    Trips to Las Vegas:

    My Trip Report

There were just so many good things about this trip, I had to write a TR to document it all!!! And to inform others, of course.

First of all, it was my 6th trip to Las Vegas, however, I have not been in 10 years. It was my partners first time. Many things have changed in ten years!!! Something about sleeping in a pyramid peaked my partners curiosity, so I agreed to stay at the Luxor-I was just excited to be returning, and would stay anywhere, frankly.

The Flight: We drove to the Detroit Airport the night before from southwestern Ontario and did a sleep- park- fly deal at Fairfield Inn and Suites. Very convenient, and cost effective! Ended up purchasing the package through the hotel website as the cost came down to coupon price that we could have printed on the Qwikpark site-$99. We flew with SpiritAir to save money, and saved so much that we upgraded to the big comfy seats at the front of the plane. Those seats are worth every penny. They were very comfortable and more private than the 3 seaters that are cramped together. I did my research and knew that I had to pack no more than 40 pounds in my luggage (it amazes me how many people are caught off guard by this, it is clearly stated on their website). I saw so many people having to pay a lot of money at the gate the day of to bring on carry ons, or overweight luggage. Flight was ontime, leaving Detroit at 7:30a.m.

Day One-Strip, Heat, Strip: We arrived at 9:00 a.m. and walked outside to get into our prepaid Showtime shuttle. There were 3 shuttles waiting, so we found the one going to Luxor, boarded, and within minutes were on our way. We stopped to let folks off at MGM and NYNY first, then we were at our hotel. We dropped our bags off at the concierge and went and picked up our Mlife cards (they still had me on file after all these years!) We were feeling a little overwhelmed and hungry. It was so early, we just went to the food court, big mistake!! Overpriced piece of pizza and beer to bring the blood sugar up to take on Vegas. Oh well! Now that I know where everything is, I would have gone to at least 3 other places to eat.

We then took to the streets, with every intention of going to the store to get water and munchies for the room (4 days later, never did happen!). It was so hot, that we just kept on walking because we did not want to walk back to our hotel just yet, only to come outside again. We found ourselves walking to NYNY and climbed up the broken escalator (if we would have turned around, we would have seen the working one behind us, I later discovered). We bought some $1 water on the overpass, and headed inside for some relief from the heat. I always remembered Vegas having dry heat, but this wasn’t the driest. I definitely was sweating, and here I was bragging to people that I have never actually sweat in Vegas before!!

I had a $25 Nine Fine Irishmen pub reward to claim from their mLife desk, so went and claimed that first. Then proceeded to play the slots, we managed to find the ones that were sensitive and broke easily. I came to know the service people by name. But we came out ahead, and enjoyed a few beers. We headed back to the Luxor via Excalibur to check in to our room.

We checked in to our pyramid room (that was another thing the other half wanted, a pyramid room) it was very clean, and comfortable, our room overlooked the tower. There wasn’t a safe in the room, so I ended up carrying my passport and money the whole trip, without incident. Upon check in I chickened out with the $20 trick....it was so busy. We unpacked, and headed down to the casino for some slot action.

After some more small wins, we grabbed some sandwiches at the deli and turned in for the night, after a long day, with plans of a pool visit in the morning. Good thing we’re flexible and don’t mind changes to our agenda, because that never did happen!

The heat definitely changes how the trip carries out. Much less walking outside, and more planning the strip adventures to avoid outside. One step on the sidewalk and the bottoms of your shoes become gummy. So happy to have brought good sandals, however, I did need to change shoes daily. The heat was intense!!! If we opened our mouth to breathe, our tongues dried instantly.

    More to come...

Day 2-Sharks, Heat, Tram, and Strip

    Day 3-Pinball, Downtown,

    Day 4-Cirque, Strip
