    My Trip Report

    Thursday, February 24:

My friend G and I flew out of Buffalo with Southwest on Thursday afternoon. Our flight was delayed by an hour! Great way to start the trip. There was a late flight to Orlando that was using the same gate. We probably would have been on time because the plane was sitting and waiting for it. G had a doctors note so we got on first and sat in the bulkhead seats. Lots of leg room, but no tray and you have to stick everything up top including purses which kind of sucked. Before we left they had to do some de-icing and whatnot. We had a direct flight there. It was uneventful. I had one drink on the plane, but I wasn't feeling it. It was a long 5 1/2 hours!

We arrived at McCarran and were being picked up by my friend J who I was best friends with in elementary school and now lives in Spokane, her friend M who lives in Alberta and her other friend S who lives in Arizona. We're all late 20s/early 30s. S drove to Vegas so she picked us all up at the airport. When G and I got to the baggage claim I didn't see them at first. Only because they were facing the wrong way and were all standing holding huge signs with our names on them and bottles of cocktails. We packed up the truck and headed to the Flamingo. I tried the $20 trick and managed to get a mini suite which was nice and large (I peeked into the regular rooms while they were cleaning them and they were much smaller). We were on the 22nd floor in the north tower. The very last room. It was a long walk! I'm glad we got the bigger room though because we had a lot of crap with us. The room was nice, but needed some maintenance. The beds were super comfy and the windows were enormous! I wasn't expecting much from the Flamingo, so I was quite impressed.

Once we got unpacked and cleaned up, we went to Margaritaville for a late dinner. The theme of this trip for me was not being able to eat a damn thing. I ordered a BBQ pork sandwich and had about 2 bites. After M and J danced for a bit we headed over to Caesars Palace and wandered around a little. We went to Cleopatra's Barge which was a cool looking place and had good music, but man...we were the youngest by far! We stayed there a little bit and then G and I split up from M and J (S had left long ago) to go to bed. The other girls went to Pure after we left (apparently not that impressive and the floor was so sticky your shoes would get stuck...gross).

    Friday, February 25:

After we rolled out of bed, we went to Hash House a Go Go for breakfast. I had a scramble with bacon and avocado that was delicious. G and I went there when we went in September, but it was still amazing how huge their portions are. We ordered a bottle of champagne and had fresh squeezed tangerine juice for mimosas. It was a lot cheaper than buying separate drinks and it was soo yummy!

After breakfast (it must have been 1 pm by this time...oops), we decided to go to the Premium Outlets. We headed north on the strip to find the next Gold stop (not before buying huge slushy drinks at Rockhouse at IP and doing a little shopping at Sephora at Venetian) and ended up at Wynn I think before we found a stop.

The slushy drinks were hitting us in a bad way, so after a little shopping we decided to head back for a nap. G and I kept going south and went shopping at Ross and saw the lions at MGM before we headed back to the hotel to get dressed for the evening.

We picked up a 24 hour Buffet of Buffets pass. It's gone up yet again to $45 for Total Rewards members. We started out at the Flamingo buffet for dinner. We went there last trip just before it closed and I didn't like it at all. It was much better when the food was fresh and we weren't being rushed. It's still not the best buffet, but it was passable.

After dinner we walked down to the Venetian where we were on the guest list at Tao. It was open bar between 10-11. The girls took full advantage of it, but I couldn't choke that crap back. The vodka tasted like rubbing alcohol and we didn't recognize the brand they were using. Disgusting. Drinks were about $12 there too after that, so I stayed sober that night. The dance floor was packed and we danced for hours! G and I walked back a bit earlier than the others (damn time difference). I got a text later from J asking where we were (we told them we were leaving! lol) and that they were at Denny's.

I have no idea what time we got up, but we went to Paris for the breakfast/brunch buffet. The line was gigantic so we opted to pay the $10 to skip the line. Totally worth it! The food was fantastic. Everyone loved it. Someone threw up on the floor at the buffet which was pretty gross, but other than that, it was as good as we remembered.

After breakfast we decided to use our 2 for 1 Eiffel tower coupons. It was a little slow waiting to get up. I swear the guy in the elevator was saying something about Caesars buying the Palms very soon. Has anyone else heard about this?? He was also saying how they're going to be doing a Bourbon Street/Mardi Gras theme somewhere around O'Sheas. It was so cold that day and we were completely under dressed. We stayed long enough to take some pictures and watch the fountain show and headed back down.

We walked back to Flamingo and played a few slots. I played a Spin to Win machine and was doing quite well on it. Then not so well... I cashed out at around $80-$100 I think which put my gambling money up $30 I think. Better than a loss at that point!

Everyone decided to take a nap and I knew I couldn't sleep so I decided to walk down to the Miracle Mile shops by myself. Then I saw the Cosmo and knew I had to go check it out. I went there instead and signed up for their players card. The lady at the counter was quite entertaining. All of the staff I encountered were super friendly. I checked out the huge crystal chandelier and took a little walk on each floor. I made it up to the pool area and checked it out. It's really nice (I'll post some pictures at the end). There was a security guy at the door, but you could come and go as you pleased. I was wearing a winter coat and gloves that day, so nobody was swimming. lol

They had a really cool Tesla Roadster you could win at a bank of slots, so I decided to test my luck. $60 later and I decided they could keep their stupid car. I did get an energy drink (not sure what brand they use, but I really liked it) and a vodka, so it wasn't all bad I guess. I then walked over to the big wheel where you bet on the numbers (i.e. 40 is 40:1 odds and 1 is 1:1 odds). I made friends with a girl about my age who told me she arrived the day before and was already down $1200! Ouch... And here I was all sore over losing $60 a few minutes before. lol I had to get back to my room at 5 because G doesn't have a phone. I was cutting it close and just wanted to get rid of the last few dollars in chips I had so I could leave. I put $3 on both 40s and sure enough it hit. Everyone there had chips on 40, so there was a lot of celebrating. So much so that I managed to kick a wine glass that some jerk left on the floor and smashed it everywhere. Oops. I gave the dealer...spinnner?? a nice tip and booted it back to the hotel.

