Does GN still host a free viewing party for March Madness? Went about 5 years ago and it was great! If so, how early do you need to get there on the opening weekend game days to get a seat?

Lastly, any idea if the $20 sandwich trick will work for a tower upgrade? We do check in on Wednesday - so a day before the madness begins.

Get on their email list and you'll get something (events, specials) about once a week. Haven't gotten anything about March Madness yet.

I've not tried the $20 trick at the GN, but posters over the years at this and other sites seem to report a low level of success. Best bet for a free upgrade is to get a Landry's Card and book your reservation for whatever tower directly with the GN, then request an upgrade on check-in. We've had about a 50% success rate being upgraded from Carson to Gold Tower, but never to Rush. That's been the case whether we booked with the GN or through a site like Expedia or Orbitz. Technically the free upgrades are only supposed to be available to those who book directly.

Just received a March Madness offer in my mailbox today.
"Free March Fever Viewing Parties March 19-22
Live Betting Stations, Giant TV's, Drawings"

The offer says call Casino Marketing at 800-777-5687 for reservations (I assume for room but they may have more info on viewing party"

Been there the last three years. So far it's been free but you and friends would have to get there early to get a table, if it's only you and a friend someone may let you sit at their table (provided there are chairs left, some tables have more people then chairs so they grab unused chairs). Can't tell you about the $20 sandwich at the GN although I would doubt it would work, Fremont casino's have finally figured out to cash in on MM, prices for rooms are a lot higher this year then in the past and they're usually sold out the first weekend.

The problem with the nugget is they keep expanding the vip area so that it locks up a lot of the room. I love the setup but it has become very hard to land a table in there. They start lining up really early like before 3am and if you are not in line by 7 am you have no chance of landing a seat on Thursday or Friday. A lot of people have gone to the party at the 'd'. Set up is nowhere near as good as nugget but it is passable. Freemont has had a well attended party but nothing great. Plaza had the best book downtown and I will be there for sure for opening days. $20 is not going to get you moved to Rush tower which is really where you want to be in the Nugget

Thanks for all the responses. One last question.

We will be getting in late on Wednesday. I would like to place my bets for Thursday before the madness begins....how late is the GN sportsbook open?

I think it depends on what's going on on Wednesday night. If there are games, they will be open. I have cashed tickets in the horse area after the regular sports book closes, but I don't know if you can place bets there late. I would check with the horse betting counter when you get there if the regular book is closed.

My bad. My mind was on Sam's Town! not GN. What was I thinking. GN has a pretty small sports book but if there is something to bet, they are open.
