Have trip to Vegas tentatively planned for the end of November and have been running the numbers to extract maximum value. Noticed that flight and room packages are cheaper than the flights alone on the same damn plane. The difference is $150 per person which is substantial when 4 people are travelling. The hotels are Strat and Circus which I have no interest in staying in. My cousin and I are both fully comped at Ballys and partially at PH so we want to stay there.

Is there a penalty of any sort for cancelling the room or simply not showing up? Would hate to see resort fees or something else show up on the credit card even though you never entered the property.

    Has anyone done this?

I've never tried it...but have thought about it (when - and it isnt always the case - that the package yields a cheaper price).

I would assume that you would get charged 1st night room tax and resort fee at least (as a no-show) and as those probably are not in the package price.

Quite honestly, I'd e-mail the travel company (so that I had something in witting) and ask the question.

Another thing to consider: Reserve the package deal, but also reserve your comp at Bally's/PH. Then check in at Strat or CC, collect the coupons that inevitably come with check in, then go check in at Bally's, and stay there? The only people who know you didn't stay in the room are the housekeeping staff. I've stayed at MGM when my cousin got me a free room, but I also made a reservation at Bally's for two nights during my trip. I checked in, collected the free play, and never went back to the room. Checkout was done online.

So you get to stay where you want (comped), get the cheaper overall flight, have an excuse to go hang out somewhere you usually don't go, and have an emergency place to crash. All it takes is a quick trip to check in; I'd say the time it takes to do that and come back to PH is worth saving $150/per, right?

Is there a number or something to call to check if resort fees and such are included in the price quoted? If they are then go for it, just have to take a bit of time to go check in there.

Have done this myself. Now, our package included show tickets so we did check in at CC but never even went to the room.
I'm not sure if you didn't check in if they would cancel your return flight...I'd just check in to be sure. (you could call & ask...)
Depends how many nights...and if you are multiplying it by 2/room...you are saving $300/couple, that is significant.
You will get charged resort fee/nt (CC $17/Strat $18)--you will also have to pay this at Ballys/Ph (about $28/nt)

I am doing the flight/hotel package deal on a trip to San Juan in November (any casino play in that hotel won't save me any dollars}. However, the price includes all taxes and resort fees and I can play at the next hotel over without feeling bad. That price is almost as low as the flights and includes 3 nights at a hotel where the internet rate is like $250 a night.
