    My Trip Report

    The players:
My Wife (J), her mother (MIL) and of course, yours truly!

This was our 17th (or so) trip to Vegas and my first trip report. Don't expect any writing mastery, this is going to be mainly factual. This trip was served two purposes, Wife's surprise birthday gift and a CET trip for me to reach Diamond Tier (But don't tell her that).

This trip was heavily planned, and I loved planning it (down to the little details)! I must let you know in advance that both J and MIL are HUGE Andrea Bocelli fans.

Thursday December 5th, 2:30pm Halifax, Nova Scotia: (The surprise)

J is Sr. Management at a company which will remain unnamed. I called J at her work and told her she is off for the day and to come home ASAP (I had previously arranged her vacation time with head office for this trip)

We are both Newfies, and rarely does MIL get a chance to see J on her b-day cause she is a December baby and we travel home each year for XMas so most times we cannot do both.

For this trip I decided to fly MIL to Halifax (from St. John's) and take her to Vegas with us as a surprise to J. (MIL was in the know about the surprise since it's inception in Oct). While J was on the way home from work, I popped out to the airport and picked up MIL.

J arrives at the house and I greet her at the front door, (I have Andrea Bocelli playing on the Sound dock as background music), walk her into the house toward the Happy B-day sign and a lit mini cake with a candle on it on the island to her right...she was super happy and grateful.....then she turned to her left to thank me and saw her mom on the couch, "over the moon" would be good words to use to describe her reaction (they are SUPER close).

We proceed to crack open 3 chilled Peroni's and tell her about all the planning that was involved to get her mother here for her birthday (haha, little did she know what was coming). at 3:15pm I hand her a sealed envelope, which reads something like this (coles notes):

HBD, this is when your 37th birthday celebration begins...Below is the 5 day weather forecast to an unknown location:

    ...Forecast here...

Don't panic, this is going to be awesome. what are you waiting for go upstairs and start packing, we leave for the aiport in 60 mins...Go Go Go!

    xoxox

I had made sure that all of the laundry was done, so basically 60 mins was plenty of time to pack (I had packed mine the previous night and MIL already knew so she was packed also.

We head out to the airport and did the Park-N-Fly...check in was smooth with the Air Canada reps letting me check in J with her passport and hand me boarding passes. On through security without a hitch and off to the lounge.

Whew, made it to the airport lounge and J still has no idea where she is going, this is a huge success so far! I drove 3, 20oz Richards White aboard me like they we going out of style....J and MIL had one each

We had a tight connecting flight in Montreal, and the plane was 20 mins late departing from Halifax, so we were going to have to boot it once we arrived in Montreal. Obviously J knows we are headed to Montreal, but she think that is the final destination (she thinks for a shopping trip with her mudder), we played along of course.

We arrive in Montreal and BOLT for the connections area, the entire time J is saying shouldn't we be heading to baggage claim. The signs started to say "US Connections", now she is like WTF is going on (in a good way).....Then she had an epiphany "We are finally going to NYC", we play along again, until we get to the US customs area where they are not as lenient as AC and I have to hand her OWN boarding pass...."VEGAS, woooohooo, I'm going to Vegas for my birthday".

Once we settle in on the plane and are in the air I give her the 2nd envelope, and kind of itinerary that I put together that kind of goes like this:

Pg 1: By now you know you are on your way to fabulous Las Vegas for your birthday.
    ...Vegas Sign...

Pg 2: Transportation while you are in Vegas will be provided by:
    ...Presidential Limo Logo...

Pg 3: Will it be the beef Wellington or the Filet (don't worry you have until tomorrow night to decide because our reservation is not until 8:30):
    ...Gordon Ramsay Steak Picture...

Pg 4: In case you get bored, I have arranged for some entertainment on Saturday night
    ...Andrea Bocelli Concert picture/details...

    - She absolutely looses it on the plane at this point, "OMG OMG", crying, hugging me and her mom etc, MIL starts crying, its a total shit-show! The flight attendant comes down to see the commotion, they tell her the story and SHE starts crying...Crazy! Random strangers asking what's up etc...good times!

Pg 5: Some funny money for Vegas:
...500USD in hundreds... (she's a low roller so that was plenty for her)

Not a wink to be had on the plane, but the $6 Heineken were going down as smooth as ever (I'm a bit of a caveman when it comes to beer drinking, and I always try to get my daily dose of at least 20 a day while on vacation)....

We were all super excited at this point and made the 5 hour plane ride seem like 10!!!

Next up, Arriving in Vegas baby!!!

Awwwwwww, brilliant surprise and it wasn't even the surprise birthday trip that had me cast a ballot for you as husband of the year, nope.....it was the bit about making sure the laundry was done. We leave for Vegas in the morning and I just finished 3 loads while hubby lounged, grrrrrrrr.

