I recently had the opportunity to visit the newly-remodeled International Beer Bar at the Golden Nugget. I really like what they’ve done to the place. This has always been a popular spot based not only on the many bottled and tap beers available from all over the world, but also for the fact that it’s open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

I can remember many an early morning, just prior to flying out of town, when I’d stop by here and grab a red bull on the rocks in a cup for my ride to the airport. I was usually the only customer, standing there ordering an energy drink at 5:00 am. But they always treated me like a king, even knowing I was headed out that day. So I’ve always had a special affinity for this place.

Now that it’s been remodeled to match neighboring Bar 46, there is a certain modern flair at this establishment that wasn’t quite there before. They still have all the usual (and unusual) beers and the same staff. But now they rotate in some of the new bartenders from Bar 46 and other places. Added a few TVs and kept the VP, including the progressive jackpot, too. So that’s good.

Also, a staff member told me the next upgrade will be Claude’s Bar (the big circular one by the cashier’s cage). It will soon match the new & hip appearance of Bar 46 and the Int’l Beer Bar. Little by little, he said, they’re updating the entire property.

And I really like the way they’re going about it. Instead of doing a massive (and perhaps soft) upgrade all at once, they’re really putting everything into each phase, little by little. I think it’s working. The results appear outstanding. At least from this out-of-towner’s perspective, anyway.

Looking forward to visiting it again and seeing the other renovations when they're done.

Never heard of the place but I like beer and spend half of each trip downtown. What kind of selection do they have? What are the prices?

Thanks for the update. This is on my agenda for next month. I'm ready to see the remodel and sample a few of their beers.

I'm not sure if they have Balashi beer. But I know they have Warsteiner and Guiness. They pour the Guiness in nice, tall glasses and of course, comp them all if you're playing.

Now I wish I had paid more attention to the beers they have so I could give a better answer, but I do know they had a lot. I'll try to get a better rundown when I go back in January.
