New to the board, and never been to Vegas. First trip coming up in 14 days! So excited! My cousin planned a surprise trip for her mother who is turning 60 and has always wanted to 1.Fly and 2.Go to Vegas, so she is getting both wishes granted at once. I was lucky enough to be included in this trip!

I have enjoyed scrolling through all the threads here and have found some really valuable info so far! But, I would so appreciate any and all advice for a Vegas newbie!

Anglndisguise: Welcome to the board and congratulations on your upcoming trip!

The number one piece of advice I always pass out is "wear your most comfortable shoes." No joke, especially for a first timer, you'll be doing a lot more walking than you ever thought possible. Nobody else will care what you wear and your feet will thank you. My second tidbit is to learn how to play whatever games you might play BEFORE you get there. Learning in the casino can be a costly education. I'm sure you'll have a great time!

Welcome! I'm guessing the Adult Video Conference (held the 15-18th) isn't on your itinerary... no worries... I'm sure you'll find LOTS of fun and hopefully win some $$$ during your visit! Have a blast!!!

Thanks Turtleman and Smartone! Really looking forward to it and cannot wait to surprise my Aunt. Her bday is on the 15th, she will open her gift to find she is flying to Vegas on the 16th. I cannot wait to see her face!

Uh, Smartone, I didn't get to choose the dates we would be going, but is that Adult Video Conference what I think it is?? :haha:

Anglndisguise: How long will you be in Vegas and where are you staying? Will you have a car? That might aid in getting some good recommendations.

Turtleman, it's going to be a very short trip. Arriving in Vegas on the 16th and back on the 18th. Just enough to barely get our feet wet.

We are staying at the Rio, not driving, figured we'd take a taxi from the airport to the hotel. We are kind of playing it on the fly. I know she got us tickets to see the Chippendales. After that we really have no firm plans, just going to enjoy the experience and soak it all in!

Welcome to the board. Turtleman is right on...Bring and wear your most comfortable shoes. Everything in Vegas looks closer than it is. It will seem as if next door is a mile away. Your visit will start with a long walk in the airport even with trams, moving sidewalks and escalators.

Thanks everybody for the warm welcome! I will try to post a pic of her face when she gets her awesome gift (with her permission, of course).

I will definitely be wearing the most comfy shoes I can find. I am just so darn excited that I can barely contain myself!

Be sure to hit the Carnival World Buffet at the Rio. It's impressive! Then, take the shuttle to the strip and just start walking.

Thanks imheids! Is that the same as the seafood buffet I keep seeing people rave about? Or is it different?

    Welcome ang!
Yes, that's the same buffet. You are already getting a lot of great advice. The rooms at Rio are great, I think you will enjoy it. Congrats on your first trip. My advice is just to relax and enjoy!!

    Welcome Vegas newbie.

Wear comfortable shoes and be prepared by going with a list of things to do, BUT don't go feeling pressured to do them all. Vegas isn't going anywhere and you can always come back again and again to complete the list.
