So Mgm is giving me a total price of $479(including resort fees) for 4 days in July thurs-monday vs Flamingo for $369(fees included).. I hear Mgm is the better hotel but flamingo better location.. Should I upgrade the flamingo with $20 dollar trick or book the Mgm? Just want the best time for some 30 year old guys since this is our first Vegas trip... Will be splitting the total cost by 3 guys

    Thanks for the help

I assume the Flamingo rate is for a regular Fab room? If so MGM is going to be the better hotel option at those rates.

EDIT: Just re-read and saw this is your first trip to Vegas. I would go Flamingo without even looking into it any further. I would book the GO room for the extra $20/day or whatever it may be. The room is just better. For 3 guys, the pinks and frosted glass sliding bathroom door may be strange but the room is fresher - no fake wood floor like the Fab, big bathroom with stand up shower, TV in the bathroom with overhead speaker to put on ESPN while on the toilet or showering.

You will have fun at the pool in the afternoon hours and the location cannot be beat for the first trip.

I hear Mgm location and size can be a pain.. Wanted to hit Wet Republic one day.. But everyone tells me Flamingo can't be beat for location(less need for taxi).. Don't mind the rowdy pool.. Guess we can book flamingo and just take a ride up to Wet republic one of the days.. Does the $20 trick normally work at flamingo? I was quoted for a fab room

I have been hearing that Encore Beach Club is actually a little better than Wet Republic so I would consider that as an option also.

$20 trick at Flamingo seems to be hit or miss, but I wouldn't expect an upgrade from Fab to Go - more likely an upgrade to a strip view.

The properties that surround Flamingo are definitely where the action is. To the left of you when you walk out is Planet Hollywood/Cosmo/Bellagio/Ballys/Paris and to the right of you is Quad/Harrah's/Casino Royale

Across the street is Caesars and Mirage.

If you stay at MGM you will likely be frequenting that/New York, New York/Monte Carlo/Excal/Luxor/Mandalay.

I personally think those properties dont compare to the extra action you get center strip. Plus you are close to the Wynn/Encore properties for the superior nightclubs if you do want to do clubs.

People may stand by Hakkasan at MGM or Marquee but I still dont think anything beats the amount of real estate XS offers you, plus you have Surrender and Tryst.

It's really day and night... just be prepared for that, I can't with a good conscious tell you Flamingo is nice. It's a huge step down. LOL and the rooms are PINK!! I'm sure a bunch of guys would love that haha. I'd only recommend it if it's dirt cheap. The Flamingo location is pretty good, you get good access to Caesars... but also all the construction over that way is a bit of a pain.

MGM the rooms are wonderful, but it's a huge property which on it's own causes problems. It's a lot to navigate. But they have a lot of amenities and good restaurants, and yea Hakkasan...

I saw Peepshow with Holly and really disliked it, it was stupid. But I'm a girl so.. haha maybe my opinion is invalid. But, nursery rhymes with naked chicks, it was just weird.

Flamingo is nowhere near Wynn, that's a pretty substantial walk... especially in the summer.

For me it would be MGM for sure. Waaaaaay Nicer rooms, better restaurants and bars, I prefer the MGM pool, nicer casino and I like the location on the four corners.

The MGM queen room he would have to book is shades of pink and red, a little more subtle than Flamingo GO but for the location, the party pool (where I dont have to pay Wet Republic cover to sit on a slab of concrete), and for the first time I would still go Flamingo.

I meant that Flamingo is closer than MGM would be to the Wynn-core properties if they wanted to do some clubbing. Hakkasan has been throwing around $70+ general admission on Saturdays which is robbery. It is a hike, but definitely do-able at night to and from Flamingo.

Flamingo has a nice pool. No kids in the main pool. Nice pool and a crowd that is more your age. Next door there is a outside bar called Harrah's Carnival Court, flair bartenders (the kind that flip bottles and glasses around). it also has a stage where they have daily bands. Only outdoor bar on the strip. A lot of fun. Centrally located.

Only u can answer that question. I would personally pick mgm especially since i think mgm is pretty nice compared to Flamingo which i consider a dump.

The location dont have to be bad at all, it all depends on what u are planning on doin while in Vegas. If you are goin to hit up wet rupublic as u say and considering that mgm just opened up one of the hottest nightclubs in town i would think the location is pretty good. Also for a couple of 30 year olds it would only be a 10 minute walk to PH or Cosmo.

Since it's a firs trip. I'll go with Flamingo. The next trip you can go with MGM.

All depends on what you want your first time experience to focus around. If its the room and ammeneties (which you may not be in often), MGM. If its the pool and friendly/fun people, Flamingo is pretty good. You can always travel to the other hotels if you are looking for the dayclub scene.

The 20.00 tip worked for me last year at Flamingo. If you are with three guys, leave the other two away from the check in counter and go up there solo. Be prepared with your twenty folded in a way that its slightly visable between your ID and credit card. Politely ask "Do you have any complementary upgrades available?" and they will do what they can. Being a first timer, dont tell them its your first time.

    MGM, no question.

In comparison, Flamingo is a dump. The location is good, but everything else can't compete with MGM.

The MGM has way better rooms than the Flamingo and the pools are about even. I would do MGM for that price. I am actually splitting my trip at the end of the month between said properties. Starting at MGM and then moving to Flamingo because the rest of the crew is there and at Bally's.

As for the $20 tip to get an upgraded room...you do not have to use some inconspicuous, secretive type of credit card/DRL package. I think that notion is ridiculous. Flat out tell them I will give you $20 if you can upgrade my room. $50 if you can do a suite. Just like that. Macker and I do it every time we check in. They will always tell you if they can or cannot but this way you are not out money on some kind of "faux" upgrade.

    Agree with this!!
Rooms at the MGM are brand new.Rooms at Flamingo are old and housekeeping is not the best there.
Quality of the hotel is not comparable.Plus you can get to center strip on the monorail station at the MGM.

MGM appears to be the better hotel, is it possible to opt out of their incidental charges?

If you mean resort fees, the answer is no unless your room is comped.

But the CET properties have resort fees now as well, so resort fees are less relevant when comparing hotels.

Not resort fees as I realize that's a mandatory fee.. I'm referring to When the hotel charges you like 150 a night for incidental charges?

I don't think so. That's just standard practice of checking into a hotel...