Presidential did not meet expectations this time!

Let me clarify, I'm by no means a "Debbie Downer", but I was a little unimpressed with Presidential Limo service this time, I've used them over 5 times (+ return trips back to airport) without issue, and this time there was no real "issue" just not amazing service (see below)..

So we arrive about 15 mins late, as soon as we touch down and begin to Taxi into the gate I turn on my blackberry and I immediately receive a text message from our driver Alex at Presidential Limo. "I'm waiting at Baggage carousel X for you". I thought this was a bit weird as I know it will be 15 mins or so before we make it to where he is.

We get off the plane and head to the baggage claim and find Alex who was there, our luggage comes out and he takes the largest and we roll the other two bags. (Every other time I took presidential they got a bag cart and carried all of our bags). Alex parked the Limo a good 10 min walk at the VERY end of the terminal where we arrived.

When we arrived at the limo, Alex offered to take a pic of the three of us and then opened the back door, we helped ourselves inside, and Alex went and started the Limo. He then got out, loaded our bags in the trunk, and shut the door where we had entered.

Once we started to roll I had to ask him if there was any champagne (I saw it there, It was basically a friendly reminder for him), and he said, "Yes, help yourself, glasses are there too". Of course, I did....pouring for the ladies first ;)

I was asking several questions regarding how the progress on the LINQ was coming/high roller wheel etc, and he was basically barely able to answer any questions at all, maybe not much of a conversationalist?

Anyway, the stereo was unable to get reception in the back of the LIMO regardless of what station was tuned, so no tunes were to be had. I noticed that we were on the way to the Flamingo via Koval, I wanted to take the ladies up the strip for a few mins, so I asked...Alex reluctantly said yes, but reminded me that we don't have much time.

Turned left onto Flamingo, right onto the strip and then right onto sands...One Block, oh well...the ladies loved it!

Finally arrived at the Flamingo, Alex opened the door for us, retrieved our luggage for us, and I have him a $20 tip, after which he offered his card and said if you need anything call me. He then had remember about the roses and went to the front and handed them to the J and MIL. they were happy as pie, I was totally unimpressed!

This "Ride" used to be called the champagne and rose special (not sure if it still is or not), and my perception was that this was totally an after thought.

Anyway, I hate to bitch, but common Presidential....don't start slipping!!!

    Check-in and kicking off hookers!

Check in was a breeze (I was the only person at the Platinum/Diamond line, so was called up immediately). I had reserved two Go Luxury with View rooms (mine was COMPED and MIL was to cost me a grand total of $300 for the 4 nights). I inquired about an upgrade because it's my wife's birthday and this trip was a surprise etc...after a few clicks, she said she would have no problem upgrading up to a suite, but we were unable to upgrade both rooms. She did assure us that both of our Go Lux with strip view rooms would be close to each other. This seemed more important to J and MIL, so it was a no brainer to decline the free upgrade to the suite (Did I just say that, Doh!)

Headed up to our rooms, and they were on the front of the hotel, on the 15th floor with a perfect view of Caesars and you could see the fountains to the left. We usually stay on the Bills side, with a view of the Paris and the fountains but due to the construction and noise she put us out front! We were happy with the rooms, clean and comfortable!

Headed downstairs to a packed casino and tried my best to loose my entire bankroll on 100 play STP DB within the first few hours, but I was lucky and only ended up down 500 in 2-3 hours or so. J and MIL played a few slots and actually ended up a few bucks and headed to bed around 3:00am (almost 24 hours with no sleep)

Not me.....I decided to get back the 5 hundy I just dropped, via "FREE drinks". Caesars, Cosmos, MGD's, XX I'll have 2-3-4 of each....by 5:30am I was sha sha smashed and down another 5 hundy, but I must have been looking good doing it though, because the last thing I remember was being asked if I was looking for a date by about 6,0000 "Ladies" before heading to the room and crashing....

Woke up about 2 hours later, Jonesn to get back downstairs and get back at er...after all, Lady luck raped me for a quick G last night (2 hours ago)....I grabbed an 18 second shower, told J I had to "go to work" (she knew what I meant) and headed down to that same 100 x Play machine....

The first hour or so was kind of fruitless (except for the lime slices in my Caesars), but just into hour 2 (Still only 300 deep for the morning) I get a decent hit..$702...hmmm come to think of it that's the area code for vegas, how fitting (see attached ticket and drink porn, lol)

    Ticket1.jpg

Up $400 on the morning and only down 600 on the trip so far, but going through a SHIT-LOAD of coin-in!

