I didn't see any threads on this.

What are some options to get downtown from the Strip (other than a $20-$25 cab ride).

    Thanks

Downside of the bus is that it's slow and crowded at times. The upside is a cheaper ride and you get to see a part of Vegas that you'd normally not get to see and from a safe distance.

If you are near MGM/tropicana/Nyny, you can catch the WAX for a quick ride downtown for $2. Limited schedule, but very quick.

Depending on where you are on the strip, you could take the monorail to Sahara.
From there, a cab downtown will cost you $10. You could also hop on the SDX or Deuce to downtown from Sahara.

Another option would be to walk - I do not recommend this option.

Assuming you don't have a car. the SDX bus works fine.

15-20 minutes on the SDX. I don't think it's that slow. Agreed it can be crowded at times though.

We took the SDX last year but it seems to me it cost about $5 each? I remember thinking we should have gotten a cab when we left downtown. At night there are security guards on the bus and some questionable characters.

One thing that adds to the time for a bus ride is the walk to and waiting for the bus.

Ditto. You can get an all day pass, or multi day pass for half the price of one cab ride. I always stay at the GN but I make a trip to the strip each day during a week Long visit. Since I started taking the bus I've literally saved hundreds of $$$ each trip on cab fare. I prefer the Deuce. Have fun...... :peace:

We hopped on a bus right in front of mgm (this was in summer 2012), and it took us straight to downtown. took roughly 20-25 minutes, and it only cost $2. i thought the bus was called ace or something. but it was definitely part of the las vegas transit system.

SDX or Deuce. A 2 hour ticket is $6, and a 24 hour pass is $8. Don't forget that you'll want to get back where you started from, so the one way will eventually cost you $12. The 24 hour ticket is the way to go. We usually still have enough time left on it to head down the strip in the opposite direction the following morning.

For a scenic route and to check a few things out my plan is to take monorail from MGM to SLS, then take a cab.
