Short-time lurker, first time poster. LOVE this forum, and hope you can answer a few questions, if possible. (*Moved from Downtown thread, bc somebody was too excited about Vegas to think clearly!!! Hint: me!)

Going to Vegas in late September and looking at the Four Seasons, which is connected to Mandalay Bay Casino. We will be getting an M card and betting about 3k total, so my question is, would that be enough for MB comped stays in the future, and would they have a connection with FS? We'd rather stay at FS because of the quiet.

Some Trip Adv reviews state FS is non-smoking. Nowhere on the FS website does it state that. Can anyone confirm if there are smoking rooms available?

Does anyone know if there are redecorated rooms ready - the mgr posted that there would be room renos in 2012

I've read the file on the $20 trick but didn't see anyone who had tried it at the FS. Anyone ever had luck?

Thanks in advance for any assistance - I'll be reading and learning as much LV info as possible! Gracias!

Gambling up to 3k should get you decent offers from Mlife in the future, but I don't think that will apply to FS.

The Four Seasons at Mandalay Bay really isn't all that. IMO The rooms in THE hotel are a much better choice. They are all 2 room suites minimum in THE hotel.

Your future offers will depend on how many tier credits you put on your MLife card. Those future offers will most likely be for free rooms/freeplay at THE hotel or in the Mandalay Bay tower, I have never heard of an offer for the Four Seasons.

We have stayed at regular M-Bay and at TheHotel.

Both were very quiet. Both were fine.

If you stay at either of those, you may even get your CURRENT stay comped off. Depends on what you mean by betting $3k total. Does that mean you have a few hundred that will result in $3k in total bets, or you have $3k that is available to spend, meaning you will bet way more than $3k?

In any event, get an mLife card. Good at all MGM casinos.

My buddy will likely spend 3k on slots and blackjack, and our first task upon arrival (after check in!) is to speed down to the casino and get our Mlife cards. I've also instructed my pal we are only going to gamble at the Mcard casinos - I am not even sure if we will leave the MB casino! My budget is much smaller, less than a third. I'd just be glad to get a free buffet if possible ;)

We are getting a deal from our city to LV for the FS and as it is her first time, she wanted to stay there. Do you think when we check our points they will tell us how much her card has earned? If it is a free stay for next time, can we ask for a tour of the rooms at THEhotel?

Sorry to sound like such a NOOB, I was in Vegas at TI in 2003 and did not do much research, the way I am doing it now. So glad all y'all are so friendly and helpful!

BTW does anyone know how long of a walk it is to Super Liquors - it is supposed to be across the street from MB, but if I remember LV correctly, "across the street" could mean "one mile in 106F heat".

For years Four Seasons was not "comp-able" under MLife. I've heard rumors that this may have changed sometime in 2012. (We are MLife Platinum level and have stayed at all three properties numerous times over the past 15 years with our most recent stays at Four Seasons in March and at THEhotel in June of this year.) We haven't yet tried to use our comps to stay at Four Seasons.

I have never smelled cigarette smoke in any of the hallways at Four Seasons. You may wish to call the FS Concierge to check whether or not they have smoking rooms. The Four Seasons hotel is located on only five floors (35-39) of the Mandalay Bay Tower, compared to THEhotel which occupies its own tower. A Four Seasons room key is required to enter the private elevator lobby from the MB casino floor.

THEhotel is very comfortable, but the level of service doesn't approach that of the Four Seasons. (That is expected considering the difference in rack rates for the two properties.) The basic suites at THEhotel (called "THEsuite") are set up great for roommates, since they have an extra powder room in addition to the bathroom. THEsuites are available with either a King or two Queen beds. Some on this board have reported problems getting a two Queen bed suite, but we haven't experienced that. The next higher level is the "Vsuite", which isn't as good for roommates since is comes with only a King bed and less closet space.

This link has pics/floorplans and virtual tours of the suites at THEhotel: http://www.mandalaybay.com/accommodations/thehotel/thesuite/

The Four Seasons suites have a similar layout as the suites at Mandalay Bay, but the Four Seasons rooms have only a bathroom, no powder room.

Pools: THEhotel guests use the pool complex at Mandalay Bay. The Four Seasons has its own private pool (very quiet with very attentive service) or you can use the Mandalay Bay complex.

I hope you have a great time in Las Vegas!

When you check in at Four Seasons, ask if their car service is available to run you across the street to the liquor store. I think that store is almost directly across the Strip from the Four Seasons driveway.

Just called the FS and they confirmed they are a non-smoking hotel. I am fine with that but travel pal loves the nicotine, so no FS for us. Dang! :( Time to Google the heck out of Mandalay Bay. We can get a flight from Eastern Canada to LV for MB for 3 days, tax, hotel, flight for 702CDN for the Deluxe Room. I don't see THEhotel as one of the choices. Can one get upgraded to there, or is it considered a separate category?

