It looks like the Deuce only goes as far as Mandalay Bay and then it's about a 15-20 min walk after that to the sign?

Is that the closest bus stop?

Also, how would you get TO the sign since it's on a median in the middle of the strip it looks like? I know about the no jaywalking rule ..... is there a traffic light or cross walk around there? Google maps isnt being helpful :(

I think you are correct about the bus stop. It is not a bad walk from Mandalay Bay as I have done it the one time I went to the sign. 10 minute walk maybe.

I did during daylight hours in August/September 2011.

Looking at my pictures there is a stoplight between Mandalay Bay and the sign, but I am unsure of the distance. But it does look like a crosswalk stoplight because it does not look too far from the north end of the fabulous las vegas island. It looks to lead right to it.

I jaywalked across the street as I recall.

Be ready for some very crazy drivers. I remember seeing a driver veer from the far right lane over to the far left lane for the parking lot for the sign. Yes, they veered right through the busy traffic.

I have no idea when the best time is to go to the sign. When I was there, there was a line to stand in for the best picture spot.

Picture from the web below, you can see stoplight in the picture.

I don't remember if there was a light but it's a major tourist attraction so there must be some measures in place. And there was a guy "working" there for tips. Apparently people need to be shown how to stand in front of a sign and pose for pictures. So he can probably help you.

The walk isn't too far from MB, maybe ten minutes or so, can your mom do that? You could always take a break in MB when you get back.

Go into the directions search on the RTC site and put in the Orleans Casino and in the destination box, Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign.
    http://www.rtcsouthernnevada.com/transit/
bottom left corner look for the lines marked "Plan your Trip"

That gives you a clear map of the bus. Takes 16 minutes to get there. It is the 104 and you get off at Las Vegas @ CC Station. That is very clear when you map it from the Orleans.
Now the Orleans is pretty accessible from anywhere along the strip. The 104 won't be a crowded strip bus and it won't stop before your destination. You can ride back to the Orleans or you can stop anywhere else along the route that looks good to you.

It is a 15 minute walk from Mandalay Bay. So why take a bus there when the 104 will take you the whole distance in 16 minutes from the Orleans. Where is your starting point?

Oh ya she was good for 12 hrs at Disney in Feb. If we do it first thing in the morning I think will be our best bet so she's not overly tired to drained to go. I think I'll make it a priority our first full day there before hitting the strip!

Thanks Dewey you're always so informative!!
We would be starting at Excalibur so I figure we'd tram it to Mandalay Bay and then walk from there I guess??

You could if you want the walk.
Or you could walk across to NYNY, take the 201 to the Orleans and hook up with the 104. Cost is $5 round trip *buy a 24 hour residential pass.
But the walking is not so bad and it saves you money and the time waiting for buses.
I'd do the walking, but I thought someone could not walk so much.

It's only about a 5 minute walk from MB.

5 mins from the MB property line, but 15-20 min from the MB front entrance.

As a side note, I walked to the sign from the Monte Carlo with my walking app on and it was 2.1 miles.
