this is what i do not understand. the house advantage on the pass line + 5 odds is 0.3%. last night, a guy did not play the pass line, but he only made place bets with $25 chips. all the shooters rolled the place numbers, but they would later 7-out. that guy walked away with about $200 profit.

    Its called variance...
Other nights, the shooters will only roll pass line winners then 7-out, and it'll be completely the other way around.
Craps is too much like roulette for me...just pick a number and hope it hits.

If you are frustrated, just play the 6 and 8 for a while. You can swap horses for a long time this way, most of the time.

Of course the difference is that when the point hits, you get paid your true odds, so if you were playing the same amount as him ($25PL + 5x odds) you're going to make between $150-$250 when the point hits. He has to hit 4-9 place bets to win the same amount (assuming he doesn't press).

That's the most frustrating and entertaining things about a craps table. There's always something that's making money on the craps table. Sometimes the hardways are killing it, sometimes it's place bets, sometimes it's repeaters on come bets, sometimes it's the darkside, sometimes it's horn bets. On any given roll it's interesting to see how much everybody actually wins. I've crushed very average rolls on parlayed hardways before, where I hit for 2-3 grand on 10-15 rolls. I've also seen guys who don't win anything on a roll where a guy hits 3-4 points because they're on the wrong bets or throwing money around on center bets that don't hit.

There are times my pass line bets are losing while the guy next to me is cleaning up with all his sucker bets in the middle. And giving me advice since I obviously don't know what I'm doing.

I saw a lady once turn a few $15 field bets into a few hundred in only about 20 minutes. She was only playing the field. It just depends on the luck of the table!

    My NEW CRAPS STRATEGY:

Find a person continuously winning (there is always 1 at the table) and copy them.

I'm not joking, I'm going to try this out.

Of course, the problem with this approach is that by the time you identify the "winner" and copy him, the trend will have shifted. The only thing more frustrating than losing with a consistent approach is losing with a varying, constantly out of sync approach.

Don't get married to Pass or Don't Pass... if the table is stone cold (like the one you described), try the Don't.

Stone cold tables can turn hot on the next roll. The dice don't know that they're cold. That's the problem with chasing trends.

I don't know why all you people just don't ask your pet unicorn what to bet on. Mine always gives me perfect advice.

Maybe for the average person...but I can identify a winner pretty quickly - That's why I didn't have to date a lot to marry my super-hot wife!

I saw one guy playing where all he would bet was $20 on the hard six. He lost some rolls but when he won he would win it all back and more.

This. You'll save yourself a lot of headaches by picking a style you enjoy and then running with it for better or worse. Then you never have to play the woulda shoulda coulda game with yourself.

Stick with the math - pass/don't pass have a house advantage below 1% (with double odds it is 0.6%). Same with come/don't come. Over time that is your best bet. It looks great when someone hits a hardway parlay, but that is very rare.

Choose a basic strategy that you always play with then make "minor" adjustments like hardway or betting the 4/10 based on the flow of the game and shooter.

You can survive a house edge of 9.09% in the short run but if you play much at all you'll get buried.

I know all this, just thought I would throw that in for laughs (as per the thread title).. I go with the lowest house advantage bets. Pass/Odds, place 6/8, same ole same ole. I used to do come bets instead of place bets. Why "give" money to the casino right? It does get boring at times unless you keep winning of course.
