    My Trip Report

Well I’ll make a go at my first trip report. Unfortunately I’m not big on pictures and let’s face it, I don’t need evidence on a boys trip. So here’s the background. This was our yearly boys trip… the numbers have dwindled down to 2 of us this year due to weddings and a soon to be father. We are in our early 30’s.
Flight in. Got to the airport early….3 beers down before boarding. Flight was supposed to be full but we managed to have an empty seat between us… Score #1. Flight was uneventful… except for the wonderful wench sitting behind me hacking up a lung without covering her mouth…….. 2 scotch on the rocks on the flight to denver (gotta kill the germs from that lady… too bad it didn’t work as I was sick all trip). Anyways Flew Southwest to Denver for what was supposed to be a 90 minute layover. Pound 3 Milk stouts (which were awesome…Left Hand brewery maybe? Tasted like Guinness but creamier, a bit of a chocolate taste and less bitter)… Head over to our gate…. and find out we will be waiting another 2 hours. No biggie…. we hit a different bar and make a new friend…. 2 maybe 3 more Sam Octoberfest and its time to roll. Another Scotch on the rocks on Denver to LAS flight.
So we get to the airport and meet Miguel from Presidential Limo--- Great guy… he took care of us. We were only supposed to have a sedan but ended up with a limo…. Score # 2!!!! So we offer our new friend from the flight a ride on our way downtown.

Officially the start of Day 1 (Thursday)

Check in at Golden Nugget. This was the first time I contacted a host so I wasn’t expecting much. He said he was gonna hook me up with a room in the Gold tower and comp me the first night based on previous play. To my surprise he was able to get us 2 queen beds in the Rush Tower. Score # 3… little did I know this was gonna be my last win for the entire trip.
Hit the sports book… put in bets for Denver vs Baltimore…. Then hit the pool for an hour or so. Golden Nugget pool is very nice but you need to get there early to get a chair.
Started getting hungry plus we needed to find somewhere to watch the game so we head over to Chicago brewing at the 4queens. I had the deep dish pizza (very good crust, fresh sauce… highly recommend it), My buddy had the burger which he said was dry and tasteless. We each also had 4 glenlivet on the rocks. We were playing video poker while eating and watching the game, so I figured these would be comped… nope $12 each…. What the #$#!... seriously? They only comp Dewers or Chivas. Lesson learned. But it wasn’t all that bad. Turns out if we go to the players club before 10pm they match our restaurant receipts in slot play up to $50. So we each got $50 in slot play… which I turned into exactly $0, but my buddy turned into $50 cash. We next hit the BJ tables since we also got a 1st card ace and $10 matchplay for signing up for players cards. Walk away from the table even.
What to do next…… back to GN for 2-4 limit poker….. how much can I lose here… few more scotch on the rocks and down another $160. What the hell… unreal. Everytime I had a decent hand I could not complete it. Well at least I didn’t have to pay for the scotch this time….lol. Well after a couple hours I had enough of playing holdem. I leave the table and play Let it Ride for about an hour, walk away even money and up a few more Glenlivet. Slots and a few more drinks… then I head up to the room. Try to wake up my buddy since its 3am and its breakfast time. Well my buddy who was already in bed did not agree.
Here’s where the rest of day 1 gets hazy and somehow merges into day 2. I decide to go grab another $500 out of my bankroll since I need breakfast….. and how better to curb my appetite than to gamble and drink more. I decide to play almost every game they offer in the casino and drink scotch at each game. Play a little let it ride, 3 card poker, slots, video poker, pai gow…. Down to $200 so back to 3Card poker…. And I hit 3 of a kind for $450. Move over to the craps table and broke even. Here is where I should have walked away, but instead I hit the roulette table… played the 17/20 split and within a couple spins 20…. Yes!!!! Thank you Natedog….lol. Try to continue my hotstreak until I get felted. Ok no big deal….. I’ve only been up and drinking for 28 hours. Whats another hour. Manage to drop all my money in $5 slots and $1 video poker. Idiot! Time to go to bed and cry myself to sleep.

