I am in the process of planning a trip to Vegas to celebrate our 10th anniversary. We've stayed at the Golden Nugget many times and like being downtown. We've never stayed in a Gold Club room and thought it might be a nice treat. But I can't quite pin down the difference between the Gold Club room (in the Gold Tower) and the Rush Gold Club room in the Rush Tower. I would appreciate any info and opinions as to what each is like and if its worth the extra money for the Rush tower.

My buddy opted for the Gold Club in the Gold Tower over my explicit warning not to, while we went for the regular Rush Tower rooms. The Gold Club rooms in the Gold Tower give you exclusive top floor access, free internet, free water, and some other crap you won't likely use (VIP access to the buffet??). The rooms are no where near as nice as the Rush Tower regular rooms, let alone the corner suites. The Rush Tower Gold Club rooms offer the same amenities but with a Rush Tower room (with a soaker tub). So unless you just want to feel exclusive (and pay for it) I would just stick to a Rush Tower room.. or a corner suite considering it is a special trip. A Landry's select card will give you a comp upgrade for free if booking directly with the hotel, we often get upgraded to the corner suites this way.

I did the upgrade to the Gold Club room in the Gold (Old North) tower just before Thanksgiving. You get this:
-key card access to the top few floors
-VIP pass gets you into the Spa daily (which is why I upgraded. cost was = to what it cost to get in the spa so I figured may as well get a better room for my $20, too), and is line pass for both the Buffet and the showroom if you are seeing a show when there..
-the hallway by the elevator they have fruit, munchies like peanuts, mixed nuts, trail type mix w/m&ms, etc. and small bottled water to grab. In the AM they have a self serve coffee deal and fruit, possible juice too. Front desk said water and coffee free, but when I saw the usual K cups and Fiji in the room, I asked if that's what they meant or would there be coffee in the hallway in the AM (which is what happened) but she said room stuff was free. I think I may have been charged for cracking open the $10 K cup box. Never did followup on that. oh well. Also, rooms seem to have been gussied up with left over Rush Tower decor, made to fit in old North Tower. Didn't have that fresh feel like Rush Tower. Too dark and small actually. Included the coupon book with 2 free BF or lunch buffets but the upgrade special at the time also included 2 free BFast buffets, too.
Overall, if you don't use the spa, buffet or appreciate being closer to the casino, stick with the very nice and simple Carson Tower or do the upgrade to the Rush for the latest, hippest decor and big room-style.

I don't think either are worth it over a Regular Rush Tower room for value. But if I had to pick, definitely the Gold Rush Club, because it is new, has a much better bathroom, and modern HVAC , instead of the window units.
