I watched Yogi play in 1961.....and up to retirement.
He was not the Yogi of the 1950's --- still a GREAT pinch hitter !
he played left field ( by '61 ) and Elston Howard was catching.
But Yogi used a WAR CLUB for a bat !....the thing was gigantic !
I have a few of his Topps cards from those years.

I caddied for his son, Dale - at a Celebrity Outing - nice guy -
    Yogi was there,too.
One of the golf members was standing next to Yogi --
when told "Hey, Yogi's here !"
The member ( I guess not much for facial recognition ? - as Yogi was right next to him )
says "Yogi ?.....hey ?.......it ain't over til it's over."
    I looked at Yogi's reaction........he made no reaction -- I guess he's
heard that too many times to react.
What a jerk - the member was !

It's starting to get late earlier. (A reference to the sun setting earlier in late summer).

"When you get to the fork in the road, take it."

My favorite from the AFLAC commercial: "And they give you cash, which is just as good as money."

"You better cut the pizza in four slices because I'm not hungry enough to eat six."

"If you don't know where you are going, you might end up someplace else."

"You can observe a lot just by watching."

"Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded."

He was one of the great players of the game. For five seasons he had more home runs than strike outs at the plate. In 1950 he struck out only 12 times in 578 at bats. In 1962 (age 37) in caught every pitch in a 22 inning, seven hour game against the Tigers. The guy was one tough ball player.
He grew up across the street from Joe Garagiola.

When I was a kid in the '50's, the most popular Topp's trading card was Mickey Mantle. Yogi was a very close second.

My biggest memory is Yogi jumping into Don Larsen's arms after the last pitch of the World Series perfect game.

And of course, my favorite one:

"It's Deja vu, all over again."

    And a favorite story:
One spring, when Yogi was managing the Yankees, a streaker darted onto the field in nothing but a pair of sneakers and a paper bag. Asked later whether the streaker was a man or woman, Yogi purportedly replied, “I don’t know, they had a bag over their head.”
