    Hello,
I will be going to Vegas in April and want to stay downtown for all 5 nights. I was hoping to get some advice from others on the board as to which hotel you prefer between Four Queens, Fremont and The Cal? Price wise, they are similar but Four Queens is $36 total less than Fremont/The Cal. I know the rooms at all 3 are very standard. Would Four Queens be more generous for future comps/mailers than the Boyd Properties? I am a low roller but I do enjoy my Multi-hand video poker! Thanks in advance for any advice/opinions. P.S. I am leaning towards Four Queens or Fremont because I think I'd like to stay right on Fremont Street.

4Qs' rooms are like a 1990's Motel 6. I doubt I'd stay there again. That being said, the comps are pretty easy to accumulate at the 4Qs. I don't know the rooms at the other hotels you mentioned.

I stayed at Fremont in December. The room was small but clean, the bed and pillow comfortable. I would stay in the room again as i had no issues with it at all.

of the 3 the Cal has a mini fridge in all rooms. Little further from fremont, but not much. just go out exit at 1st and ogden, cross street and go through Binions. Liked Fremont, rooms a little smaller but elevator drop off close to Fremont. Would stay again, no problem except we like the fridge in room at Cal or MSS. Unlike most rooms downtown window opened all the way up and we could watch FSE corner at Binions from room and enjoy the crowd . Haven't been to 4Q,s yet. Trying in April for a few nights. All good inexpensive resort fee free options. Good prime rib specials at Cal and 4Q. Cal connected to MSS which is our home base and all Boyds are connected with their card. Shuttle to Sams by Fremont(anyone can use), full size Showtime bus and plenty of room. Also bus to Harrahs from Sams, if you want to go to strip. Best buffets are at MSS. So many pluses for each property(and minuses). Not the GN but we go to play and gamble and room is not that important as long as it is clean. Oh, also if staying 3 nights or more you can save $10 a night on housekeeping at 4 Q. When checking in, say you don't need housekeeping and you will get $10 off for all nights except 1sty and last. Can grab towels and sundries off maid cart or downstairs if needed. We don't need our sheets changed everynight. We just dump my beer cans in bag outside door.

Four Queens & Fremont have NO resort fees. Love that!

I have only stayed at 4 Queens, but 2 of the draws are great video poker and the fact that by slipping a 20 between your ID and CC card at check-in often gets me an upgrade.

My fremont room. I have been in the most basic 4q room, did not stay but seen it and I liked fremont better.

If you gamble at any Boyd downtown property it counts towards offers of your "home casino" which is defaulted where you first got a card. I say this cause you get three casinos to play at to generate offers so if you do not like one casino you can move but it will not hurt your play.

Offers are generous at fremont imo... I gamble at 4q but yet to earn a free night, though lot less than boyd.

In my opinion, the comps/offers from Boyd (Fremont/Cal/MSS) are better & easier than 4-Queens/Binions. "bconnected" is their program, and you get your monthly offers posted to your on-line account very regularly. You can always log on to see what offers you have for upcoming months. You can even book an offer from that website. Rooms are functional & comfortable, albeit, small for more than 1 person.
I would choose Fremont over 4-Queens.

Seems like forever from now, but the flights are booked, so it counts!

Depends on many factors on which hotel to stay at.

Will you be driving a car? The Cal might be the best place to park at. Fremont has no self parking so you will be tipping the valet every time you park or get your car. Not that much but it adds a few bucks a day, esp if you go in and out a few times a day as like I do. I also don't like the fremont valet because they once scratched my rental while parking it (about a footlong scratch along the side of the car). They took no responsibility and said that they weren't responsible for any damage to the cars while in valet (so I never used the valet after that). the lot at the 4 queens is okay but not as "roomy" and as easy to navigate as the Cal parking lot IMHO.

As others have mentioned, the Cal offers a free fridge in all rooms in addition to a small wall safe (8" x 12" x 4"), something that isn't in all of the rooms at the 4 queens.

as you can see in the pictures above, the bathrooms at the fremont are a little small. their vanity area doesn't hold a lot of stuff, my toothbrush fell in the toilet once since there isn't a lot of space. The bathroom in the west tower at the Cal is far superior to the Fremont and 4q IMHO. In terms of room size, I think the 4 q and the Cal rooms are comparable, the fremont rooms are a little smaller, esp for more than 1 person.

The 4 queens and fremont are very convenient to the FSE and the action so many people like to stay at either. The cal is probably a 3 to 5 minute walk away from the FSE so not very far but some people don't like the walk.

I have stayed at the 4 Queens the last 2 summers. Both times we got the deluxe room which is really the same room as the non deluxe but in the back so you don't hear the noise from Fremont st. They have also offered the choice to not have housekeeping service and instead have a credit of (I think it was ($12 per night) for food or beverage. If you choose to do this you can pick up anything you need from the check in desk (soap, towels, more coffee etc) We have breakfast for next to / or nothing between the coupon book and the housekeeping credit.
We love the location, one of the buses from the strip leaves you across the st from the back entrance to the hotel, as well as being a good location on Fremont st.
I have not tried the $20 trick, but might the next time I go in a few months.

Last summer we saw thru our window lots of renovations going on in the other tower, kept thinking they would add a resort fee once they work was done, but so far no resort fee.

From the above pics the room does look nicer at the Cal than the ones we have had.

I am sure you will be fine with either of the hotels, just keep in mind that the standard rooms get the music from the bands on Fremont st.

Thank you everyone for all your great input and pics. I will probably end up going with Fremont or Four Queens.

I gamble roughly even amounts at MSS and 4Q. I can tell you that the comps used to better at Boyd properties but that has changed. You can get a free room at either place at a pretty low gambling level. 4Q changed their comp system to accrue at .625% of action. Using JOB as a baseline, for every $1,000 coin in, you earn $6.25 in comps AND $3.125 cash back at 4Q vs. $1.67 in comps OR $1.0 cash back at Boyd properties. The other big difference is free play. I capped out at $75 per month at Boyd (which is now 0 for some unknown reason) and my standard at 4Q is $200 every two months. Boyd has tiered cards but the comp accrual is capped at 3x norm and the top tier is tough to achieve for a visitor.

Another point of reference, I have targeted coin in of $10k per day at Boyd and $8k per day at 4Q. That target at downtown Boyd properties will be going down until they restore the previous comp levels. Outside downtown, Sam's Town (also Boyd) has fantastic comps. MSS rooms are nicer than 4Q and I'm assuming Fremont is as well. I prefer good value vs. slightly nicer room for the few hours I sleep.

Any update on renovations? I might be moving my trip to the beginning of April and considering on 4Q or Freemont. Low roller...