After about another hour or so of popping between the high limit room (HLR), and driving Caesar's aboard me I have to take it easy, if J comes downstairs and see's me hammered at 11:00am in the morning again, she may just......JOIN ME, and we will never ,make it to GR Steak tonight :)

I head back up to the room to find an letter slipped under the door:

hmmm, I must be a chronic.....

    Food drunk....

So after a morning/early afternoon of driving as much beer and liquor into me as I can without passing out, I decide it's time for me to go upstairs and freshen up with a shower and get ready for some great eats!!!

After shower number two (one for each hour I slept since in Vegas), I headed back downstairs to play a little BJ while J and MIL were getting "Dolled up" for Ramsay's.

Had an OK session at BJ, single deck betting $25/hand and came out around even (maybe down a hundy) . Headed upstairs to collects the ladies, on the way back down I pull out a $5 and place $2 on the 20 and $3 on the 10 on that big carney wheel...don't remember the name....

I knew the 10 was coming (not really) but it as soon as she started the wheel I let everyone know within a 50 meter radius that this spin would be a ten and start celebrating before the wheel even reached 1/2 speed....well you all know what happens here right? Sure as shittin, the 10 hits, lol....$30 never felt so good!!!

We mosey over to the Paris and make our way into the restaurant, damn it was chilly in Vegas last/this week!

This place was simply amazing, was it a bit pricey, sure, but was the service and the food TOP NOTCH, absolutely, I would HIGHLY recommend! (Tangent: I kept calling the guy who kept changing our cutlery and bring water etc Juice...looked almost identical to Juice on SOA!)

For apps we had the English Chowder, Beet Root Salad and the British Ale Onion Soup!

And for mains we had 2 orders of the Roasted Beef Wellington, and a Bone-in New York Strip. For sides we had the Mac and Cheese, Grilled Asparagus and Loaded Baked Potato.

and of course we HAD to order the signature Sticky Toffee Pudding (TO DIE FOR)

We also ordered a bottle of red recommended by the in house sommelier, grand total $400

    Here are some pics:

    Ramsay3.jpg

    Ramsay5.jpg

After that whopper of a meal we waddled our way back to the packed Flamingo, J and MIL played for a little bit and hit the hay, I'm a trooper, stayed up until 2:00am and then crashed hard (FYI: First time I can remember in a long while heading to bed in Vegas before 4:00am)

Next up, Andrea Bocelli concert day!

Nice start. We left Vegas on the 6th, and yes, it was quite chilly (record lows in Vegas!)...brrrr. But not as cold as what we came home to, 12 below! That 28 in Vegas felt tropical to home. Please continue............

    oops.....

I had totally forgot about my little walk and eating at Burgr...ugh, must have had a few drinks too many I guess....

For those who are following, I'm still talking Friday here, just before shower number two I missed about 3 hours worth of Vegas, that when I was writing thought happened on Saturday...but nope, it was Friday, cause we were calling it Ramsay day!

So we leave the Flamingo around lunchtime and head over to Planet Hollywood to try out BurGR. There was a line up as expected, but we just gave our names/phone number and played some slots....I dropped a quick $60on some random POS machine, J - $20 and MIL - $20 each. We get the text saying that they are ready for us minutes later.

Food at BurGR was awesome, we had a Hell’s Kitchen Burger, Euro Burger and a Britannia Burger, with 2 sides: Sweet Potato Fries and a order of Truffle Parmesan Fries. For drinks we were slurping on some unusual fare from the cocktail waitress (We had some liquor filled martini's), and decided to have another, I had a huge glass of "liquor-something, t-minus-shit-faced tini" and the ladies had more modest ones....grand total for all was around $75...definitely worth it!

After lunch the ladies decided to head to the outlet mall for some retail therapy, so they grabbed a cab. I decided to hit up some casino's and take my time getting back to the Flamingo....

First stop, across the street to the Cosmo.
I signed up for the identity card because of the loose a hundred get a hundred in FP promo. Since I knew I wasn't going to spend much time here I head to the high limit slots for some VP. Figured I order an nice "Cosmo in cosmo" drop a ton, head back to identity desk and grab my hundy in FP, piss that away, and be on my way!

I popped in my Benjamin into the closest STP VP machine I could find and started scanning for a cocktail waitress, I must say I love the vibe from the HLS area the chairs were comfortable but the drink service was slow as s**t. I ended up having to flag down a slot attendant who spent about 5 mins looking for the waitress, eventually I got my cosmo at cosmo. The drink was yummy and in a nice martini glass...oh ya, that hundy, I ended up turning it into 3 and started to make my way over to Bellagio. Took the north exit and noticed that the Bond Bar was closed...weird?

