I'm planning a trip to Vegas. My in-laws are taking their motor home and want to stay at Sam's town. Fine for them, but I enjoy the Strip. I'll be travelling with kids -- aged 9 to 14.

What do you think of a 40-something couple staying at Sam's town with kids? Will we hate it? Is it ok? I appreciate your thoughts.

I kind of like Sam's Town. You can't really go casino crawling like you can on The Strip or Downtown, but there is a lot there to keep you busy. I'm partial to their casino because I hit my first Royal Flush there. :)

What are your concerns about staying there? The location? Room quality? Amenities?

There is a free shuttle that goes to and from the strip multiple times a day. I think it also goes to Freemont St.
I feel like that will be your best friend

I have only been to Sam's town once. it was a nice Casino resort but pretty out of the way from other attractions.

As a frequent sams town visitor..i think itd be perfect...for the kids...if you're used to the Strip...youll hate it..but with an onsite movie theatre, bowling alley, and 24-hour McDonald's, your kids will love it.
Throw in the huge indoor atrium and waterfall/laser show...done deal.

I'm not a fan of Sam's Town but you'll be ok for a day or two there. They have a small pool.

First of all, I can't tell you how lucky you'll be if the anchors (in-laws) don't drive you crazy. Traveling to Vegas with family and/or friends is the pits.

If Sam's Town still has that corny show in the atrium with the wolf howling at the end, the kids ought to react to it - one way or another. I liked it- vintage Vegas kitsch. Sam's Town is full of geriatrics. Rooms are small and nondescript. There's a Shepler's if you like Western wear. Video poker is excellent if you look around a little, but the better paying machines run slowly enough to discourage professionals and mess with your rhythm. I have a feeling you'll be using that shuttle.

I think it depends how long you are staying and if you are planning on renting a car. The shuttle is OK but runs very infrequently (1-1.5 hours) and starts late in the morning and ends early in the evening.

The hotel is a decent 3 star. You won't have the convenience of walking from one hotel to the next other than the East Side Cannery next door. Walking to Arizona Charlie's or Boulder Station is not far, but the walk is not that nice along Boulder Highway. The light show is ok. There is a movie theatre and bowling alley but you can do those things anywhere. There is a pool and will be fine for the kids if they don't know about the spectacular pools just down the road. There won't be many kids around. Your 14 year old will be bored silly.

Any more than a day or two, I would suggest staying at the Monte Carlo or Mandalay Bay and arranging to meet up with the inlaws throughout the stay.

We've actually been staying there, as a couple we often meet in LV loves the place. It's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.

Only real downside is it's waaaayyyyy out in the toolies! Only other casino that you can walk to (unless you REALLY like to walk!) is the Cannery.

The casino is fun, consistently-inconsistent drink service. Buffet is decent and inexpensive, but nothing to go out of your way for. Ice cream shop is yummy! Billy-Bob's is GREAT for dinner but not cheap. There's Yet Another TGIF as the coffee shop.

Rooms are surprisingly good. Only warning I might give is if you do a power nap in the afternoon, get a room that does not face the court. The roaring noise from the show will wake you up.

Been doing research on Sam's Town. Other than being off the Strip, it doesn't sound too bad. At least they have a shuttle. While you can't walk out your hotel room and be on the Strip, it's not the end of the world either.

For some reason, I was under the impression that the Orleans was RV friendly. It would be at least closer to the strip it it is.
