    Hi all,

I am off to Vegas for my first time on 19th September and having discovered this forum today I have a whole lot of reading to do!

I'm from Scotland and this trip is for my husbands 40th Birthday as he has ALWAYS wanted to go to Vegas. It'll also be our first whole week away from the kids who will be staying with Granny while we enjoy Vegas - balancing the excitement with the Mummy guilt

I have my flights booked, 7 nights in the Cosmopolitan with the free breakfast, and just today I booked Rod Stewart tickets having found wonderful advice on here from Gregrio :nworthy:

The next things on my want list are a Grand Canyon helicopter trip and a Cirque show (no idea how to choose which though!).

Other than that we want to do every classic/cheesy/touristy vegas thing we can fit in as this is likely to be our only ever trip - so any/all advice welcome!

    Best start reading......

Welcome to the site , you say it could be your one and only trip to Vegas, that's what we said 6 years ago and we are off for our 5th , 10 day trip in Sept ,( we leave the day you arrive ).
Ok the long flights from Scotland is a bummer , but well worth it.

Have a look at the UK vegas site, especially the first few posts it will give you a multitude of good ideas.

And don't forget rule number 1 when travelling to the states from the UK.

    HAVE YOU GOT YOUR ESTA.

Love is the best cirque show IMHO seen it 3 times tickets can be got from summer of cirque for around $60 , which is cheap , don't worry about the seats there aint a bad one in the house.

Cirque show = Love or Mystere

Can't go wrong with those choices. Mystere is the original.

Gregrio knows his shows, so you did good on following his advice.

The helicopters take off south of Mandalay Bay. On the way to the helipcopter take off, or when you come back, you can get your picture taken at the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign as it is on your way.

The Canyon is spectacular. Well worth it.

Don't schedule much more as you will want some time to be able to do some spur of the moment things.

Enjoy your time. It will be hot. Bring comfortable walking shoes. Since you are from Scotland it will really be hot. Drink plenty of water.

    Hi, Nellie!

So glad you are coming to visit Vegas. I hope you have a wonderful time. My friends from Scotland just flew back home yesterday. After spending a week in Scotland and enjoying a Highland wedding (Aberlour) we hosted them in CA, NV, and AZ (Grand Canyon) for their honeymoon.

I put them up at the Cosmo and they LOVED it.

Here's a pic from the wedding.
The groom and his wife and mother on the left and my wife and I on the right.

    Sounds like good advice!

I think I am going to go for Ka - hubby isn't sure about cirque at all so since he likes sci-fi and martial arts type stuff I'm hoping the story/drama of Ka might suit him. Still to sort out how to get the seats Gregrio recommends though - am definitely going to keep following his advice!

Grand Canyon and Ka are the only other things I'm going to book now as I think you are right about being able to do other things. We do have a full week so I'm thinking if I stop there that should give us plenty of 'free' time.

I can't decide whether to book the helicopter trip online before we go or wait until we get there - would be so disappointed if we didn't get to do it but at the same time some people telling me buying it over there will be half the price.

    Still reading!

I got your number - thanks

I don't think I can use my mobile (cellphone, sorry!) when there, but I can call from the hotel. I'm thinking maybe on the night we arrive we could meet for a drink and you can tell us all the things you've been up to?

If we're checked in and upacked by 9pm Vegas time it will be 5am British time and we need to try to stay up a few hours more apparently to get into the right body clock thing!

    That'll be a challenge!

    Fellow Scot

    Hi,

We have been to Vegas once and are from Scotland. The flight goes really quick as you are so excited about going to vegas.

I would definetly go to one of the Cirque shows. We seen 3 when we were there ( 'O',Ka & Love) 'O' show was amazing!!! KA is good if ur hubby likes martial arts. Love is good if you like the beatles and the whole I love Britain thing. 3 shows was way too much. You can normally get discounted tickets for KA at tickets 4 tonight when we were there. Ppl said u had to queue early to get tickets but we went at midday sometime and they had plenty of tickets! http://www.tix4tonight.com/

For the Grand Canyon, I would go to the 'Grand Canyon experience' place down next to the MGm (between MGM and M&M world) We booked there and they were really helpful. We flew with 'Sundance'. Great Service.

The other parts I loved was the trip to downtown Fermont St. We went t Stratosphere and got a taxi from there.

When it come to food, I would go to the tickets 4 tonight. You can get 50% off some meals. We bought the 50% of at planet dailies at Planet Hollywood a few times and it was great food. Some of the fancier restuarants were really expensive but no better than a standard place in Glasgow.

We loved M&M word, the rides on the Stratosphere. go in all the hotel as see round them, they are amazing! (Love the fact u can go in and out all the hotels and use alot of the facilities/entertainment)

Don't plan too much as u should have a day or 2 to wonder about and u will see stuff u can do the next day or too. We don't too much the first day or 2 and then the jet lag caught up on us that we were nearly falling asleep during show.

Enjoy Vegas! It is the best place/holiday. We are going back in Nov :)

Thats brilliant info Clara - thank you.

Stupid question (sorry) - was the trip to Fermont Street at night? I've not looked at Fermont St so must read about that.

Great tip on using the ticket place for meals - I'd no idea they did that. I thought it was just shows.

    Thanks!

I never knew any of the stuff till there. Think we could have saved alot of money.

We went to fremont street early afternoon, and styed till about 11pm (Taxi back to the strip). The have a light show every hr. Definetly a must see. lets u see the older casinos and old style Vegas. Its good at night seeing all the lights!

I seen in one of the threads somewhere on here that someone had voucher/coupon website for money off things at fremont street.