G and I walked across to Caeasars to meet the other girls for dinner at Lago for our last buffet on our pass. We got there and it was only J and M. Where is S? Well apparently she packed up during their nap and went back to Arizona. Wow! I know she wasn't feeling very well and kept bailing on us quite early, so I guess she wasn't having a great time. Oh well...

Dinner at Lago was ok and it was much smaller than we expected. The desserts were so cute though! After dinner we got ready and then headed to J and M's room to pre-drink while they finished getting ready. G drank a lot the night before and was staying sober. J, M and I managed to almost finish a bottle of Goose. I was mixing it with some 3.5% wine/cooler drink. Seriously...3.5%?? Why bother? lol Needless to say we were already drunk by the time we left for the club.

We took a cab to the Palms where we were on the guestlist again. I really liked the casino there! M and I got ourselves a drink at a casino bar while the other two waited in line. I was chatting with a couple from LA about the cost of living in Toronto vs. LA. Real exciting stuff. haha M bought me a Jagerbomb which I choked back half of before giving the rest to her and then we went up to the Playboy Club. I was impressed. I figured it would be pure cheese, but it was a classy looking place. Blackjack tables throughout and the view was spectacular! We didn't stay long before we went up to Moon. Nothing fancy there, but it was packed. DJ Jazzy Jeff was spinning (if you've ever seen Fresh Prince of Bel Air, you'd know who this was!) and one of the Green Bay Packers was partying at a table beside the dance floor. I have no clue who he was. I'm Canadian...I watch hockey. lol We took some amazing pictures from the patio there.

I think at this point we had to go back down to the casino level to get to Rain. We stopped and talked to some random guy who was there with his sweet drunk mother and we made him buy us all drinks. I don't remember getting to Rain, but I remember acrobats on the ceiling. It was much bigger than Moon, so it didn't seem quite as packed which was nice. Apparently there were creepy people on stilts too which I do not recall... The rest of the night gets a little fuzzy, but there was a limo involved, fake English accents, MGM, crying over lost ID/room cards and trying to get security at MGM to find them (that turned out to be in J's bra the entire time) and rolling back into the Flamingo at 6 am.

    Sunday, February 27:

Once we got going, we went to the Venetian and had lunch at Grand Lux Cafe. It would have been delicious if I wasn't on my two bite limit all weekend plus being hungover like crazy. It was really slow though. After lunch we went to Madame Tussauds and took a bunch of photos. J disappeared and went back to the hotel to nurse her hangover. The rest of us went to Miracle Mile to do some quick shopping before heading back. We also stopped at one of the cheap ticket booths at Casino Royale and picked up tickets for X Burlesque for $30 each.

Back at the hotel, G and I watched part of the Oscars and I managed to nap a bit before being forced awake to get ready to go out. We went to the Burger Joint at Flamingo and I ordered a grilled cheese off the kids menu that I managed to eat most of and then we headed to the line for the show.

The theatre was tiny there! The show was ok. I was expecting more of the burlesque type of stuff, you know, because of the name and all. There was a bit, but nothing like a Dita Von Teese in a martini glass type of routine. There were surprisingly no fake boobs on the girls either which was refreshing. lol They had a comedian in the middle of the show while the set was rearranged and she was hilarious!

After the show I packed my stuff and went to sleep.

    Monday, February 28:

G and I left for the airport at about 5:30 am. Got bulkhead seating again. It was a 9 hour day (one layover and one stop), but it seemed much better than the 5 1/2 hours straight. Our layover in St. Louis was almost 3 hours because of yet another delay. We had some Chili's for lunch though so that killed a lot of time (they were so slow). When we finally got to Buffalo we were only half an hour late, which is not bad. Our luggage was quick and I pulled off my brand new suitcase (which was super cheap mind you) and it was dented and the material was ripped on the back. G told me to go complain, so I did. They gave me a brand new suitcase which was a tiny bit smaller, but much better quality. I just had to move my stuff to that one so they could keep my old one. Great customer service!

Nice report. Sounds like you had a great time! Had a few of those hungover days in Vegas from time to time, but a good trooper keeps marching on.

    About that Tao place...
just what are those tub-like things with the floating flower petals?
    What function do they serve?
I've always wondered what they are there for.

Ahh yes, that's what I meant. Payout, not odds. Clearly the odds are much worse. lol I just like it because it's cheap ($1 min), it takes a long time to lose your money and it reminds me of the old wheel they got rid of at the casino at home.

Because I'm married and I was there to waste some time and money, not to gamble with a bunch of know it alls. :ssst: I've heard of people winning big progressives on $6, so I figured it couldn't hurt to try. This is Vegas after all.

The tub things with the flower petals are supposed to have practically naked women sitting in them - something like living statues. Hot hot hot living statues.

I really enjoyed your report but this was my very favorite part! Sounds like something that would have happened to me in my younger days, especially finding the key card in a bra after having a meltdown

Sounds like an episode of Sex & the City! But without the Sex... lol.

    Great TR!

I won around $100 after playing for about an hour on that Tesla machine - lots of up & downs. I really used to enjoy the songs DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince used to collaborate on - that's a long time ago. Glad to hear he is still working, he was very funny on that show.
