My name is Robin and I am a Vegas addict…….

I’ve been reading this forum for over 4 years now and figured it was time to come out of the closet. My Husband and I are both crazy about Vegas. We have 9 trips under our belt and hopefully a lot more to come. We are big time low rollers and love to slum it down town but usually spend a few days on the strip as well.

We usually go to Vegas in May so this time of year I really start going through withdrawals and need to start planning the next trip. I have learned so much from VMB so hopefully I can repay that with some info from our trips.

    Hi Robin from Maine!

I am originally from Maine (ayuh, chummy) and currently at our summer cabin there...heading back to Florida Wed.

Which airline and airport to you fly from to Vegas? My sister wants to go with me next summer so I am looking into options from here. JetBlue and Southwest haven't opened dates yet so I have been checking others just to get a feel. Non stops are hard to find even from Logan!

I like May, too. Warm enough to enjoy the pool but not too hot to walk the strip.

    Janet

Non stops are pretty much impossible from maine unfortunately. Our first trip we got one with southwest out of Manchester NH but that is about a four hour drive for us, so not the best choice for me, I hate sitting in a car for that long.
Bangor is the best for us since it is only a half hour away. This last May we got a great flight out of Bangor with Delta, it had one stop in Detroit which wasn't bad. Usually flying from Bangor or Portland we would have a layover in Philadelphia or New York so you are still on the East coast, at least with Detroit you are going in the right direction.
I have found that flying out in May the cheapest rates come up around the end of January.

I hate the drive to Manchester, too, but we did it 5-6 times RT every summer for a dozen years (now I am retired.) MY husband is still working so he flew up to join me at camp 5 times (one week each month) JetBlue to Boston connecting on Cape Air to Augusta...it was brilliant! I hadn't considered Bangor so I'll check that. My top priority is NOT coming home on a red eye. I wish my sister could do May but she's a teacher.

When on the strip, where do you like to stay? Harrah's is comfortable for me, generous with comps and a great location. I've never stayed downtown (don't think I'd want to, but my son loves it.)

What a gorgeous weekend we'll have in Maine! Get outside and enjoy!

We have never had to do the red eye into Bangor yet. The rates aren't any cheaper for the red eye anyway. This last trip we left Bangor at 5:30 am our time and was in Vegas by 1:00 Vegas time so it was like we gained 1/2 a day! We left Vegas at 2 pm and landed in Bangor at 11 pm it was great, and it only cost $288.00 each! The year before we paid around $400 each and had to drive two hours to Portland and get a hotel for two nights, flying out of Bangor was going to be over $600.00 each. I have checked out leaving from Augusta or Bar Harbor but the rates are always really high for us.
Before My Vegas we always stayed at the Flamingo but the past couple of years we have stayed at the Mirage, I love it there. This year we stayed at Aria, I hated it! I guess you can dress me up but I am just not going to feel comfortable in fancy places. It seemed like everyone looked at us funny when we walked through the casino with our slushie drinks :rolleyes2: We are just rednecks at heart I guess.
We usually do 4 days downtown and 4 days on the strip just to break things up. We have stayed at 4 Queens, and the D when it was Fitzgeralds and as the D. We really like it at the D and will probably stay again. It is the only place that we ever get any comps (very small comps but still comps) and we just feel comfortable there.
We will be out riding our motorcycles without winter coats this afternoon and tomorrow. Can't wait!
