    Hello,

I'm leaving for Vegas Monday for 3 nights and I'm of course excited :)

I usually go to Vegas every month and I like to gamble (wow what a surprise right...lol). I play slots and have good comps with CET and Mlife.

This trip though will be different, there is no gonna be ANY gambling :( I had to pay a larger than expected amount to the IRS this month so I don't have enough extra money to gamble away :(

I thought about not going to Vegas for this month but changed my mind. Obviously I can't stay at any of the CET or Mlife properties because I won't be playing.

I'm paying (something I haven't done in a long time!!!!) for staying at the Red Rock Casino for 3 nights. I was there for one night last month and I absolutely loved the place! It's actually nicer than many of the strip hotels!!!!

I will be doing a lot of spas and massages, and pool and relaxing, and maybe visit some place off the strip.

I was wondering if anyone did something like this with no gambling and if you liked it.

I don't go to Las Vegas for any other reason than gambling, so no.

Just wanted to put in my .02

Yes, a number of times, short business trips.

Did I have fun? Not really.

Yes! We see the shows and sites. 3rd trip in Nov with no duplicates! Next March might start having some duplication, but some shows are worth seeing more than once!

I/we have made many trips with little or no gambling. But that matters not to the tastes of another.

In your case, I'd go somewhere else. Gambling's obviously important to you and while gambling does subsidize everyone's Vegas trip costs to some extent, rooms, food and particularly spa do add up, so unless you just gotta have that Vegas vibe -- which might drive you nuts if you can't get a handle in your hand -- why not Palm Springs or San Diego or San Francisco or Carmel or any of a load of great places easily and often quickly accessible from So Cal?

I have done 3 or 4 Vegas trips where I didn't gamble and I had a blast. However, I was busy doing other things like cabanas at the pool with friends, nice dinners, clubs at night, etc. The trips that I didn't gamble weren't pre-planned--it just worked out that I didn't gamble because I was so preoccupied with other fun.

Your circumstances seem to be a bit different, as you have decided ahead of time you aren't gambling. There is a ton of stuff to do in Vegas, so that won't be an issue. You just need to decide whether constantly saying "no" to the allure of gambling will prohibit you from having fun at the other activities you engage in.

If I were to do a non-gambling trip Red Rock would be up at the top of my destinations.

Red Rock Canyon is incredible and I can spend a full day hiking around there. Stop at Whole Foods on W Charleston on the way and grab a picnic lunch.

Go check out some fun places like the Pinball/Atomic Energy/Mob museum.

Go bowling, or play bingo, that's not gambling right? :evillaugh

Enjoy some off-strip restaurants. There's many new places opening in Summerlin, check on Yelp or Vegas Chatter.

Personally I wouldn't go to Vegas if I wasn't gambling, but there's plenty to do if you're not.

I appreciate everyone's opinion. I should have mentioned that I started to go to Vegas years ago because of the great spas they have over there. I love spas and spas retreats and Vegas has some of the best spas in the country. After a few trips I found out I also like gambling :) when I go to Vegas I usually spend the day at the spa/pool and gamble at night only. I thought about going someplace else but even without using any comps Vegas is still cheaper than most places. I got red Rock on hotwire for $ 71 a night, the buffet there is $8. For a hotel like red Rock in palm springs for example it would be over $200! Thank you for all the advice on things to see. I plan to explore summerlin and would like to visit container park. I just have to keep myself busy at night which is when I usually gamble :)

So this isn't really 'no gambling' - but I like using freeplay coupons from ACG/LVA to get some extra spending money. Between my wife and I, we usually get about $500 worth of equity in freeplay coupons per trip!

Just did and had a great time. We were down for Valentine's Day weekend to see a series of three concerts at the Brooklyn Bowl. Stayed next door at the Flaming O.

I am a football bettor so with no games I didn't see anything I could make any money on, or at least have an edge on. Would have bet NASCAR but completely forgot. Granted the shows went long in to the morning and I wasn't in bed until six or seven In the morning
so I slept long past noon. Up and out of the room three-ish, drive somewhere for a big meal and exploring, back to the hotel to pre funk six-ish, then off to the shows at seven thirty.

Generally I would sit at TAG bar and play for good beers, but didn't really miss that either.

Yes.... I would still really enjoy Vegas without the gambling some trips, but not every trip :):):)

I have never done a no-gambling trip. I am an experimenter though. You are tempting me.

Due to financial constraints, my sister will be doing Vegas on $50 a day! I have her room covered, and we do have a couple MyVegas buffets - but other than that, she will be learning how to do Vegas on a very tight budget.

I only get there once a year, if that, so when I go, it is gambling all the time.

Lots of times and YES... I had/have fun, but I'm way different than most folks on here. I'm there primarily for business and I already live in Nevada, so the whole gambling thing isn't much of a deal for me.

Yes, several times. I have usually been there for business or weddings, so i've had a great time without gambling. If you didn't have an additional reason to be in Vegas and just went for a holiday but didn't gamble, then I could see it being a bit of a waste.

    Thanks everyone for the replies!

It will be a little different but I'm sure I'll have a great relaxing time which is the main reason I go to Vegas. I like to gamble but I guess I don't really consider myself an hard core gambler and I'm sure I can enjoy other things too.

Already have all my spa appointments planned :) And Red Rock has a private pool for the spa which is most of the time empty and they have cabanas you don't need to pay for at this private pool so I'll be spending most of my time there :)

I needed a cheap vacation for a few days and after researching other places, Vegas came out the cheapest, so Vegas it is :)

The only time I went to vegas and didn't gamble was in 2001 when my dad died in vegas (yeah, 2001 was probably the worst year of my life, had health issues too, and then 9/11 happened). We had to fly to vegas to pick up the body and had to go through hoops to get everything done. health department to get the death certificate and get them to release the body, funeral home to arrange to bring him back, then go back to somewhere else to get other approvals, etc. Also met with the managers at the Cal where he died, went all around paying off his markers and picking up his sports bet winnings (he bet on the superbowl).

Was there for 3 whole days but was busy in the day waiting in lines or driving around to get things done and at night was too mentally exhausted to gamble. Then I had problems with my mom, she wanted to cremate up there but the family all wanted us to bring dad's body home for the funeral, my mom put up a big fuss about it, etc. etc.

I think I played a few hands at bj and was on the craps table maybe for 1 hour the whole trip. I just wasn't in the mood to gamble. So no, that trip wasn't fun for me.

If i wasn't going to gamble, I wouldn't be going to Vegas. Plenty of other places to visit.

I've never gone to Vegas and didn't gamble. But after you talked about your circumstances concerning this trip it looks like you might be able to do it. The only problem would be in the evenings when you stated you usually gamble at night.

I suggest going to the movies and bowling, which the Red Rock have on premises. Maybe in the early evening drive around and explore Summerlin then end the night with a movie.

For me....Vegas without gambling is what I imagine hell must be like. I couldn't do it, not even during pool season.
