So apparently the wifey and I have graduated from junior degens to mid-level degens. We used to get comps for off season days in the summer but Mandalay offered us 2 nights over New Year's and two tickets to the Maroon 5 show. We're pretty excited, we usually only go in the summer for our anniversary trip. This will also be our first time to stay at Mandalay but always enjoyed the atmosphere (the gambling gods were good to us when we played there in August so I guess they want it their money back).

I heard somewhere that the strip casinos, including Mandalay, lock people out of the casino if they venture onto the strip to see the fireworks on NY Eve? Any truth to that? It certainly doesn't seem logical, I thought it was all about keeping them playing.

Any tips for surviving NY Eve on the strip? (We get in the morning of the 30th and leave the morning of the 1st to get back to the kiddo, so I anticipate no sleep on NY Eve)

No tips as I've never been to LV on NYE but I wanted to say - have a great time! Mandalay is one of my favorite casinos. I'm sure you'll have an amazing time. Good luck!

Are you going to the Maroon 5 show on the 30th or on NYE?

I have been to Vegas five times for NY and never had trouble getting into any hotel. I am told they will not lock you out of you are staying there and produce a key card. Again, I never had an issue getting in or out of a casino but I only tried to get in after the fireworks and not during. The closer you get to center strip the more of a mob scene it becomes. Unless you like a mosh pit I might steer clear of the Cosmo-Harrah's corridor.

I've done MBay New Years a couple times, (And Maroon 5 couple years ago), as it's my hotel (Delano) of choice. It's quite amazing to be where ever you are (at the Gala etc.) and about 11:40 people start leaving their seats, leaving the blackjack tables, the craps tables and heading outside. I'm only surmising that MB being at the end of the strip wouldn't be locking their doors, but I can certainly see the mid strip hotels only allowing hotel guests inside. After braving the car/cab free Blvd, little chilly, with gamillions of revelers, a lot of those people gotta go pee.
