    My Trip Report

Just wanted to say sorry this has taken so long. We flew out of Portland, Or. on the 6:55am flight, while we were waiting to board they announced that there were still some first class seats available for $50 upgrade. I looked at the hubby and he said let's do it, so we paid for the upgrade. It was totally worth the cost. I never want to fly any other way. We land in Vegas a few minutes early. Since we decided to pack in carry on only there was no waiting for our luggage, so off to the taxi line we go. The driver was great and actually called dispatch to check traffic on Flamingo, because there have been lane closures due to construction on Flamingo. Check in try the $20 trick (didn't work) and were not even offered an upgrade at that time. Was told to come back at noon and wait in the key line. Left our bags with the bell desk and go to the nearest bar for a drink.

It had been 11 years since our last visit to Vegas there were so many things that had changed. We decided that it was time to hit the strip, so we headed towards The Quad and Harrah's, didn't gamble until we hit the Mirage. By the time we got there it was time for another adult beverage, so we stopped at a bar there and finally sat down to play some video poker for a while. The bartender called someone from the m-life desk to get us set up for our players cards. We didn't have any big hits so we decided to go see Wynn and Encore since they were not even built the last time we were there. Stopped at TI to get another drink, and got a skull mug filled with a margarita. Walked thru both Wynn and Encore but didn't play at all. It was getting close to noon so we decided to head back to the Flamingo. I have to say I usually don't drink, but when I do I usually can hold my liquor pretty well, but by the time we made it back to the hotel I was feeling pretty good. The line at the for the keys was long and didn't move very fast. When we finally get to the desk to get our keys, we decided to ask again for an upgrade, and the clerk said there were upgrades available for $50 a night fee. We decided to pay the fee to up grade to a GO room. They put us on the 24 floor with a view of the Bellagio fountains. It was worth the upgrade. Called the bell desk for our bags and they were there in about 15 minutes. We chilled out in the room for a while, by then the hubby was hungry and wanted food now. He didn't want to wait at a restaurant, and wanted to just hit the buffet. We went to the Flamingo buffet, it was expensive and horrible!!!! It was 3:00 on Sunday and we got charged "brunch" prices, it was $55 for 2 people, the food was not good and the selection sucked. After that we went to the pool. The GO pool was GREAT, found 2 chairs together, but it was hot so we went right into the pool. I decided not to have another drink at this point so just stuck with water. We were there for a couple of hours. Went back to the room to get ready for our first night in town. We just kind of wandered around the first night, and didn't gamble much, ended up going to bed about 1am.

    More to come...

Can't wait for more. 11 year absence is going to be a shocker for you. Totally agree with the buffet comment...they have gotten expensive and the food stinks more every time we go.

Sorry to hear that no upgrades were given Carrie & Dave for our trip was the exact dates we had and we also stayed at the Flamingo. Now I honestly believe its all in who you get for your check in clerk. We tried to checked in Sunday around 11 am and also did the $20 trick for an upgrade. Worked like a charm for the Go room on the 27 floor I believe. We couldn't get the room till 2 pm so we went & gambled till 2. Can't wait to hear your next installment.

11 years is a long time.....you were probably busy seeing everything new or changed since your last trip. Looking forward to hearing more about it.

I could be wrong b/c i've never stayed in a "Go", but I think the Flamingo front desk may have hosed you on that upgrade. Also the one time I stayed there, I didn't find them friendly at all, and the lines are generally horrendous. And as for CET buffets, Flamingo and Quad are inedible from what I have read. Harrah's is questionable. My favorites are Rio and PHo; I haven't tried Bacchanal though.

    Thanks for sharing though!

I have to say that because it had been so long since we had been to Vegas we did a lot of walking so we could see all the changes. The one down fall is we didn't stay anywhere for long.

The next day was my birthday, so we decided to start it off with the champagne brunch at the MGM thanks to MyVegas. The food was amazing!!! We walked around and played a little at the MGM. We are not big gamblers, but do play a little. When we left we walked thru the Tropicana, this is one of the places we have stayed in the past. We liked the changes they have made. Then we went over to Excalibur to catch the tram to Luxor (the hubby really wanted to go there for some reason). This is the only place that gave us a hard time getting a drink at the bar, without betting max, so we didn't stay there for long. Walked back thru the Excalibur, to NYNY. One of the main things we found at NYNY is the bar by Coyote Ugly had a great selection of microbrews. Being from Oregon, and having many breweries close to our house my husband is used to having a great selection of IPA's, and the bar there actually some beers from Deschutes Brewery so I had a happy husband. From there we crossed to M&M world and that side of the strip. We went in and out of some of the stores, until we reached the Harley Davidson Cafe, we ended up stopping there for a drink. I can't remember what I had, but I do remember that it was good. Then we went to PH, I love this casino, I played may different machines and ended up about $60. We walked thru Paris and Bally's on our way back to our room. The moving walkways at Bally's were not working the whole time we were there. Ended up going back to the pool for the afternoon. I know we went back out, but after having a few drinks at the pool I don't remember what we did.

I remembered what we did the night of my birthday!!! I am so proud of myself. We went to TI to watch the "new" Siren show and then went downtown from there. We had dinner at the Golden Nugget café, saw the shark tank, that was really cool. Then watched one light show. I don't know if it was worth the cab fair...to and from was around $50 including tips.

The next day was the Hubby's birthday.

We skipped breakfast, but ate some fruit in the room before heading out for the day. We went to the Bellagio buffet for lunch, thanks MyVegas. It was amazing!!! I am so glad we found out about MyVegas before the trip, I just wish I would have had some more time to play before we left for the trip. Today we decided to stay close to the Flamingo because I had blisters on both feet and it hurt to walk. We did some shopping, played a little and hung out at the pool during the day. I stayed away from the drinks and just stuck to water at the pool this time. We went to Toby Keith's Bar and Grill for lunch. I had an amazing drink there it was served in a Mason jar and was so good. We decided instead of having lunch we just had some appetizers. Before we left home I had purchased a group on for "The Rat Pack is Back at the Rio". Since the husband is a big Rat Pack fan we decided to use it on his birthday that night. We had dinner at the All American Bar and Grill then went to wait in line. The show was really fun, we got upgraded to premium seats, the drinks were expensive $16 for a beer and a soda. After the show we went to Caesar's Palace to look around, I don't know if it was because we were exhausted or what, but I wasn't impressed. We ended up walking back to the room to regroup for the night. As soon as we sat down in our room it was over!!! We watched the fountains from our room for a while and fell asleep.
