As you can probably tell from my ID, I live in Green Bay.

We have a decent enough casino here and the tribe just plowed about $30M into a recent reno. Rules on BJ are pretty good (H17, DA2, DAS, RSA-I think). Craps is decent with 5x odds. I'm a pretty low roller and the craps tables are $5, so that is nice. (I usually play max odds, though).

Anyway, I've only been to Vegas once--about 8 years ago. Stayed at the Excalibur, visited NYNY, the MGM and a dump whose name I simply cannot remember. Always wanted to get back, never worked out.

But! My sister and brother-in-law are runners--an activity I've absolutely no interest in--and they are doing the half for the Run the Strip in November and I'm tagging along. Since that's really gotten me excited again for Vegas, I really started poking around and found VMB. Looking forward to great tips on restaurants and a few things to do...but of course, the gambling. (My sis and BIL don't really play but I love it).

Glad to be here and thanks for the insight from all the regulars (I've been lurking a few days).

How exciting! I can't image not going for 8 years. I'm sure you will see a lot of change when you go, some good, some maybe not so good but it's still Vegas. Glad you found us, there is so much info here. Have a great trip and welcome aboard.

Welcome! Haven't been to Oneida in a long time. How did the reno turn out?

It's pretty decent. It mostly went into new restaurants rather than an expansion of the casino/ Restaurantsd all used to be in the "concourse" where the main entrance is but now there are like 3 more decently sized and nicely done places near the "back" of the main casino. They moved the poker room from Mason St to the Main Casino and it's very nice (8 tables), redid the carpet, added more restrooms (now 1 conveniently located right across from the craps pit). There seem to be fewer table games overall, though. 2 craps tables (which are new with the all/small/tall feature), 1 Let it Ride, 2 3-card poker, and probably 6-8 blackjack tables (with Royal Match).

For an Indian casino, I think it's pretty nice. It seems to be far less smoky. (They are exempt from the statewide smoking ban and I can tell you, it's awesome to be smoke-free at bars now--but they did create a smoke-free "area" for slots and people are pretty considerate if no one is smoking at a table).

Glad to hear there are lots of Wisconsinites here and thanks for the kind hellos. I am definitely looking forward to seeing everything that's "new" (to me).

Welcome a board. Make sure to do a trip report. Lot's of pictures.

We fellow cheeseheads need something to distract from the weather in November

Just a tip, don't plan on getting around the strip on Marathon day by cab or bus. I was there last year. I left downtown via the Deuce to see a show at NYNY at 2:30, they finally left me off on I believe Koval behind the MGM. I arrived at NYNY at 7:00 for my show at 7:30. There were several people on board the bus that were participating in the race they finally just got off and started running toward the start line.

Appreciate the tip. I have lessons learned for previously following my sis for her runs. I would hope her info packet has good info on where spectators can go, etc...and fortunately, I never really expected to be able to get around except by foot during the race. What I'm hoping for: the finish line right outside the door of a decent casino and I'll just sort wander over right about when she finishes...maybe.

I thought about doing that run also. It would be hard to control myself in Vegas before I ran.

Welcome hope you have a great trip!

I really can't wait. I want to to be here sooner--2 months seems so far away. (I'm also already planning for my next trip, hopefully in late spring!)