Made my was into Bellagio and decided to give mLife a little bit of play, just to let them know I'm in town and to see if I would get any offers from them down the road. I headed toward the BACCARAT BAR and it was FULL...damn is the Bellagio always busy, it was twice as busy as the cosmo! I gave the bartender a nod to let him know that I wanted to play a little VP and he booted some m guy who wasn't playing off a stool (very politely). I sat down, pop in one of my hundies from my profit at cosmo and ordered up a martini of the bartenders choice....He game back with an awesome concoction he called a melon martini. It too was awesome!!! While i was waiting for my drink I hear a loud scream from an older lady in her 60's or 70's 3 seats away...she hit the progressive RF for over 6k. Good for her, it put a huge smile on my face and made Cosmo's hundred painless as i watched the last $5 drown! I tipped the bartender a $5 for being a cool guy and moved on to Caesars!

I was kind of shocked when I went into Caesars to be honest, I didn't get a good vide from the casino at all, the ceilings seemed low, the atmosphere was a little too smokey (I just quit 13 months ago so this was my first time in Vegas without smoking, so I noticed actually how much the casinos reek of smoke), but it don't bother me at all! I find a machine (I think it was Willy Wonka) and decide this would be a great investment. Before even had a insert my "donation" into the machine, a cocktails waitress was there...."Would you like a drink sir"...absolutely, a long island iced tea....woohooo!!!

I'm starting to feel now pain now, after all I'm a beer guy, and I've been drinking basically straight liquor since BurGR. I'm having a hard time remembering what was faster at Caesars; the waitress coming back with the drink, or the $300 disappearing into that cross-eyed willy wonker machine....:grrr:!!!

hahaha, anyway, made my way back to the Flamingo and parked myself in front of the STP poker machine in the HLR and waited for the ladies to return from shopping...ok, ok, i may have played a few hands while i was waiting :rolleyes2:

Grand total for that afternoon -$1000, I think that made me down about 1600 for the trip so far!

Good stuff! But I'm not seeing any VP porn! :( and when you were playing 100 play at Flamingo, how much was that per round? I just remember playing for pennies there cause I'm poor and cheap, meh.

I was switching between .01 ($6.00 hand) and changing Denom to .02 (so $12.00 hand), and in the HL room, playing $1 Triple play STP ($18/hand).

I have some pics, but not many....There will be some ticket porn (a few over 1k in the coming posts)!

    Cheers!

The highs and lows of Las Vegas!!!

Sorry for the delay...my head was not screwed on straight after those parties.....should be all good now!!!

So where was I....ahh yes, Saturday!

Saturday, the day I got raped at the Margaritaville...

I started off at the usual 100 Play STP machine and hit quad 7's, and cached out a $500 ticket pretty early in the morning (Before 7am):

    quad7.jpg

But trust me when I say the rest of the day was downhill after that...I pretty much turned around and dropped that $500 right back into another machine and then decided to play some BJ.

I strolled into Margaritaville, not a sole on any of the tables, so I went up to the 3:2 $15 min table, got 1 hundred in red, played the 15/hand and lost 6 hands in a row, without a push even. So I went to the table next door, 6:5 $25min, cashed 2 hundreds and lost 8 more hands in a row (without a push), is loosing 14 hands in a row some kind of a record? anyway, down $300 within a span of about 3 mins. It took them longer to change my hundreds than it did for me to loose them! I proceeded to take a beating loosing another 7 hundred and had to make a trip to the machine I win on all the time...the ATM.

After exceeding my daily 1k WD limit I had to call the good old Royal Bank and let them bum the limit....To make a long story short I ended up dumping a Grand total of about 3k between BJ and Craps.....

While this was going down the MIL and J were at the mall shopping till they dropped. Although I got pounded, spirits were still high, it's Vegas, and we were seeing Andrea Bocelli that night. We decided to head to the MGM early and make sure we had plenty of time, so we were dressed and ready to go and in a cab by 4:00pm.

We gave MGM a little play (< $100 for me) and ate some appz at pub 1842 (Nacho's were awesome)

Concert was breathtaking and sooo worth EVERY penny. J and her mom LOVED it, and I was super impressed too! and the $8 glasses of red wine went down like water :)

    Bocelli2.jpg

For a change of pace and something different we took the monorail back to the Flamingo. Funny story...monorail was packed, and as it started off some guy stepped on my foot and fell in my lap. I said to him "you are the second guy to make me cry tonight"... (I guess you had to be there to see how emotional the concert was to find it funny), but our entire monorail car cracked up laughing!

After the doing the good deed of treating the ladies to an awesome night, good karma was coming my way...popped in a $20, yes, only a $20 in a machine and pulled out this little bonus:

    Ticket1.jpg

That ticket was soon followed up by (Still hadn't cashed out the first ticket) this one:
