We just got back on Saturday from our trip, still working on the TR. However we've decided to make LAS part of our summer vacation and want to do a Grand Canyon day tour this time.

Any suggestions on a good tour company to use?

You might find some more in the GETTING THERE AND GETTING AROUND I think. I see lots of folks going back n forth on bus vs drive or my choice - Helo trip.

I have not used the tour companies for GC, but I would recommend renting a car and doing it yourselves. Its about a four hour drive each way. That is preferable to me rather than riding a bus. Plus, you can do what you want when you get there. You're not any group schedule.

Whatever you decide, I would encourage you to make the trip. GC is an incredible sight and everyone should see it if they have the opportunity

I agree renting a car and going at your own pace ...maybe throw in a night at the canyon would be the #1 recommendation. If however you don't want to do that...I can recommend Grand-Adventures. They cost a little more than the big bus tours but are well worth the extra cost. They only take 10 people in a van, price includes breakfast and lunch and you have your own personal tour guide. Okay for the 10 of you, but feels like your own personal guide. Beware no matter what company you take it is a very long day.

Agree with others that you are better off driving if at all possible. Another recommendation would be to spend the night so you can stay and watch the sunset. Also it gives you the option to explore the canyon some more the next day and do some hiking if you are into that. Either way being on your own schedule makes the experience so much better.

I can recommend the Grand Adventures Sky Walk tour. Amazing trip! It is a shorter journey from Las Vegas than the other Grand Canyon sites and the canyon is every bit as breathtaking as I recall from other trips to the National Park part of the canyon.

We used Grand Canyon Tours for a south rim visit last month. If you are strapped for time and don't want to drive I recommend them. It does make for a long day. 5 or so hours to get there they stop at Hoover Dam and a quick potty stop at Kingman, a stop at a Route 66 Seligman and then 3 hours to view the canyon and 4 hours back.

If you have the time rent a car and stay one night at the Canyon or there is a small town right outside the canyon with lodging. For me it was worth seeing the Canyon again -- it had been almost 50 years.

Helo is about 4 hours if I remember right. No boring drive. Great scenery along the way of the Strip, Dam and Lake Mead. Lunch halfway down in the Canyon.
