I just got home tonight and had a great stay at the Flamingo. I had a comped FAB deluxe room and used the $20 trick to score a mini suite on the 5th floor. We arrived around noon and there were only about 5 people in line and the TR line was moving very slowly so we waited about 10 min in the regular line. The room was very nice over all. The bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious. The bathroom was very small for a suite though.

We had some friends who stayed in a FAB deluxe with strip view and I was glad we got the upgrade. The FAB room was very nice and did look new, but it was tiny compared to the minisuite. Also, even though they were on the 22nd floor, the music from Pure across the street did keep them up at night.

The property itself is not nearly as bad as people have let on. Yes, it is an old property but the vibe is very fresh and young and it was packed every night. The rooms were clean unless you are a serious nitpicker. I would stay there again.

Also, the linq construction was an issue when heading north on the street, but it was manageable. It is a zoo getting into IP and the walkway out front was flooded ankle deep our first day there. It was fine after that though.

I'm staying at IP in a couple of months. I will only be in IP to and from my room. Would i be correct in assuming that when exiting and entering IP, the best way is going north on the Strip till the walkway by CP then walking back south towards Bally's via Bellagio? In other words, if i leave IP, it's best to avoid the construction on the Strip by going back and forth on the CP side?

Any pics of the mini suite? I am big on booking suites/or mini suites. Is there a sofa? Is there a fridge? Did the bathroom have a tub and shower? ....I have seen mini suites at other properties that should not have been named that, hence all the questions. I have yet to find anyone who had a GO mini that had a tub...lol. What side of the building were you on? Haven't heard anything about the FAB suites so had to ask.

Leather sofa, 2 comfy chairs, flat TV on the wall, desk with mirror (for makeup is how the wife used it), we got a fridge brought up for free, the bathroom sucked. It was TINY. Just a tub/shower combo. We face the pool toward the back of the hotel.

Can someone explain the $20 trick? Is it basically bribing the front desk?

I really just want a view of the strip.

You can do the $20 trick, but Flamingo shouldn't make it too hard for you to upgrade to strip view either.

So you tip them $20, they upgrade your room, and you still pay the original price?

Yes, and if they can't upgrade you they give the money back.

They do consider strip view or high floor to be an "upgrade" though.

If you are concerned about avoiding all the construction, you can take the walkway between IP and Harrah's back by the monorail and then cross over. It really wasn't that bad. The front area where Rokbar and the valet used to be is now built into a temporary walkway area that weaves you into the casino. It is bland and nothing to look at, but will get you inside. The issue was out on the sidewalk where the water was flooded ankle deep because of the rain on Wednesday.

There is no way to exit from the front of IP and completely avoid the construction. You can go out through Harrah's though if you are up to that much extra walking. Or you could hop on the monorail and take it down to Flamingo or MGM.

OK, thanks. My main concern was walking to Bally's/Paris. It appears that walking from IP towards the south won't be much of a problem. Inconvenient, but manageable.

Their view was nice, but keep in mind that almost every room with a "view" is covered by one of the 2 large ads for donnie & marie or some other Dbag, and it will be like looking out of a thick window screen. I didn't like it personally, but I'm usually picky when it comes to view.

Thanks for the pics! If I am not in a Ballys/Bills/Bellagio view GO room....I prefer the courtyard pool view. I tend to wake very early and like to watch the sunrise over the mountains. After many years and many trips at many different hotels, I like the mountain views the best. Many properties strip view rooms are noisy from the sirens on the strip at night. Side view at Flamingo that I mentioned being the exception.

Good to hear! I'm looking at Flamingo for Christmas, I'm worried if my parents will be ok with it or not.

Anymore I will only take a south facing view or courtyard view. Two times with a direct strip view have been too much for me. Room of course was awesome as usual (Go), but the noise from the nightclub made it difficult for me to sleep. I can block out traffic, etc unless the sirens are continual but the club booming & music just wreaks havoc with my sleeping.

The garden views have been very quiet & actually a relaxing view with the greenery. And if it's morning & construction wakes me up - fine - it's morning (and normally things will not wake me OUT of a sleep). But next Flamingo stay I will give up my view room if they can't face me south.

I really enjoyed the courtyard/mountain views too. Bonus: I got to watch a threesome happen in a room across the way one night.
