A little dramatic there Sam! While I respect that you're entitled to your opinion and I don't agree with the fee either, Fremont is NOT "ripped up beyond belief" and "barely passable". This nonsense is really getting a bit tiring.

    Rant over.

Apparently you don't think I'm entitled to my opinion if you're calling it "tired nonsense", but I'll back it up with photographic evidence. That being said, one man's dump is another man's playground. This is what your $5.00 Fremont Street fee is paying for? Party on!

Sam, those pics make me very sad. They have totally ruined the view underneath the canopy. Be there next month and hope the construction fences will be gone!

Yes Sam, there is construction on Fremont. I visited just before you did on your last trip (check out my trip report). So about the construction, we are in agreement. It is not ripped up beyond belief. There are a couple sections.

What I can't figure out is if you are trying to scare others away from Fremont with your descriptions or if you're just tightly wound these days.

In your last 2 photos, you can clearly see walkways set aside on the left hand side for pedestrians. For a man who prides himself on being in great physical shape, surely there is room for you to pass through? Also note in your photos, there is no line of people cueing up trying to feed their way through a narrow passage.

I've just read so many untruths about hellish Fremont construction, holes cut in the canopy, constant abuse by beggers, etc. etc....I finally had to speak up.

I understand you're highly bothered by it so I just wanted to add that I'm not. That's all.

I totally agree. It may not bother some, but has definitely changed my opinion of staying downtown. I'm cancelling my July 4th stay at Fremont Hotel and staying off-strip in the forseeable future. And if I seem tightly-wound on the issue on construction, the answer is "yes", and with very good reason, as explained here:

    How recent are those photos?

When will that zip line construction crap wrap up?

    I'm staying in late August.

The pics are from April and May, many of them taken by me. Supposedly it is to be finished sometime this month. And I have a herd of unicorns in my front yard, too.

The surrounding areas are torn up as well:

So is this how Fremont looks? Cause I paid for 2 days at 4 Queens just because I've never seen the FSE before. Are the monitors still up for the shows? Or are we going to be in a construction zone?I leave today and am now freaking out about staying there.

Don't freak out too much. There is a lot of construction going on now, but the show is running and you won't have a problem with seeing the show.

    Sam,

    Thanks for the pics!

Arriving 7/25 for a downtown stay. I'm one of those people who copes well -- as long as I am prepared.

So, this helps me a lot!

I don't think Sam is exaggerating at all. Downtown is a freaking mess!

I was there last month- it was a mess.

I'll be there again in early July- it will still be a mess.

Even when the work is complete, we'll have to navigate these huge structures- it's ridiculous.

I was just at FSE this weekend and it's fine. The construction area is down at the East end where Neonopolis and Heart Attack Grille are located. That's just one small area of FSE.

Don't buy into the drama, folks.

We were there last month. Yes, there is construction going on, but hardly impassible. Fremont St canopy show was on as normal.

AND NO, there is not an increase in panhandlers!!!:poke:

This does appear to be a bit of an overly dramatic a reaction to construction work. It doesn't look very pretty, but there is always a price for progress. Just chill out and stop worrying about something that is already being done and you can't do anything about. Have an extra beer and kick back and relax.

I guess I must be really apathetic, or my motivations/interests when I'm in Vegas are different than those of others.

I'm there to eat some good food, drink and have fun. I like meeting up with friends from all over the UK, making new friends from wherever they may be when I'm drinking, and to play a little poker too

I can't disagree that the constructions isn't aesthetically appealing, but is it really worth ruining your trip, and getting that bent out of shape over?

Life is too short, essentially you can still do everything you want to do whilst in Vegas (Unless you want to go ziplining:jester:)

I know I won't let some construction affect how much fun I have this summer, but if you tell me their is a liquor ban I may alter my position!

I am another who thinks this is overly dramatic and it does seem to be having the desired effect....getting people worried about their upcoming holidays.

I was also there in April/May and yes there was the construction but it wasn't a big deal and we had a great time over a weekend

there is no progression without construction

I cancelled my downtown stay for last month when I heard of the construction. Last summer we stayed downtown and enjoyed walking back and forth under the canopy but knew it wouldn't be the same this year. We did visit downtown, though, on this trip and found it quick unattractive and "not the same". Maybe next year....
