Just got back from vegas last night and with construction outside of Harrahs we are thinking of staying at Ballys labor day weekend. Always have stayed at Harrahs but got great offer from Ballys too. How do the rooms at Ballys compare to the renovated rooms in carnival tower at Harrahs? The Ballys website pic of rooms makes the rooms look very dated. Thanks for any info!!

How bad is it tore up out front of Harrahs and the IP?

I've never had any fun at Harrah's, just don't like it there. I'd rather stay at Imperial Palace. You should check out Bally's, just make sure you get the North Tower room if modern amenities are important to you. I stayed there my last trip, and I was pleasantly surprised with both the hotel and the casino.

It is now boarded up from outside Carnival court bar entrance all the way to Flamingo with opening for IP. Walk under narrow scaffolding and there was lots of dust in the air during the day. Sad to see OSheas closed.

North Tower rooms are right on par with Harrahs premium. Not much of a view of strip. Ones facing North towards Wynn are the best view IMHO.

Ballys North Tower rooms are clean, no LCD TV in bath, and its a tub shower combo. Avoid South Tower rooms at all costs. They are pretty dingy.

I stay at Ballys frequently and love the vibe of this place, not to mention you have access to all the dining options at Paris, and can hop over the bridge to visit Cosmo and MGM.

Check out this link for room photos.

I'm a big fan of Bally's and if you can get a North tower room you should be very happy.

Since I have now stayed at both, I would pick Ballys over Harrahs just for the size of the rooms.
Neither hotels furniture was that worn in rooms I stayed, Ballys rooms are just ,square footage wise, much bigger than Harrahs rooms.

My vote is for Bally's also, their rooms are much larger like everyone says. And they are really good about free upgrades to North Tower room if you book a South Tower. I never stayed in a South Tower room but the pics do like outdated. I have always been in the North Tower and the rooms are soo much better than Harrah's.

I would also agree the vibe is better at Bally's gaming area. Really nice dealers and waitresses. The front desk is super nice every time I check-in.

As far as location, both hotels are great locations but I would say that Bally's would be better casue of that construction going on. Bally's is also near good shopping at PH and dining options. I know you will not be disappointed staying at Bally's.

another advantage of North Tower rooms at Ballys...the elevator takes you to the Pool level.

At check in ask for a room on the "Diamond Floor" this is some of their best rooms, a $20 spot got us two adjoining rooms facing North with great views!! We really enjoyed our stay!

Beware, they will bang you for $3 a day if you confess to using the safe at checkout!!

vegaslisa, i can't compare bally's to harrahs because i have never stayed at harrahs. i can, however, give you my opinion on the south tower room at bally's since others on here have mentioned north tower more. the south tower room is huge! yeah, it's a bit worn, but it was clean. and we paid $40 a night! so no way we were complaining  we also had a pretty decent view of the bellagio fountains and a great view of the eiffel tower and paris pool (if that floats your boat). i attached some pics of our bally's south tower room for you (taken sept. 2011).

you mean they won't know i used the safe unless i confess???? :confused2: i thought there was a sensor or something on it. or are you just pulling my leg? :nono:

I've never stayed at either location but if I had to choose I think it would have to be Bally's.
The few times I've been in the casino it sort of reminded me of The ShowBoat in Altantic City.
Now Bally's in AC is another topic all together... Claridge Tower... EWWWW!

For those that don't like the South Tower, is it just because you wouldn't care for a fountain view? We're staying at Bally's in a few months and my wife is excited about the prospect of having a view to the Bellagio fountains from the room. If no fountain views are available, then I'll try to get into the North Tower I guess.

Are the South Tower rooms bad? What would you compare them to? Better than IP? Worse?

R Box - we've stayed in and prefer the South tower....upgrades are pretty easy to get there - have gotten a suite more than once with a nice view of the B fountains. The rooms always had new bedding, linens and carpet - just had the old tv's but I don't go to LV to watch tv so it is ok. Was very disappointed when they forced us to take a North tower one year - insisted because we were diamond level. Good luck!

I'm voting Ballys as well. Plus its connected to Paris. Even without construction I'd stay at Ballys over Harrahs.

My wife and I are as middle of the road as anyone ever when going to Vegas. For us, most everything is value based but not necessarily cheap. That having been said, after staying at Bally's(always North Tower) a few times, I got comped a few nights for a South Tower room last fall. I've done the $20 before and been upgraded but this time for some reason I thought, "How bad could they be?" and stayed with the South Tower room. Now the view from our room on the 15th floor of the South tower included the Eiffel Tower and the Fountains. The rooms are the same large(440sq ft I believe) as the North Tower. I expected worn furniture and older looking fixtures going in. I will not stay in a South Tower room again. It's not that it was unlivable or anything, it's just that, for a few bucks more, you can be in a nicer room. Anyway, the room fell under my expectations which were not real high to begin with. My opinion is that these rooms are as nice as any old beach motel where the carpet and bathroom fixtures desperately need replaced. Anyway, that's my 2cents for what it's worth. The view was pretty nice.

I just stayed at Bally's a few weeks ago, north tower this time, just by the luck of the draw. Room was a bit larger and more recently remodeled than the south tower.

Only "antiquity" was that it still had an older tube-type TV. NBD, actually, but ...

It also appeared to have one of those sensors which scale back the AC when nobody's in the room. When we would get to the room it would be somewhat warmish but cooled down in 5-10 minutes. Harrah's has this kind of thing too.

The north tower room was most definitely nicer than the south tower room on one of the recent previous trips, but the south tower is really not bad at all.

I'll vote for the North Tower rooms being pretty dang nice - usually available for the South rates with the $20 trick, although I think I got a junior suite type of room when I did it. From those photos someone posted of the South Tower room - that is a complete dump compared to the North. View of course is much better - guess it comes down on which feature you prefer (check my sig. for a clue to my preference...)

ouch, i didn't think our room was a complete dump (i'm the one who posted the pics). they were old but clean. why would i need more than that? we didn't pick south tower because of the view. we simply chose the cheapest room option (north tower was almost twice as much). i don't see the allure of wasting money with the $20 trick on a "nicer" room when we're only in there to sleep and shower really. that $20 can go for more gambling and drinking! :drunk:
