So I have a trip on MDW for me and a buddy. All we really need is a place to crash for a few hours a day. We aren't really worried about amenities, other than the room being clean and the shower has decent pressure.

It has been quite some time since I have stayed at a Total Rewards property, and even then it was a non-renovated Bally's room about 5 years ago. I have not stayed at either of Harrah's or Quad/IP before but the rate I am getting is about the same for both.

Suggestions? It is between these two, as mLife is offering me jack squat for that weekend, and I have enough RCs to cover the two non-comped nights at either.

Harrah's. That will be my answer until they renovate the rooms at the Quad. It may be my answer even then. The room will be nicer and cleaner and I think the service is better at Harrah's.

Ditto, and especially if the rates are the same. Unless you score a suite, Harrahs rooms aren't anything special, but they've suited my needs since the days it was called the Holiday Casino. From what you're saying, I'm sure the standard rooms would be fine for you.

When we first started going to Vegas we were in the same boat (brother and I) - just give us a clean room. So we stayed at Villa Roma (for $50 per night) on Convention Center Drive.

That was back when Slots of Fun had cheap table games - so the location was actually ok. And we walked a lot! Up and down the whole strip!

Since then we have signed up for Total Rewards card and get comped of really cheap room - cheaper than Villa Roma - even with the resort fee. So now we pick the nicest place we can for the cheapest rate.

This usually gives us: The Quad, Harrahs, Bally's, Flamingo - sometimes Planet Hollywood.

As a result we have stayed in Bally's and mostly Flamingo. (The pool is a big deal for us so we stayed away from PH).

For you, the location of Harraha's and The Quad or so similar that I would go on YouTube and check out the rooms and choose the best looking room - because you aren't worried about amenities.

Noted. Thanks guys. I managed to bink a sweet rate a couple of months ago ($150 plus resort fee and taxes and a night comped for the 3 nights we will be out there) at Harrah's and have just checked in off and on since then to see if something better came along.

I got something comparable at Quad and was just looking to see if it was worth the switch. I guess not.

Picked up the TR Visa along the way so resort fees are taken care of (thank you free Platinum status) and a ton of RCs as well.

It sounds like you've decided, but I'll chime in anyway to agree that Harrah's is the better option. Yes, Quad has renovated it's public spaces, and did a pretty nice job of it, but unless/until they update the rooms, I won't even consider staying there. Harrah's room are nothing special but they are clean and comfortable and I've never had an issue during past stays.

I'll also be in town MDW. We get in on Sunday and rates were pretty high (for what I'm used to which is $0) that night, but then we got comp for Mon, Tues so it works out overall.

    veovis23,
If you believe in "play where you stay", that along with your TR Visa card keeping you at Platinum level, will go a long way in getting you fully comped rooms in the future.

Harrah's by a landslide. We've stayed at both multiple times. Rooms better at Harrah's but we like gambling at Q better, plus we've had great CW service at the Q

Sadly this will be my last trip for probably 2-3 years as the wife and I are expecting baby #2 in the late summer. So future offers aren't really a concern.

Well, congrats on your upcoming #2. At least it seems you've got your priorites in order.

Hope you do this trip up in style with your buddy. I've been traveling to Vegas with the same buddy for about 23 years now. We're both divorced so that makes our priorities easy.....#1 is Vegas.

Yeah, I have been with this guy on 4 of my last 5 trips. It typically has been with my wife or another friend or two as well, so this will be the first trip where it is just the two of us. Between the bottle service comp from the myVegas FB game, and a bunch of other crap from that time suck we are going to have a ball. I anticipate a trip or two to Saphires, Ricks, etc.

Then again my time table may be accelerated for a return trip if this new job opportunity pans out. 40% bump in pay would help considerably.

Oh and thanks for the congrats. It's going to be a fun summer.
