I used to order Beck's a lot but then most of the casinos (including Bellagio where I do a lot of my machine gambling - maybe they have a better selection for table players, I've never explored that possibility even while at their tables) stopped offering it so I've been ordering Sam Adams or Stella. I had assumed, since Beck's is off limits, than anything better than that wasn't available either. Seems like Heinekin and Newcastle are readily available but while better then Miller/Coors/Bud, they don't thrill me. MC used to offer their house beers but of course there are no house beers any more and I don't think their casino offers anything beyond the usual macro stuff mentioned above.

However, I just read on beeradvocate that Widmer Nelson's and DFH 60 Minute IPA pints are available at Bellagio. And recently someone told me they were drinking free Sierra Nevada's. I forgot to test that when I was there last month but I'll be back next month and don't want to lose this deal!

    1. Can anyone confirm?
    2. What other decent beers are available and where?

I usually just stick to Newcastle / Corona depending on mood. Most mass market US beer is terrible, and with the exception of Shiner Bock, I've not been introduced to many US craft/independent beers.

Always up for recommendations if people have any.

When I play poker at MGM i usually drink Sam Adams. It's not outstanding but it does the trick.

That was my non Corona fallback until I found out everyone had Newcastle.

I've never understood why people diss big-batch crap like Millweiser and Coorswill then get all emotionally gaga over Mexican big-batch crap like Corona. Shitty beer is shitty beer.

    This is hilarious.

FWIW, my friends tell me I have a lousy beer palate and I can't disagree with them. When I drink I prefer cocktails.

I don't get 'emotionally gaga' over Corona. But I do prefer it to the other swill you listed, so it falls into a "devil you know" category. Everyone has to have at least one shitty beer they can tolerate (or the discipline not to order beer when selection is limited).

Especially if you're from out of the Country and thus know for a fact the casinos will never carry the brands you prefer at home.

If I came to the states and my choice was Bud and I didn't like our Bud, I'd also not like its ingeniously marketed swill bro from Mexico.

It would be GREAT if the big hotels stepped up. I'll have a Kentucky bourbon, please.

Not sure what you mean by "my choice was Bud and I didn't like our Bud". But I don't like Canadian or American Bud, nor Coors, nor Miller, nor Blue or Canadian for that matter. I'd take Corona over any of those. You are free to disagree or just reject them all. I'm certainly much happier when I can get a Creemore Springs or Granville Island or St Ambroise. And in a pinch a Rickard's Red or Keith's (Canadian mass produced but far better than the big brands) will do the job.

I don't see what's so ingenious about Corona marketing. Seems pretty much the same message as American and Canadian beer (beer get you scantily clad girl). Now, Stella Artois, on the other hand, is a triumph of marketing.

Anyway, you can have your Bourbon. I'm holding out for a casino to offer up Delirium Tremens on tap. I'll probably be holding out a while.

It's exactly as I wrote. If my two beer options coming to America are Bud or Corona, and I don't like Bud, I won't like Corona, either.

I only want that bourbon when I can't get a beer I like. Well, not only, but it gives me options. I love the West. Craft beer is proliferating and great brews dot the map, but there ain't another region in the country that has it wired like we do.

If Corona's marketing campaign was a fishing hook, it would be far far down the gullet of gringos. It's why people who scoff at poorly-produced beer drink that particular poorly-produced beer. If folks choose to drink it, bueno bueno, but it's pretty absurd to do so and disparage the other mass dogs.

We do it pretty well here too:wink2: Ken - you need to visit us - Dane brews most weekends, always has 2-3 kegs tapped of interesting choices. Mostly IPAs:rolleyes2: but not always.....

Bills sometimes has a couple of decent (ish) beers on tap. NYNY had some decent choices in bottles. There's more of a demand these days, and I actually think some of the casinos are responding in their supply (she says hopefully....:peace:)

I've never understood why people choose to get so off topic. The OP was simply about beer options while gambling. Off topic is off topic.

Gamble at M Resort and you can get just about anything from 32 Below. I've spent many an hour there playing penny slots and sucking down free pints of Sierra Nevada.

[OT] Corona is Spanish for "burro piss." If you are going to have a Mexican beer, order a Bohemia or a Modelo. [/OT]

Because this is a message board on the internet. It's what we do:peace: And as long as we do it politely and with respect, it's ok.

There is always the "ignore" option if there are certain posters whose posts you never want to see:peace:

I still can't believe that - truly awesome. Must figure out how we're going to manage that on our next trip.....

At Main St Station, you can get their microbrews at the VP bar, only, I think? And at Four Queens, you have to buy the microbrews - CW doesn't serve them (at least not when I've asked)

Do most casinos serve either of those?

I agreed. But sometimes when it get's off topic it also gets snarky. I don't ever ignore anyone's post because I want to read them all. Even if I don't like them. In the end I like everyone here...we all like Vegas...good enough for me.

My thoughts exactly. Beer snobs will never rest. Figure out what you like, and then drink it. If you prefer Bud Light Platinum to Delirium Tremens, that's your choice. If you choose Corona Light over Duvel, it's good you found what you enjoy. Find out who serves it and drink up. F what the beer snobs say.

Hmm, scary. I was going to get "back on track" and discuss how Terri and I -- that's my wife, btw -- enjoy ... 32 at M.
