My wife and I drove from Erie, Pa. to Niagara Falls, Ontario. We left on Monday morning and returned about noon on Wednesday. We played at Casino Niagara and Fallsview. I had several small hits on slot machines. Financially, the trip was unsuccessful. We drove on route 5 along the shore of Lake Erie. The leaves were beautiful. Crossing the Peace Bridge took 5 minutes. We drove along the Niagara Parkway to Niagara Falls. We stayed at a Day's Inn on Victoria Avenue. The rate was $43 a night. I had to pay $10 a night for parking. On Tuesday morning we drove to Niagara-the-Lake. The scenery along the Niagara River was stunning. Niagara-on-the- Lake was not very crowded. Summer crowds are gone. We walked to the spot where the Niagara River flows in Lake Ontario. The War of 1812 is very important for Erie, Pa. We are proud that the fleet for the USA was built in Erie and in Ashtabula County, Ohio. We have a sailing replica of the flagship Niagara. The battle of Lake Erie was a great victory for the USA. The ground war was not as successful for the USA. Canadians have several historical spots from the war proudly highlighted. My wife wanted to stop and look at the Floral Clock. There are many wineries between Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake. The return trip was smooth. We crossed The Rainbow Bridge in about 5 minutes.
