When I was in school, barely old enough to be in Vegas, I played a 50 hand VP machine. I had no idea how much it cost; I just knew that it said 25 cents and that I was supposed to play max bet no matter what to maximize my odds of a big payout. So I hit the max bet button, and saw damn near my entire $100 go by the boards. "Oh, #$&%, I thought I was playing for like $1.25 per hand!" Poor naive stupid me.

I wound up getting dealt three of a kind, holding those cards for all 50 hands, and getting a hand pay. Poor naive stupid me turned into rich naive stupid me! (Well, by the standards of an undergrad, anyway.)

Have you ever made a gambling mistake that wound up panning out in the end?

Having a bad day at the local Indian casino. Put my last 25 in a JoB machine three hand with the multiplier option. Did not realize it was a dollar machine on the back side of a bank of quarter machines p,yes max bet and won 350 off of it. Went back to the tables and ended up about 500 for beating down 475.

I hit a hard 19 once by mistake...took a 2 from the dealer that would have given him a 19 or 20. He ended up with 17 (or 18) instead.
The entire table was laughing at that one.

I tried to unstick a $1 bet button on a slot by hitting it. It triggered a max bet, hit the bonus and won $400. Not nearly as awesome as the first story. Actually, rather boring.

I love slots... so after losing the planned stake, I have gone to the ATM and chased to try to get it back. Had some wild success one morning, and ended up ahead 3.5K -- but that was more the rarity than the reality.

Was at Cosmo playing one of those automated Roulette machines. Threw $20 wanted to play some numbers for $1. I hit my first number split 21/24, and all $20 goes on it. I frantically try to cancel but it was so close to the no more bets call......21 hits.

    Won $340.

Shame on the dealer for not giving you the 'are you sure?' option! Funny it worked out.

Not sure if this one counts - I was on my last day of the trip and was down quite a bit playing mostly boring and conservative (flatbetting in Blackjack, VP, Craps pass, etc.) the entire trip so decided to get a bit reckless and try to 'recover'. When walking past Roulette I quickly jumped in and asked if I could bet the row of 3's in roulette. After a very quick and poor calculation I only threw in $250 to cover the row which is 10/12 numbers. I asked at last second if I could 'slide' the row down since 33 and 36 weren't included and I didn't have time to add more. I only was able to move the 3 to the 33 before they cut me off and sure enough, Plink! The 33 hits for a decent payout. I happily collected my winnings, threw some the dealers way and quickly walked away.

Same thing happened to a friend at Bally's in AC. Still brings a smile to my face - him yelling and swiping as fast as he could and just adding more money until it was all on there. Of course, hit his number and then tried to act nonchalant.

There's been times I hit "bet max" on slot machines, video blackjack and video poker...a few times it really paid off.

That reminds me of a story I heard years ago on one of these boards. Guy who is a newbie puts $1000 down on the pass line to buy chips, and the dealer asks are you sure? He says yes, that's what he wants. 7, Boom! :nworthy:

If I did that, it would have been snake eyes.

I went to the local indian casino to pay bingo with my family one night and knew I had $5 free play. I figured its only $5 so I would do 1 spin on a 5 line $1 machine. I put in my card, typed in my pin and put in a $20. hit max bet and saw my credits go to 5...I then realized it was 5 line $1, but you could bet up to 3 units per line...so $15 a spin.

I ended up hitting the free spin bonus for 12 free spins, retriggered twice, and walked with almost $1000...

    it was a great mistake.

I pulled a semi-Packer. Having just lost $15k at NYNY HL room, I crawled over to the bar to play some $1 CLEO at the bar top multi game machine. Set the machine for 5 lines $5 per push. I am playing slowly and my host comes out to chat. After 20 minutes or so, I need a fix, lean back to hit the repeat bet button, and without looking very well hit the max bet ($80 on this machine). Yep, bonus round. $6200.

My worst mistake that actually panned out...
I was playing the Shoot-To-Win craps machine at GSR in Reno...I was down about $500, so I said EFF IT, and MEANT to put $5 each on the Hop Hard 4 & 10...but I didn't realize that my finger must have touched the $25 chip option, and the timer was at ZERO, so it locked in $25 each on Hop Hard 4 & 10...somebitch' if the hard 10 didn't hit! $750 payday!

In Paris last year, drunk and tired I was playing one of the "carny" games as I like to call them. (UTH). Anyways, I had my last $70 on the table, $10 on trips, ante and blind, and $40 on the hand. I had a mid pocket pair, and I THOUGHT the dealer pulled trips. I walked away from the table in disgust. However, being Vegas, I came back about 20 minutes later. Turns out the trips were on the community board....I had a full house when I walked away!!! After being chastised by every one at the table, the dealer handed me my $160 win that she'd been saving for me! I tipped her $40, and realized it was time to go to bed.

Several times over the years hitting Max Bet instead of Repeat Bet! Sometimes lucky, often not so much! :(
