The current issue of Arizona Highways has an article on what to see/do at the South Rim if you only have four hours there, which apparently is the average length of visit. If you can't find a hard copy near you -- or access to the web edition -- I'd suspect it will show up in the digital archive at some time.

It's a shame that some people travel great distances and only have 4 hrs. We've been there twice and usually do at least double that. Nice to be able to rest up ,have lunch and not have to rush.

I remember years ago on a road trip we spent maybe 30 min there, we looked over the edge and said "yup, sure is big", we'd been traveling all through Co and utah and had seen enough canyons and red rocks.

I'm not exactly a fan of the roll-down-the-window, snap-a-photo brand of kick-the-tires travel, but sometimes that's all people give themselves.
