. I think it was 22 or 24 floor?? We really liked the rooms, they were big rooms and had a nice view. I will attatch a couple more pics.

Just an FYI, pet rooms don't stink. They are as clean, if not more clean than a standard room. In most cases, there is an added cost to the room that is used for deep cleaning on a more regular basis.

My last 2 visits to Vegas were Ballys then Paris. At check in I was already bumped up to the North tower. My room at Ballys was larger than the one I had at Paris but I loved them both. I wouldn't hesitate to stay at Ballys again.

when you look on line make sure you put both you and your wifes TR number in this can make a difference on what is offered to you. My card has minimum use but every so often I can get a free room (did this with friends in January)

    Thanks.......

did you check your offers? Being a platinum member you shouldnt have to use any of your points and still get your room comped at Paris. Just curious because I was able to get a red room comped in october(plat member) under "my offers", a basic room just logging in and not using any offer codes. Probably a different week but I booked when SW had their sale also. Or call the casino host and tell them it's your anniversary and see what they can do...

I wouldd take Bally's over Paris everytime if I saved that much money. As a Platinum member you are almost certain to get an upgrade to the North Tower. Personally I like these rooms as much as the Paris standard rooms. Good Luck.

Yeah, the rates I was mentioning at Paris (approx. $80/night) are what I get just going to "reservations" while logged in. The rates under "my offers" are actually higher for some reason. It's weird because my wife and I have stayed fully comped at Paris twice in the past year and a half with "my offers". I guess maybe it's something where we've actually been going too often and they think they don't need to entice me with free rooms. Anyhow, before I make my reservations, I do plan to call and speak with a host to see if there's anything they can do. It's always worth a shot!!

do you have your wife listed as your companion on your profile? maybe with both cards together (if they are not already both listed) you can do better. I know my sister is platinum too, but she has to put another companion card with hers to get rooms sometimes. Doesn't always make sense.... I know any other offer I choose it seems like the rooms aren't comped other than like free or reduced nights.(ex: I get freeplay, but then would have to pay for the room!), not much but still, whats the point of paying for the room to get something else "free". Anyway, good luck and happy anniversary!
