    Trips to Las Vegas:
Long-time reader, first post. I go to Vegas about four times a year, always for three nights. Usually stay at the El Cortez where my room is comped for moderate craps ($68 across) and BJ play. Three trips ago I walked down to the Nugget and started to play some $25 BJ, above my usual comfort zone. After a few hours the pit boss told me I needed to meet a host, so he sent one over. She gave me her card and said I should email her next time I was coming and she might help with a room.

So, a couple months later I emailed her and sure enough, she set me up with a basic room for three nights. About that time I started lurking on this board and came to learn that $25/hand probably wasn't the play my GN host was hoping for to keep giving me a free room, and that my initial offer was probably just in hopes I'd step it up.

When I arrived for that second trip, my bankroll took a quick beating and I only played about 12 hours at $25/hand, and then went down to the Cortez and finished my trip at craps. After the trip I figured I hadn't come close to earning another room comp, so I didn't ask and for my next trip I was back staying at the Cortez. The little BJ I did play at GN that third trip was even smaller: $10-$20/hand.

By this time I figured I was long past room comp territory at GN, but last week I emailed my host just to see what would happen. To my surprise, she gladly comped me three room nights next month, and on a Thur-Sat at that. Not a word about my low playing her on my last two trips.

Any idea what's going on? Is the new comp just a teaser to try and get me back in? I figure that's the case, cause I sure haven't earned it on my play I don't think. Not complaining, mind you!

Thanks for any thoughts and see you at the tables March 20-23!!

You're lucky to be getting comped at $25 a hand at Golden Nugget. I have averaged $50 a hand for many hours and have never received any comps other than deep discounts and food (GN is VERY generous for food from the pit). Enjoy!

    Time of Year

Often it just comes down to the time of year. If the casino is not full anyway and you are a player of sorts, they will often just comp you. You just never know.