    Day 2 (Friday)

After a good cry and 4 ½ hours of sleep I am told I need to wake up.
11:45 we head over to Dupars. After hearing so much about these damn pancakes I had to give it a try. Honestly I wasn’t thank impressed. Service wasn’t that good. Corned beef hash was horrible. The pancakes were light and fluffy but we both thought they were completely tasteless. Sorry to all the diehard Dupars fans out there.
Hit the GN pool again for an hour and a couple $13 rum runners. Now I’m exhausted and decide to head back to the room and nap for a couple hours. My buddy comes back with a bottle of Dewers from the ABC store. I am told that I need to drink and snap out of the funk I am in…. so I do.
Head over to the ½ price ticket booth at 4Queens and pickup tickets for Andrew Dice Clay at hard rock. We have plenty of time so we hit the Oyster bar at Palace Station. Wait in line for about an 45minutes-1 hour. Food was great as usual. Lobster gumbo, Combo pan roast (#8 spicy--- just spicy enough to make it hurt but not too much that you couldn’t enjoy it). 2 dozen oysters (tasted good but oh my God where the hell did they find these steroid oysters--- they were huge) and of course 50 oz bud lights. Heading out I find out that Palace Station has cigarettes for $4 a pack, so I pickup 2 packs for the road… should have grab a carton at the rate I was smoking this trip.
Head over to Vinyl at Hard Rock and get our tickets for Andrew Dice Clay. They put on a great show. Opener was Eleanor Kerrigan who was funny…. They Clay did his part….. Raunchy as expected, they pick on the audience a little and he closed the show by doing his perverted nursery rhymes…. Classic. The venue was small so I don’t think there really is a bad seat in the house. The drink prices weren’t that bad either. They had beer specials and $7 for jack and cokes.

We head back over to GN and play a little… I was eying one of the blazing 7’s progressive machines and of course someone hit it right when I got there for aournd $1700. Damn it!!!! So I drink a little… lose a little more and call it an early night.
Day 3… move to the MGM, Bill Maher at Palms, and more scotch to come

    Day 3 (Saturday)

Brunch buffet at GN. Nothing special. Wasn’t good but wasn’t horrible… but wasn’t worth $16. Avoid the pre-made scrambled eggs… have them make you eggs at the omelet station. Bacon and sausage were good… but you can’t really screw that up.
Late checkout at GN at noon. My host was able to comp the 2 nights and $40 in food.
Cab it to MGM. Went to the invited guest line as I am Gold with Mlife and the line moved pretty fast. Got a standard Queen Grand room on the 23rd floor witch what they said was a strip view. I saw Tropicana and MB. Not really what I would call a strip view but it was comped so I can’t complain.
My buddy and I split the remainder of the Dewers we had from GN. Get settled in the room and I headed down to the casino to play my $150 in slot play and enjoy my scotch. Turned the $150 into $80 cash on a slot with a mini and major progressive. I throw another $20 in and hit the mini progressive for $250. Maybe my luck was turning around. Went to the bar and played $20 in video poker and had a Macallan on the rocks. We had plenty of time to kill so we walked down to the ABC store of the strip just past the M&M store. 1 bottle Glenlivet, 1 bottle Glenfiddich and ohhhhh a free mug for spending $100. That mug is coming in handy now. Drinking tea trying to kick this damn cold.
We get back to the room and have some time to kill before the Bill Maher show so we put a small dent in the Scotch over the next couple hours. And by a dent I mean something to the tune of a little more than half of each bottle. Oh boy we are not college kids anymore…. And we should not be doing this.
We head down to Wolfgang pucks. A couple beers. Then we split the Truffled chips (thank you to everyone who mentioned these… they are awesome… we ordered them every time we went there), meatball pizza and fries.
We cabbed it to the Palms for the show. We were a little early so we found a $10 craps table and had a decent run. Left up around $25 buck each and hit the show.

Bill Maher show. As expected it was very political. I enjoyed it but my buddy wasn’t too happy with the Republican bashing. The show was good but a little long. We both passed out a couple times during the show. We left the show and hit the bar. Slammed back 2 vodka redbulls each…. Much needed boost of energy.
Then we hit the craps table again. Everyone at the table was rolling great… hitting at least one or two points before crapping out. I had some of my best rolls. I was hitting hard ways for everyone but myself. I was up and down but never could seem to bet correctly for my own benefit. I hit a hard 6 for my buddy when he put $25 on it. Such a shame… everyone at the table was up and I was barely breaking even…. I still kick myself in the ass for that one. Somepoint after 2am we left the Palms… my buddy was up around $500 and surprise surprise I was down $200 (yes it was that kind of trip for me… how do u lose $200 on a hot table….. yup…… idiot! Well at least a tried to drink my weight in scotch while playing)
We head over to meet our friends from the airport and get a couple rounds of drinks with them then head out. We go to Hooters for breakfast Wings fries and beers…. Which were absolutely horrible. We rarely ever send food back but these wings were cooked so bad. They absorbed all the oil from the fryolator. The waitress even said that the cooks at night suck. We payed for the beers and fries and tiped the waitress well but the manager took the wings off our bill.\
Walked across the street to MGM. My buddy did the right thing by going to bed. I decided I needed to drink some more. Played slots …. 2 Macallan on the rocks…. Lost. Let it ride…… macallan…… lost lost lost. 3 card poker……. Lost again. Hit the ATM for another $400. Blackjack switch. 1 more macallan. Hey I’m up to $600 from a $200 buy in. At this point. The waitress comes by and I hear the pitboss tell her to bring me a water…. I decided it’s a good time to switch to coffee. Damnit I’m gonna turn this $600 into $1000 then leave the table. So what did I do. I enjoyed my coffee. Turned my $600 into $0…. Reached into my pocket for my last $200….. and the epic comeback!!!!!!!!! Nope. I went back to the room… to cry myself to sleep. Once again. Idiot!

