My Wife and I will be staying at the GN from March 1st to 4th. While I am aware of the Landry card and its use to upgrade rooms, it appears that its impossible to buy a Landry card online or over the phone using a Canadian CC.

This leaves me with the $20 Sandwich trick. We are booked into the Carson tower, and having never stayed in the GN I'm not positive what if any upgrades would be possible/realistic. I know to ask for a room higher up, but anything else?

As a side note we are there to celebrate my wife's 40th (March 1st). Do you think this could help with an upgrade?

I bought my Landrys card (3?) years ago using a Canadian credit card. Has this changed?

Employees at GN are not allowed to accept any "trick" , and are being watched closely, and will be dismissed if caught. You might get upgraded to the Gold Tower asking nicely. If think you might be dissapointed with the Carson Tower, rebook in the Rush Tower.

If it helps, I purchased a Landrys card a few months ago using a British credit card, no problem.

interesting, I'll try it again, but their website keeps informing me that I have an incorrect postal code, that I need to enter a zipcode even know I have chosen Canada as my country of residence. It only happens on the credit card screen, not my initial address setup.

Good to know about the $20 tricky not being wise at GN as well.

Ok I just tried purchasing a card again, and now it works. Must have been something wonky with their system last week. Now hopefully the card shows up in time.

Quick question - can the Welcome Reward and/or Birthday Reward ($25 each) be used towards a room at the Golden Nugget? Can the Rewards be used anywhere in the Golden Nugget - at restaurants, etc?

One thing you can do is to go to the Rainforest Cafe at MGM prior to heading to GN for check in (Yes I know it is a hassle with your luggage). You can get a drink and purchase your Landry Select Club Card. You get the points, the $25 dining comp, and can then call reservations to get this added or show up at hotel with card.

I had a friend do this by meeting at MGM and it worked out for him minus the cab fare and luggage hassle of checking with bell desk. I think it works out if you are coming in on a busy data for GN and want the room upgrade.
