Staying at the Flamingo July 9-12. I am hearing all kinds of scary stories about the elevators getting stuck and not working. My buddies and I are thinking about trying a different hotel because of some of the stories. We have stayed here in the past and the elevators seemed old but never stopped on us or got us stuck for an hour or so like I have heard.

So should we be worried? Maybe try and request something on the lower floors? lol:beer:

IOr make sure you always have a beer in hand in case you do get stuck... one to drink then "refill" if it takes too long for them to get you all out.

I wouldn't worry so much about their elevators. An elevator can have problems at any hotel at anytime. It's how the hotel handles it afterwards that should be the real question.

If you all like the Flamingo and the price is something you are willing to pay, I wouldn't let any third party horror stories keep me from staying. If that was the case, I'd never step foot in a Mirage elevator as I know 2 board members who've had issues with elevators there :confused2:

I've stayed there over 30 times and never had a problem. What Most people don't realize is that the Flamingo is a big "L" and that you can actually get to your room from any of the elevators. Sure, certain banks of elevators will be closer to your room than others, but even if you take the wrong elevator you can get to your room. Yes, it can be a long walk, but it's actually easier maneuvering through the halls than the casino itself as there are no people or machines to get in your way.

If you are in the "Go" rooms, take the bank of elevators by the Lobby or by the promenade. If you are not, take the elevators by the Zoo/Garden or the lobby.

I'd be more worried about getting a room far away from the elevator than getting stuck with one. My god, last time I stayed there it was a good 10 minute walk from my room to the elevator and that was when I was sober and fully functional. After two days, my key card scanner's battery died so they had to move me rooms. I didn't mind.

This cracks me up........we were making jokes about the elevators when we were there in February. Vertical rattle buckets, we actually had one off the promenade that had the service panel below the floor buttons that had been taped on with scotch tape. That obviously didn't work but it was that way for the four days we were there. We never had any problems, just thought they were rickety. But hey.....they are ten times as nice as the garage elevators :):):)

Wow, you guys are babies. Scared of a little bump in the night? What happens if some fine young babes from the pool get on board? You gonna cry if all breaks loose? Be a man, be a boss man, take control of the situation, this is Bugsy Siegal's place after all. Then, after you've comforted and rescued everyone, exchange room numbers just to see if they're still OK.........LOL.

Stayed there last year. Spa Tower elevators were just fine, but I seem to recall some sort of horrible screeching noise one time when the doors closed. Eh...we survived.

I just got back from the Flamingo last week and the elevators were a bit of an adventure. I've stayed there probably 10 times over the past couple of years but the elevators were stopping and you'd have to step up or down a foot to the floor to get out. The ones by the front desk took forever to come most of the time. I'd say at least 10 minutes, seemed like there was only 3 or 4 of them working at all.

It seemed like they were "renovating" the elevators and I hear they are replacing them soon or something. I get rooms at the Flamingo free and I like the pool, casino and location so I'd still stay there regardless of the elevators.

I talked to my host this past weekend and he works out of the Flamingo. He told me that the elevators are being replaced this summer. Most will be happy to see that happen.

Stayed at the Flamingo recently. One thing I LIKE at the Flamingo is that elevators are usually prompt.

The Habitat elevators are getting a bit old and creaky and I'm not surprised they are replacing them. They seem to work, however, and you never wait even a minute or so for a down one.

Now once I was stuck in an elevator with 6 total strangers at the Sahara. It took about an hour to get us out, as the local maintenance people could not get it going and they had to phone the elevator company emergency crew. They cranked us up to the next floor and they comped us each a night. LOL, they would call "are you still there?" on the squawk box every few minutes, as if we had someplace to go.

LOL you are right we just need to lock it up. I bet they are no worse than when we have stayed there before, just people staying there for the first time freak out a bit.

    Thanks everyone!

You need to read my TR! I just returned from the Flamingo last week, I've stayed there 20+ nights per year for the last 5 years and the elevators have been a challenge, but so much worse this trip compared to my Christmas trip. At one point on Saturday, none of the elevators worked in the Spa tower, and only 2 were working in the Lobby tower. Yes, you can walk to your room from any of the tower elevators, but I wouldn't be so casual about this. When over half of the elevators are broken, my usual wait was 20 minutes to squeeze in an elevator, then stop on every floor until I reached 27. Several times it took over half an hour for one to pick me up, then stop on every floor down to the casino.

At one point, I was allowing 45 minutes just to reach the casino level so I wouldn't be late for show/dinner reservations. The Diamond check in room was FULL of people complaining about the elevators and I'm confident the regular area was too. Did it impact my vacation.... you betcha it did. We aren't talking about the elevators being old and creaky, they always have been. We're talking about having virtually no elevators to use period. On a weekend. The decline in the reliability of the elevators between Christmas and Easter was stark. Total shame because this is my favorite place to stay, but I'm clearly not going to deal with this day after day on vacation.

I'm also visiting soon.....and only over a severe fear of lifts in the past 15 years, a fear I had since I was a kid and got stuck!

One small episode this time around and I'll be demanding a low floor....

One thing I found out about a low floor at Flamingo a while back, is if you get the lowest room floor (3? 4?) in the north wing, the place they make up and stage the housekeeping carts is one floor ABOVE you and like clockwork in the morning BANG BANG BANG as it sounds like they roll the carts into a brick wall!

I was there the same weekend. It was crazy. I told my wife the Flamingo is becoming the new IP.