    Day 4 (Sunday)
We’ll Sunday was supposed to be a fun filled day of watching football. But this wasn’t so….. I need to thank my friends Mr. Macallan and Mr. Glenlivet for putting myself in a scotch coma and making me sleep on and off all day while watching a few minutes of each game between snoozes. This was actually a saving grace b/c I was too tired to go put my football bets in. And wouldn’t you know it, none of the games I was gonna bet on covered….. see scotch saved me $500.
After I was finally able to move from bed we headed down to Wolfgang pucks once again. Truffled chips and Prime burgers…….. Mr Puck…… well done!!!!
A little more gaming and nothing special to note for the rest of the night.

    Day 5 (Monday)
Fully recovered and feeling good. Headed down to Avenue24 (the old Studio Café) for corned beef hash and eggs. This place is a million times better than the old café. If studio café left a bad taste in your mouth before, don’t hesitate to try this place now….. its worth it.

Time to fill up our Starbucks ice coffee cups with some fresh ice and the rest of our scotch. To the POOOOLLLLLL!!!!!

Lounging at the pool was much needed. This was the first clear day after days of rain and miserable gambling. MGM pool was great as usual… lots of lounging and we were even able to find some chairs. Finished our scotch and 3 buckets of bud light in the sun.

Put in our bets for the Monday night football games. Just before we head out…. Alert over the loudspeaker…. Emergency broadcast system for torrential rain and lightning. A little rain isn’t gonna stop us from getting our Smith and Wollensky steak dinner. So we head out the West Wing entrance through the Grand Canyon store and down the strip 2 blocks to Smith and Wo’s.

Smith and Wo’s did not disappoint as usual. We each had soup. a Spice rubbed long bone ribeye (34 oz I believe; dry aged in house) each , truffled mac &cheese, whipped potatoes, asparagus and a Bottle of inexpensive cabernet. Note too bad for $278 plus tip.
Enjoyed our steak dinner and finished watching the games. Walked back to MGM for a little more gambling and losing.

    Day 6 (Tuesday)
Last morning. Oh such a sweet and sour moment. I love this city so much but she has not been nice to me this trip. I woke up early so I hit the casino for a bit and another $1200 loss. I was hoping for a last chance turnaround which did not happen. Oh well such is life. Checked in with the host on duty in the morning to see if I could get any charges taken off. Nothing great, just used express comps. But I was able to get a limo setup to take us to the airport.
Went down to Avenue24 for another delicious breakfast. Had the breakfast scramble and coffee this time. Packed and free limo to the airport.

Thanks guys for listening to my rambling. Hope you enjoyed my first TR.

Great trip report. I just got over some virus the whole state of Florida has it seems. Took me 3.5 weeks and 2 different antibiotics to beat this shit. During that time I didn't go to friends houses, go to band practice, kiss or hug or even shake hands with people, visit family - least of all get on a plane. Sick people and crying babies on planes :grrr::grrr:

Sorry the gambling wasn't so good for you, but that kinda shit happens every once in a while. I haven't had a drink since July 4th and I'm a Scotch man as well - my mouth was watering..I don't know if I can make it till November 22nd to start drinking again...

    Great job on the report!

Truffeled chips are new to me, how did I miss these? I've added them to the list for the upcoming trip.

guys thank you for you responses. Glad you enjoyed the TR.

As for the truffled chips at Wolfgang pucks. You really need to try them. I was expected really greasy heavy chips but I was pleasantly surprised. They were very light and not greasy at all. Then they cover it with a béchamel/cheese sauce and topped with crumbled blue cheese. I think it was only around $8 for the order.... money well spent.

Wish you would have had better luck but that was a fun report to read! I thought I was going to drink a lot on our trip but there is no way I could keep up with you! Hadn't heard about the slot play rebate on your food receipt at 4 Queens.does that work at all restaurants? Will be trying Magnolias.
