Congratulations! Many people have to wait years for a Royal! I got my first one at a Bellagio bar while killing time waiting for a friend to arrive. It's true, you never forget your first!

Why in the world would you chase a $1400 quarter royal? It's likely you'll pay more in taxes than the $1k you'd win without the progressive (or maybe not depending on your tax level).

Why not? I play slots with jackpot >$1200. I'm Canadian so they withhold 30% ($420 on $1400). Canadians then file a US tax return to be reimbursed.

Ah... that would definitely be a good reason I didn't think of!

    Definitely worth chasing then!

If you don't bother to itemize your gambling wins/losses, this is a good point.

I really hope you are deducting losses to offset your wins through w2-g.

For us in Canada, it just makes sure we have a start on a bankroll for the following year ;)

    Congrats on the dealt royal!

Oh I am way up about 1500 dollars after my trip. I cashed out on that machine for a total of 1300 dollars and only put a 20 dollar bill in.

    Congrats

Got my first Royal four years ago at LA Bayou downtown after playing a few hands. I clearly emptied the cage as they paid me in a few $100s, lots of $20s, $10s and $5s.
