Is there any way to avoid the hotel deposit? Plan on bookin harrahs at $26 a night mid week end of aug..but says the hotel requires $100 a day for deposit. What is this for and is there anyway around it. Thanks. Low roller...don't want a stupid deposit to cut into my trip funds.

I haven't stayed at Harrah's for some years but I have stayed at several other CET hotels recently and they let you opt out of the deposit. If you opt out you can't charge anything to your room or make any outgoing calls on the phone in your room.

they'll give it back once they figure out you didn't damage anything. it could take as little as 2 days from check out up to several weeks.

call them and ask. I was able to get by with paying 1/2 of a deposit once by talking to management (pretty embarrassing too). I'm willing to bet that the vast majority of the time, it won't work.

From my inquiry and understanding it is a "pending" charge and doesn't affect the card at all, but not 100% certain on that.

It only matters if your credit card is nearly maxed out.

I would call them directly to get an answer and hopefully clerk gives you the correct answer. Here is an article about holds but I imagine it is a bit dated, BUT it states you can opt to give them 100 cash for entire stay, might be nice alternative. Back in May, I stayed at MB for 2 nights, Aria for 2 nights, and Sunset Station for two nights. I had over just over $1000 in "pending" on my card for almost a week.

Or are young with a low limit or possibly using a debit card with limited funds.

Yes... Haha u hit the nail on the head. Young and using a debit card. I have plenty of $ for the trip but not if there's a $700 hold on my card.

I've never stayed at Harrah's but in the past two years stayed at Flamingo, Ballys, Planet Hollywood and they have always given the option of not put a visa down and you just can't charge to the room. I like to charge to the room so I don't have to take cash to the pool but I would like Harrah's is the same as they are all CET hotels.

Plain and simple answer, Harrah's Las Vegas does not require a deposit when you check in. Neither does a bunch of other CET properties in Las Vegas.

I stay at Harrahs often. I think it was 2 or 3 years ago I asked about deposits and they said if it was cash they stopped because the lines for check out were to long LOL. I know when I stayed in May if you just said no to charging to your room they said no deposit/ hold on the CC.

Assuming you can manage it right - get a real credit card.

Great for an emergency. Makes hotel stays easy. Same with car rentals.

Booked a room at Harrah's yesterday...mostly comped but have to pay $10 per day PLUS resort fee for my convenience.....HOWEVER, they did charge a deposit of $11.20 to hold the room...first time I have seen that.

Working in customer service for a bank, I can tell you this.

If you ever use a debit card and they issue a pending charge for something such as a "damage hold," you can simple call your bank, and have the authorization reversed. The funds are then automatically placed back to your available balance. People do this all the time and it is common when some hotels put a hold for several days or even upwards to a week on your debit card.

The only way the funds will then be debited, is if there is actually damage to your room, they will then debit your account and it will post rather then pend.
