Believe this is my around my 12th time to Vegas since 2000. Going out for the opening weekend of the hoops tournament and am staying at Harrahs for a couple nights and the D over the weekend. I've been reading the board pretty regularly of late and have to say I'm excited to get see how I feel about downtown. My last 2-3 trips, I've made a point to spend 3-4 hours downtown but I haven't committed to staying there until now.

We stayed at the D six months and also visited the Mob Museum.

    Enjoyed both.

Well you already have a taste for downtown so you know what you are in for. Personally, I enjoy the downtown vibe, which is quite different than the

The sports books downtown are not as big, though I would imagine for the opening of the hoops tournament the books will be filled.

    Enjoy your trip

I will be there for the Elite Eight, and I am trying to figure out where I am going to watch the games as well. I am guessing maybe the D, CHicagos Pub, or Trip 7 Brew pub. Maybe the Boarshead bar at MSS. The wife wont be too excited to watch unless the Hoosiers are still playing( I truly hope), so she will have to find something else to do while I am watching!

The D may open their 12th Floor Ballroom for March Madness viewing. I have a mailer with that blurb on it but I can't make those dates. I have to settle for Feb 28-Mar 4 when I plan on scouting that out. I'd like to see them open it for the NFL and will ask about that.

    Hoosier Hysteria....

I'd love to be in Vegas that weekend. Not that IU can't be beat, but I'd certainly bet against them not getting to the Elite 8 short of a significant injury bug. Come to think of it, maybe I'll bet just that this weekend!

    Go IU!

Lets hope you guys are right, I would love to see them still playing that weekend. If they stay healthy and can finish off the B1G conference well they should line up for a 1 seed. THat will go a loooong way into helping them get further through the brackets!

Last couple of trips have been downtown. It reminds me of the Vegas I knew in the 80s. Love the vibe and easy casino hopping. Have fun.

I'd love to stay downtown exclusively, but the casinos are just too close to each other. I've found I gamble more downtown than I do on the strip just due to no 10-15 minute walk between casinos.

I still love it down there though and try to double book a room down there at least 1 night each trip.

I think this is the general consensus among a lot of people who started going to the Vegas in the 80's and 90's. We (buddies ages 38-45) pretty much gamble exclusively downtown, but we like to stay on the strip for the spectacle of it all.

Thanks for the thoughts and recommendations.

Lots of parity this year in college hoops it seems. IU is tough no doubt but no clear cut favorite like the past couple years. Gonna be a wild opening weekend.

I have stayed downtown for the last 3 years and one other time years ago. It seems so friendly and casual, like the Ho, Stardust and some of the other older hotels used to be. Easy to walk from hotel to hotel, lots of things going on, fun to people watch, no porn slappers, good food, and great hotel prices. There have been major improvements each year for the last several years and even with my trade show moving from the LVCC to the Rio, I still enjoy it downtown and bus to the show.

The D is a great choice. If you haven't already checked out the Triple 7 brewery or the buffet at MSS, please make it out. The Buffet has been voted top 5 in all of Vegas multiple times and the microbrew is award winning and better than anywhere else in town IMO. No matter what you like to do, downtown is a blast. I started staying in downtown after Sahara closed and have never looked back; way more fun than the strip.