It's her first time to Vegas, she wants five-star and good ol' gambling fun (i.e., free drinks and an ashtray!). Any other suggestions? Thanks Kelly, you are very helpful!

I believe someone on this board requested and received an upgrade to THEhotel. The rate per night may be more than the rate for a deluxe room at MB, but possibly not much difference. Will you be visiting on a weekend or week nights?

THEhotel is a separate hotel with check in and everything. But it's also non-smoking...

Your best bet is probably regular Mandalay then. Which isn't as luxurious as the other 2, but it's still nice.

I'd say the most upgraded you'd probably get is to a view room, or a high floor... I like to check this thread for $20 upgrades.

    http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/travel-discussion/529706/?start=80&query=mandalay%20bay

looks like most people got either a view or a room at THEhotel.

Are you guys stuck on Mandalay? How about another Mlife property, like Aria or Bellagio, those are 5 stars, Mandalay is only 4 actually... Also, I'd get your Mlife card, then check in, so they can give you points for your stay and room charges as well.

Maybe I am easy, or do not get it.

But, me thinks you are putting too much into the whole 4 star/5 star thing. The suites in TheHotel are great. Regular rooms at M-Bay are okay. Their suite floor is much nicer.

All of them have elevators that empty out at the casino level with all the restaurants.

I'm pretty easy going (I'm fine with three star, once I've checked for bugs! ;)) but friend is a smoker who strongly prefers five star. What sounds good about MB: the pool choices, proximity to airport, casino sounds clean, and lots of restaurant choices. I like the idea of getting the Mlife card STAT so thanks for that tip!

My friend is not someone who is keen on sightseeing but is there for the gambling, so as long as we pick one nice casino hotel, I think that's where we'll be staying.

Thanks for telling me THEhotel is non-smoking. We are arriving Wed around 9:30 LV time, and leaving Saturday eight o'clock PM LV time, so hopefully we can get a late check out, or at least store our bags at the front desk. Would there be a possibility of room upgrades because we are leaving Saturday?

We are booking a package through an online travel agency this first time, but hopefully will just be paying for flights next time!

Thank you all for answering my q's, and I am learning so much!

If you have not booked yet, consider booking on your own. If your room is part of a package or paid through any 3rd party, you could gamble a million dollars and they still would not comp it. You might even find a better deal booking rooms separately. Always check he hotel online to see how rates are going for your dates. Not sure if you are 3rd or 4th weekend in Sept. Rates change quite a bit between those weeks.

By the way, if you are staying put, M-Bay is a great place. Large and like a little city.

If your friend is dead-set on a true "five-star" experience and will be disappointed with anything less, I'd recommend the Sky Suites at Aria, Skylofts at MGM, Wynn/Encore tower suites or Mandarin Oriental [though no casino/comps at MO] as the only real five-star options in town.

Frankly IMO, what passes as "five star" in Vegas is really sub-par - particularly when it comes to service - compared to what is considered "five star" practically anywhere else. If they are someone who is accustomed to the true "five star" experience a-la Four Seasons, Ritz-Carlton, Mandarin Oriental, etc. in most other cities, then they will likely be disappointed by anything but the Four Seasons or one of the other choices listed above.

This is not correct!!!!! The Hotel does in fact have smoking rooms. Just go to their website and choose smoking or non-smoking. When I booked I was asked if I wanted a non-smoking room.

We had a non-smoking room last year and it stunk of smoke!!!

I completely agree, Jilly. (Your mention of the Ritz-Carlton made me realize a visit to Kapalua is long overdue :) )

This is not to say that the other high end hotels in Las Vegas are bad - just that they don't approach the level of service at FS, MO, or the others Jilly noted.

Beat me to it, all the lobby area and the hallway between THE and MB are non smoking but smoking rooms are definitely available.

We are going with a package this time because I've checked out the flights and rooms separately, and it works out to about 300 bones more than the package. So, we'll do it this way, this time. I am more than sure she will love LV and we will be back. You can get some amazing flight deals to LV from Ontario.

I admit, my heart sank when I discovered FS was non-smoking. I was pretty excited about the Bulgari toiletries. I have a thing for hotel soap! ;) I'm not kidding - I go through all the Trip Advisor Bathroom photos and try to see what each hotel uses. Good times....

Oh I swear it was non-smoking! Oh well. Maybe it used to be? I've stayed there like 5 times.

Regardless, check out all the 5 stars in Vegas, they are all pretty spectacular, I'd gladly stay in any of them.

KingBB- I'm actually staying in a one-bedroom suite in The Four Seasons this Friday and Saturday night. I got a mLife offer for 2comped nights in a suite, $700 freeplay, $300 F&B and pickup/dropoff at airport. I'm also seeing Five Finger Death Punch, Flo Rida and throwing in the Steel Panther show for good measure!
