I'm looking to do a last minute trip to the San Diego area for a long weekend starting on Thursday. I'm staying Thursday night @ Rincon, but their weekend rates are pretty ridiculous at $180 & $260 for Fri & Sat nights.

Can anyone recommend a nice place for Fri & Sat. nights? I'm also going to the SD baseball game on Saturday so it would be ideal if I could find some place closer to a freeway maybe that is part of the way towards downtown SD ... yet close enough to do some casino hopping.

    TIA

Sheraton Mission Valley. You can hit the 163 straight to downtown in about 10-15 minutes if my memory serves right.

What casinos? There are a lot in San Diego.

Here is one on the 15.

    Courtyard San Diego Rancho Bernardo
11611 Bernardo Plaza Court ยท San Diego, CA 92128 USA

My knowledge of the SoCal casinos is very limited as I've only ever been to Barona and even that was more than 5 years ago ... so to answer your question I really don't know other than my first day will be at Rincon. I've also been looking at a ACG for ideas, but that really only tells you where they are located.

I'm doing this trip planning very last minute as I'm not yet ready this year for the 108-109 temps that are forecast for Thursday/Friday in the PHX area.

If I was you, I would go to Rincon and Valley View the first 2 days.
At Valley View Casino they have a free lobster buffet when signing up for the player's club.

If you decide to go to the ones in east county closer to downtown, then stay at The Mission Valley Sheraton.

If you want to stay north county, then I would stay at the Courtyard.

I don't know for sure, but I think the Indian casinos in North County are better although Viejas is popular.

    Good information here.

Not sure how updated that review is. Things can change fast.

Valley View is known for having the loosest slots in San Diego but they are #7 on that list.

Actually, that review says Valley View is new, and they opened in 2001. I wouldn't pay much attention to it.

    Hyatt Mission Bay

Just came back from San Diego after my son graduated from UNLV in architecture. Spent 3 days at the Hyatt. 8 minutedfrom downtoen, no traffic, and Mission Bay is so quiet and peaceful. The Hyatt grounds feel like you are in Hawaii.

I would highly recommend you do the buffet at Valley View, but be sure to get there early. Especially if going on a Friday or Saturday, because the line can be ridiculously long (I'm talking 2 hours+ wait). If you're a guest of their hotel, you do get a line pass, so maybe check the rates there for the weekend.
