Noticed yesterday that their room rates for my next 3 visits are $399.99 a night. No lie, four hundred bucks. BUT, you can get half off at hotels.com and it's only $200.00 a night. Something weird is up.

Same for me. My next visit they want $200, but agoda only wants $69. I am tempted to book it just because it might be the last time I get a chance to stay there, and I do really like the property except for the gaming.

Wow... how strange... I just went on their site, as I'll be back in town the week of the 22nd and it had those same rates! That's crazy!

I sent them an email just now, asking what the heck is up. For the record, I'm already booked there for May 14-18 at $25 avg. a night plus resort fee. I'll share whatever response they send me.

I'm booked at EC for a long weekend May 4th for 3 nights. I've checked everyday for 3 weeks and the prices were the same through EasyClickTravel. Yesterday they doubled!

Man, crazy rates. Is that a fight weekend or is there a huge convention(s)?

Interesting. The property that basically spawned the CheapoVegas site back in the day...

edit- holy crap, checked for the 29th, $400, but still has the 50% off, so $200? TWO HUNDRED?????

are they trying to make money or keep reservations to a minimum?

First weekend is Cinco de Mayo, Kentucky Derby and a fight weekend. There should be no value rooms left in town at this point,

It doesnt have anything to do with an event though. It is $400 per night, every night for the rest of the year.....

Oops, now they are not even selling rooms on their website. Maybe they are fixing it, or......

According to Vegaschatter.com, they are "Scrubbing" their Facebook page. Sure enough, anything posted asking what is going on is quickly removed. I posted something in the middle of the night, and it was gone first thing this am. There is definately SOMETHING up.

They did load their rates back into their reservation system.....for this week only.

I went into the Spike this morning to confirm my May reservation and ask why rates were crazy. Desk agent sheepishly told me that they have big groups coming in all summer, that they are crazy busy, and that's why rates are so high. Of course, she wasn't convincing at all and appeared uncomfortable telling me something that was clearly untrue. The mystery remains.

Also, I've had two comments removed from their page in the past 24 hours.

Makes me feel bad for the employees. They have some very good front desk clerks, and security. It sucks for them to be put in a position to lie, and with all the talk, they are probably getting non stop questions.

a trusted source has heard that it will close at the end of the month, but i'm guessing the situation is a bit fluid right now...

That's a shame if true. With Tony Hsieh assuming the debt I doubt that land will become shuttered blight. I suspect they'll tear down the hotel and build something else.

I think there is more going on than meets the eye. It would be very unusual for a Casino to just close up without the required notice to their employees. As speculated on Vegas Chatter, I am thinking Zappos might be using it for temporary housing for when they start moving into their new digs. Could be anything though, really. I am truly intrigued by this one. Could also be as simple as trying to have a clean slate when 5th Street Gaming takes over, although I dont think that would affect the hotel operations.
