Someone wants me to make a bet for them in Vegas. I believe it's called a futures bet, but I'm not sure. I want to bet that a specific team will win the Super Bowl.

What is this bet called? Can I make that bet at any sports book or are there only certain places that offer it?

Normally I don't bet for others, but this one sounds fun. I am not a sports bettor, so any advice to make this less difficult & embarassing would be appreciated.

Like you mentioned, the correct term is "Super Bowl Future".

Any sportsbook clerk will understand what that means.

The giant betting board will have heading that says To Win Super Bowl" or "NFL championship" with every team listed having a number to the left of it.

If it is not on the board, there will be a print out on a sheet of paper that can be found at the rack or table with all the other print outs for other wagering.

The professional way to make the wager is to walk up to the clerk and say.

    "$100 for xxxx"

Every sportsbook on the Strip will have it. Always a popular bet

It might be a good idea to shop at various sportsbooks to find the best odds.

Odds can vary a lot on those type of wagers.

    It is worth the time.

For instance I thought about placing a wager on the Rams to win the Super Bowl.

They are 80-1 at one sportsbook and 100-1 at another. Big difference.

Oh yea. If you don't have the time to walk to all the sportsbooks, usually if you call the hotel and ask to speak to the sportsbook,
they can give you the odds.

As a matter of fact, I would ask the friend who is asking you to place the wager to call all the sportsbooks in town and find the best odds and
then pass the information to you.

    It is worth his time.

If a $100 wager is placed 40-1 instead of 30-1, the payout will be $1000 more.

Sorry for spamming your inbox. For some reason I thought you were in LV right now and was not sure you would come back to this thread.

One more thing. When your friend calls the sportsbooks around town, make sure he calls after the Sunday of the week the wager will be placed.
The odds will change after every game.

Thanks for all the help here and in PM. :).

The bet is for my husband. I suggested he call and he just gave me a blank stare. I'm guessing that means he won't call.

I will be in and out of several casinos and will peek in as I can. I can probably find a decent one.

Thanks again for helping me not embarrass myself. :wink2:

If it's NFL futures, what's the bet? Because someone here probably knows which casino has the best line. Of course if you don't get the bet down before this weekend, it will all change anyway.

And almost all NFL futures bets will be 'off' on Sunday.

I won't be placing my bet until at least the 26-27 or maybe as late as 10/30.

If you promise you won't laugh at the terrible bet.....

    It's for the Seahawks.

I know... my husband is a moron. :haha:

Making a horrible NFL futures bet is no crime. I do it every year. Unfortunately, with the Seahawks you'd have gotten really good odds before the season, but it won't be as good now that they are 4-2. God forbid if they beat the niners this weekend -- that will crush your odds. The good news for you is that they'll probably lose.

This is the site I normally use to line shop games in Vegas...unfortunately it doesn't compare futures bets. I thought it would.

At least this tells you what the different books in town are. Check back after this weekend's action and we can tell you what you're looking for regarding odds. Right now you probably want to get 30 to 1 or higher. If you hit your first book and don't get that, try moving on.

You can get 40-1 online right now, but you'll never see that live (but if you do, buy the ticket immediately!)

The other thing to do is to shop your line in the same book. For example, check the odds to win the superbowl and the odds to win the NFC championship. If you're getting only 30-1 to win the SB and you get 18-1 to win the NFC, that's a better bet. Because you could take the money you win on the NFC bet and roll it into the SB. This is especially good with the Seahawks, who would be likely underdogs to most of the AFC teams that might be there, so you could actually get points on your superbowl bet.

You would think this would never happen, but it's more common than you think.
