After 20 trips to Vegas my wife and I will be staying downtown at the Plaza for our upcoming trip.
We wanted to see Beautiful-The Carole King Musical and when we noticed that it would be playing at the Smith Center we decided to book a quick weekend trip and stay downtown.

The Plaza offered some of the best rates downtown, plus I really appreciated Gary Vickery, a host at the Plaza, answering questions for us here so we booked a 3 night stay at the Plaza for Fri 9/30, Sat 10/1 and Sun 10/2. the show is Sunday night and then we fly out around noon on Monday.

We arrive around 7pm on Friday and will take a shuttle to the Plaza. I don't usually take the shuttle but since this was our first trip downtown it seemed like a pretty good deal, although Lyft or Uber might have been a better choice. There was no way I was going to take a cab downtown from the airport.

We have not spent a lot of time downtown during our previous trips so this will be a new experience for us. we are planning on taking the bus to the strip on Saturday so we will have a good time both on Fremont Street and the strip.

Since this is our first trip downtown I have been busy reading everything I can find. It is funny but for years I glossed over the downtown topics because it didn't apply to me. Now I am playing catch up!

The resort fee is $20.16 per night ....payable at the hotel.
Plus $100 per stay incidental hold.

Plaza offers airport dropoff for FREE just call to reserve your spot ahead of time.

I would luv to see that musical. when you say shuttle, are you talking about the ones that make many stops at different resorts? for the price, they are ok when it is not too busy. on a Friday night around 7 pm, I would not recommend it. it will take FOREVER to get downtown, unless the shuttle is going straight to downtown without stops on the strip or off strip. I would reconsider using Lyft or Uber. murphy's law I guess, but I have used those shuttles many times, and never once I have I been the first or second stop. enjoy your stay!

Or you could take the WAX bus for $2 per person.

I've always poked fun at the VMB downtown crowd, as being overly "value-conscious" (see I'm being nice) and a bit on the higher-end of the age scale (again nice), but honestly downtown's FUN! In my mind, it's changed for the better over the past several years. It still offers a quality Las Vegas experience in a much more walkable environment, but now has improved room and restaurant products as well. HAVE FUN!!!

Last year I decided to switch to downtown and have not looked back. Great restaurants like Carson Kitchen, Pizza Rock and Andiamo's Steakhouse. A lot of great bars also. I usually stay at Downtown Grand. The rooms are newer and seem more in line with strip rooms. Better gambling and better odds downtown just make the strip less appealing.

If I remember correctly if you book a dinner at Oscar's they will limo you over to the smith center and pick you up when it's over.

I will have to look onto this, thank you. I had planned on using Uber or Lyft to get us to and from the Smith Center but dinner at Oscars and a limo ride to and from the show sounds like a nice date package that might just make up for a stupid thing or two that I have done lately.

Smith Center is a beautiful venue....I looked for something to go to when I am there later next month, but nothing worked out.
Take a walk down to Container Park....seemed like nice shops and some good food.

You can also spend a few hours at the Mob Museum one afternoon. It's very interesting. Roam through the hotel/casinos and look in all those nooks and crannies, never know what you may find!

The Smith Center is worth checking out even if you aren't seeing a performance there. They offer free tours various weekdays which you can book online. We toured it a couple of years ago. Very impressive venue. Every time we've gone to Vegas since we've checked what's playing there. Seems most major events we want to see make it to Seattle before they go to Vegas.

The WAX bus will get you from Binion's to Tropicana for two bucks fast.
